Served as a docent at the Lincoln Shrine in Redlands, California for 13 years. Have visited every major Civil War battlefield and many of the minor, granted VIP tour of the Lincoln tomb in Springfield Illinois. They probably were a spiritual protector instead of being an actual protection. My research shows that it was. Most likely, from the Petén region of Guatemala during the Mayan time period, 600AD- 925AD. Compare with"ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS IN THE HOLMUL REGION. PETEN RESULTS OF THE FOURTH SEASON. 2003 Edited by Francisco Estrada-Belli" compare with the River culture. Compare with La Joyanca culture's artifacts) All holes have been bow-drilled. Where they take a small bow with a leather bowstring wrapped around a rod which is tipped with a stone drill bit. They placed a hollowed cupped hole in a rock on top of the rod and then moved the bow back-and-forth to drill the hole. ... moreThe drilled hole was then turned-over and they drilled from the other side forming a 45 degree angle that met in the center of the object. They would cut the seashell out of the fossil seashell with stone knives. Then round them on metates(grinding stones designed to be rough like sandpaper) or specially formulated flat stones designed for grinding seashell implements. They used fossilized seashell when they carved it which made it hard to carve; but made it last thousands of years. The black colored designs and surface show loss with rubbing and tiny chips that's expected with age. This vessel has been kept very well over the centuries and years and will display nicely. 1920s Wooden Box Lock box usually sugar or coffee.
This box 90% original. Has latch but top section is missing including screws. Has such Great ornate handles I find it hard to believe it was used to lock up sugar or coffee. HAS A SWING back lid. LID WORKING PERFECTLY! Truly aged screws. The varnish seems to of peeled off the wood true to the piece is very aged looking. The way I use this lock box is place a 1900 to 1920 quilt spilling out of it. But for the handles alone which are so unique are worth buying it& using them on a period piece! Myself I like keeping it together and use the entire box as a display! The box weighing apx. 5 lbs. 10 1/2 tall 14 in wide& 23 in length. In the 2nd photo it looks like a hole it isn't! This hand operated drill. Is in my opinion a museum quality working Antique Tool! Marvelously made out of Wood, Brass, and Steel it's ingenious ancient design even makes sense as a handy tool for modern Jobs, although not by any means would I think that wise! Since It's Paten It has been 133 years! Quality of Ware is"Slight" in my opinion for an Very Old Tool its in"Good Condition" She measures in at about 15"26" The wood and metal parts are worn down very slightly form the many years, tried to show this through my photos) they have some small nicks and dents, but all in all its in great quality for a working man's tool of such age. Patent was in December 12, 1882 for this particular product, I believe it may be near to the year produced maybe. I purchased these several years ago from the estate of an archaeologist that worked in Mexico in the 50's and 60's. He found these at the ruins of Santa Maria del Oro in Nayarit, Mexico. Unusual LARGE Pre-Colombian NAYARIT 11” Standing MALE Figure
Offered is a fine authentic pre-colombian Nayarit figure of unusual large size. At 11” he is almost twice the average height for this type of figure. He is wearing an elaborate headdress and a wide belt with molded details at the back. Fine original excavated surface retaining most of the original red. Now with extensive natural calcite and manganese deposits from burial. This is from the estate of a local artist who painted in the American southwest and Mexico in the 1930’s. The figure was originally holding something that looks like it might have been a war club that is now missing. Old repair to the neck, and a few scattered chips and losses(see photos) but otherwise fine original condition.
