Glazed Vintage Terracotta Teapot By Asian Makers
Up for auction is a small vintage terracotta teapot with glazed twisted handles and spout. There is one crack underneath the spout and three cracks on the lid. The cracks on the lid were glued by the previous owner but its very secure and will not come off. The crack that runs underneath the spout is not glued and it does go all the way through in a couple places. When water is added. You can see a couple drips on the outside after about 5 seconds. Some glue or sealant would fix this with no problem. There is also a couple chips on the bottom side of the lid that cant be seen when sitting on top of the pot. Please see the pictures for actual condition as they are part of the description. There are chinese symbols stamped under the lid and I am not sure what the stamp underneath the teapot is. Overall this is a one of a kind display piece ... morewith some ornate decor. Even without fixing the crack inside, it can still be used with little fluid seeping though. I'm not certain of my description here but I've been advised that this is a 1930's terracotta statue in the Mexican Pre-Columbian style. Designed to be sold to gullible Westerners as the real thing. Pictures tell the story. Nothing to be added really, certain areas are very graphic so I've had to obscure them. Appears to be hand sculpted rather than cast. Baby Giraffe BASIL MATTHEWS Miniature Figurine. This fabulous piece is by the late sculptor Basil Matthews. The sculpture measures 3-1/2 inches tall and 2-7/8 inches long. The detailing is absolutely phenomenal.Basil sculpts from solid clay; there is no slip castings used. Each piece is completely by hand. And signed. Antique Vallauris Pot Very Good Condition A terracotta colored pot with an old Vallauris mark showing the company name of Rouazou-Jourdan. Based upon the information derived from a history of the region written by Jean Ferdinand Petrucci(PhD in History of Technology EHESS) for this region encompassing the period of 1501-1945 this pot was made in the 1890s to the early 1900s. At that time the Rouazou-Jourdan pottery works employed 27 people. It measures approximately 7 ¾ inches tall with a 7 ¾ inch opening. There are chips from use in the terracotta on the side and bottom which did not affect its usefulness. Truly an interesting historical piece related to the Vallauris region. My searches did not find any other pots available from this manufacturer which indicates rarity.
