VINTAGE NORWAY SOLID SILVER SALT & PEPPER VIKING HORNS M AASE / T EFTF BERGEN
This is a lovely decorative pair of 830 Norwegian salt and pepper shakers. The shakers are in the form of Viking Horns and have typical Viking decoration along each side and on the front of the stands which hold the horns upright. They are approx just under 7cm tall and approx 6cm long and in good condition with no holes or splits. They are hallmarked on one the hallmark for Theodore Olsens Eftf and the words Sterling and Norway and on the other the hallmarks are for Magnus Aase 830s the letter N and the number 847. They do appear to be a pair despite the hallmarks variation and I understand that these 2 makers were affiliated in some way so that may be the answer to the query. The pair have gilt linings- one is very clean but the other has been discoloured somewhat presumably by salt I feel it should clean up a little more and the gilt can ... morebe seen as still present.

This is a nice early example and it appears to have been hand made by a silversmith. We can see all the little file marks from when it was made. It is not marked anywhere and looks to be silverplate. The book mark is marked 830S(830/1000) in silver content which is typical for Norwegian silver. N in square. It is pretty small. Approximately 6.55 cm(2 9/16 inches) in length, perfect size for its function. One of the things that make this marvelous book mark extremely rare is that it includes its original box which is in extremely good condition. I have seen one other same design book mark but not in as good condition, and without the original box. Are you reading the Icelandic Sagas? This would be a marvelous book mark for such an occasion! Up for is this fabulous pair of Norwegian sterling silver open salts. these salts are figurative designs of a Viking ship with cobalt glass inserts and one has a silver salt spoon marked 830. The spoon resembles an oar. The salts. Inserts and the spoon are in great used vintage condition with no damage but they have been used. Antique Vintage Norway 925 Sterling Silver Viking Horn Salt Pepper Theodor Olsens Eftf(Pair) A beautiful pair of Scandinavian(Norway) salt/pepper shakers in solid Sterling silver. By the famous firm of silversmiths Theodor Olsens Eftf of Bergen. Norway. Viking drinking horn(cornucopia) design with intricate viking/celtic style twining dragon motif on sides and also on the stand at the front. The pull-off tops each have 12 holes in them. They can be used for either salt or pepper. The back of each stand is stamped(as pictured) with'STERLING NORWAY' and with the Olsens crown makers mark. Condition is very good. There is some tarnish. As you would expect, on the inside of the tops, but this could be cleaned off if desired. Each shaker stands approx 60mm tall and is 55mm long from front of stand to tip of horn.
