Up for auction is a Haeger Pottery Company of(East) Dundee. Illinois(1871 to Present) American Art Pottery, Large Mid-Century Modern Style, Slim Contour Ovoid Pillow Vase which has a Gloss Terracotta Red Glaze Application in"Excellent Plus" Used Condition, Copyright Dated 1984. This superb Haeger ovoid pillow vase has no chips. Cracks, glaze crazing, scuffs, stains or repairs of any kind. I'm stating the condition as being in"Near-Mint" condition because it has does have a couple of very faint scratches on the vase which I can't get to show up in the pictures I've provided. This is because the scratches are so faint. You really have to hold the vase close to your eyes and move it around in good lighting to see them at all. This vase also has some factory flaws which consist of the glaze being a bit uneven in ... morea place or two on the sides, but they are like the scratches. If you don't hold the vase at an angle without good lighting you can't see these flaws either. There is also a factory flaw on one end of the vase where the glaze may have run a bit causing a dark shadow within the glaze and I had trouble getting a good picture of this flaw, but when you look at picture 2 close up you can see it just a bit on the left side of the picture. I have to mention these flaws for accuracy sake, but overall they do nothing to take away from the great aesthetic value of this piece and how the vase displays overall. This vase measures about 7 1/4 inches tall and it measures about 12 1/4 inches long by about 5 1/2 inches wide. The top opening has a short 3/8 inch wide lip and since the top opening is oval it measures about 5 1/4 inches by 3 1/4 inches. Since the lip on the top curves inward slightly the top opening is about 4 1/2 inches by 2 3/8 inches and the flat oval base measures about 6 1/4 inches by 4 1/4 inches. The Haeger Pottery has always used a well vitrified semi-porcelain clay to make their artware so this vase weighs just over 2 3/4 pounds at exactly 2 pounds. 13.1 ounces.

The winged figure of a woman clad in classical attire and distributing rose like flowers supports a cupid-like child holding a torch. There are some losses in the olive green background and in the black bands circling the figures. The box lid and base rim. There is no manufacturer’s mark but the incised number 63 is very likely a potter’s mark from the factory. It is possibly by WEDGWOOD, manufactured in Staffordshire, England circa 1880. There are no chips or cracks and no repairs or alterations.

Antique Ancient Greek Terracotta Amphora Vase 2nd-3rd Century This is for an antique Ancient Greek terracotta amphora vase. Circa 2nd-3rd Century(100-300) Made of terracotta, the table-top size amphora is potted by hand, with a tall cylindrical curved neck, a bulbous body. Two loop handles, and a circular foot. The neck is slightly flared at the rim. With a curved lip, and is decorated around the sides with a concentric band of stippled decoration below two concentric bands. The body is also incised with concentric stippled decoration above two incised concentric bands. The amphora vase has two large carrying handles on opposite sides, which fit onto the neck and body. The interior of the neck has the remains of an integral pierced strainer. This amphora vase measures 24.8 cm in height and 15.3 cm in width. It weighs 1.010 grams. The condition ... moreis generally excellent, there are two small chips to the lip, and a chip to the integral strainer, there are no cracks, no other damage or repair, the terracotta has the patina of age, with a brownish orange hue. Congo: Rare Tribal used African Terracotta Mangbetu Jar. Height: 41 cm. Water pots or palm wine containers were often given anthropomorphic shapes or were abstracted with complex necks ad bodies. Similar forms of figured pots are found among a number of different peoples through a large range stretching from central Africa to its eastern reaches. Well known sculpted ceramics are found among the Mangbetu. The Zande, the Bari and Bale and especially among a number of Luba, Chokwe related peoples including the Lwena, Lwale, Luchazi and Lungu. This pot shows a female head with her elongated hairstyle typical of the Zande and Mangbetu.

During our research we have been informed she dates about c1890 and is of Austrian origin. To the rear at the base is the Frederick Goldscheider incised marks. Other marks of numbers above with: A signature to the shoulder to the rear with: further incised marks to the side at the bottom. In a terracotta with the hand painted colouring. Wonderful porrayal with the head scarf and part open wrap across the breast with decoration of medallions around the neck. Stunning facial decoration of the female blackamoor. Superb Antique Glazed Terracotta Platter Floral 19th century Turkestan A large antique Turkestan polychrome glazed terracotta platter decorated with an impressive floral and leaf design. Such pieces would have formed part of a home's traditional Turkestan tableware; stylistic influence from the Orient. Notably China are very obvious in some pieces and this, as early as the 9th century. Shaped on a very basic potter's wheel. The wares are then glazed and fired in a traditional kiln. The firing is done on a tripod and as a result three visible marks where the glaze is absent are visible at the centre of the plate.
