This item is very heavy(weighs approximately 4 lb. 10 oz. and measures approximately 7 1/2" high. 3 1/4" wide, and 2 7/8" thick(at it's longest points) The texture is very rough with many ridges, rough and indented areas, pitting and partial holes, scratches, scuffs, scrapes, and some greenish paint on it. On the flat end, in black ink is stated"Arizona Von#180" The edge does have some chipping(and there is chipping in other areas) but overall is relatively sharp(not enough to cut though) Perhaps some damage in areas, but I don't know for certain. 16" Stone Carved Axe Asian in Case Oriental Carved Dragon Knife
This stone carved axe came from an auction in Vermont. The auction invoice calls it- stone carved dragon knife. I'm unsure what kind of stone this is. Any information would be greatly appreciated. The axe measures 16" long and 8 1/2" wide at the widest point. The axe without the case weighs 2 pounds. There are symbols carved on the back, see the 9th and 10th pictures. A man's head is on the side of the axe, see the 3rd picture. One end of the blade has a chip, see the 5th picture. There are some rough spots that made have been made during the carving process or possibly after in which case these may be considered chips, see the last picture. The case measures 17 1/2 by 9 1/4 inches. The case has wear on the outside and on the inside, see the 10th and 11th pictures. The axe in the case weighs 3 pounds, 7 ounces. Hardstone Full Groove 7" Stone Axe, possibly Nebo Hill
I purchased this axe at an auction several years ago in Missouri. It looks like an Iowa axe to me. Maybe Nebo Hill type. The thing I love about this axe is the large chunk missing from the one side. It make me wonder if that happened after the axe was made. Or if the maker knew of the flaw in the stone and continued anyway since it is such a hard stone. The bit also shows interesting wear. On the one side the bit polish is perfect. On the other side there is a slight dip in the bit but it has been worn down from use. This is a real beauty. All items shipped insured.

Here is one Native American Crude stone Hammer/Axe/Hoe. This piece measures 7 inches long x 3 1/4 inches wide x 1 1/4 inches thick and weighs in at about a pound and a quarter. Pieces like this verify the thinking that people used what materials they had available to survive. This piece is from the southern Virginia. Awesome ¾ Groove Stone Axe w/ Blood Grooves NOTE: this axe has 3 grooves on one side of the blade called blood grooves I believe. They are a little hard to see in the pics, but they are there. This is an excellent stone axe from a Ohio artifact collection I bought about a year ago. This axe obviously has some age. But I don't know exactly how old it is, so I am saying mid 1900's or earlier. It actually looks much older to me, so please check the pictures for yourself. It has a beautiful patina and is in very good condition except for some minor nicks and scratches here and there. There is also some residue from an old round collection label on one side. 5-Primitive Native American Artifacts, Pipe, Pendant, Axe Heads, & Stone
This is a nice group of Native American items that I'm offering. I am not sure of the age of these pieces, because I'm not an expert. The white colored stone is known as a double grooved axe head, the two pointed axe head has one groove for tying to a handle, the pipe is green stone, as well as the bird pendant, and the last piece is smooth except where it was broken. The sizes are, double grooved axe is app. 3 1/2" long, the two pointed axe is app. 3" long, the pipe is app. 1 1/2" pipe is app. 3 1/2" and the stone is app. 3 1/4" This collection came from a man who collected from the 1940's up to the 1980's, who collected all over the United States. full groove stone age axe artifact tool ax 10.75 inches! primitive
This is a recent estate sale find. It was on the bottom of a box of mineral samples. Geodes, and rocks, which would account for the light scratches over much of the item. It measures approximately 10 3/4 inches by 4 1/2 inches by 2 1/4 inches. It weighs approximately 4.7 pounds. I have no idea what type of stone it's made of or which ancient civilization, culture, or subculture from which it is a relic. It's obvious this item was made to be used and that it was used. It has appropriate and expected wear and weathering. With lots of peck marks(marks made by the maker as he/she was forming the shape) The business end is polished to a point and there are some polished areas in the groove, but there are peck marks as well. If you look at pictures 6 and 7, there are two angular grooves on either side of the axe. Since they are almost symmetrical, ... moreit's possible they were made intentionally, which would add to the interest of this artifact. North east of Mount Hagen where the stone is quarried. Very old and well kept. FANTASTIC OLD ANTIQUE TRIBAL ABORIGINAL NATIVE AMERICAN STONE HEADED AXE CLUB
Being offered is a very fine old antique tribal war club or stone headed axe. I am unsure as to the exact origin but I lean mostly towards this being an Aboriginal stone headed club from Australia but I wouldn't rule out a Native American origin for this stone headed club. The club measures 18 1/2" in total length. The amount of stone protruding is 2" and the total width of the club head is 5 1/2" This item has the appearance of being very old. The handle is chip carved and is of a rock hard wood. Almost like petrified wood. It is super hard and it has developed a wonderful deep blackish patina that is only obtained over very long periods of use and time. The shape of the handle particularly towards the lower end of the handle reminds me very much of Native American gunstock clubs. The shape of the stone and head in General ... morereminds me of stone headed objects from the Aboriginal tribes of Australia. The stone head is secured to the shaft via some type of plant fiber. Especially to South America and New Guinea. Gilliard was born in York. Pennsylvania. He began a lifelong association with the American Museum of Natural History(AMNH) in New York in 1932 by working there as a volunteer. In 1933 he was employed there as an assistant and subsequently passed through the full range of promotions to become Curator of Birds in 1963, dying unexpectedly in office two years later, in his 53rd year, ... moreof a sudden heart attack. During the 1930s Gilliard was involved in expeditions to Quebec. Newfoundland and Venezuela, and in the 1940s to Brazil, the Philippines and New Guinea. The 1950s saw more expeditions, not only to New Guinea, but also to Nepal and the West Indies. New Guinea, and especially its Birds of Paradise and bowerbirds, kept drawing him back, and he led a total of five expeditions there, his final one in 1964. As well as numerous papers in the scientific publications of the AMNH. He wrote many illustrated articles for Natural History and the National Geographic Magazine. He wrote Living Birds of the World(1958) Birds of Paradise and Bower Birds(1969) and coauthored(with Austin L. Rand) the Handbook of New Guinea Birds(1967) Gilliard was an expert photographer and cinematographer; he was involved in making the documentary Search for Paradise(1957) which was directed by Otto Lang.
