Here is a fascinating lot of Norton Abrasive related items. One says Norton Abrasives Quickcut Oilstone. Behr-Manning, Troy, N.Y. some scuffs, spots and wear on box but intact and decent. The stone is 6 X 2 X 3/4 inches. Two different colors and actually has label on side of stone, peeling a little but here. I think it saw some use, but fairly minimal I think. The next one is more of square box and says Norton Abrasives same company and place, but this is Crystolon Axe Stone Round Combination, some wear on trademark on stone but some left. Stone is decent and about 3 inches across and about 5/8 of inch thick. Other side is more coarse and doesn't seem to have gotten as much use. Box has number on it, little wear,but pretty nice for its age. Couple of quite nice items for someone. Thanks for looking.

Great old double ended Gouge. Wedge or Axe from a collection out of Harrisville in Cheshire County New Hampshire. 5&3/4" long. Made of ground and polished dark red stone that is heavy and dense; probably a form of compacted siltstone or other sedimentary rock. Both ends have a bit with an edge but they're turned at 90 degree angles to one another. Very unique. Probably from the Middle to Late Archaic period around 4000- 7000 years old. No modern damage. In fact. I really don't see any damage, ancient or otherwise. Some small areas of ancient use wear on the surface. Everything is equally patinated. US WW2 SURVIVAL TOOL LC-14-B, MACHETE, AXE w/ booklets and sharpening stone
The LC-14-B is another commercial item that went to war. Sold pre-war to campers and hunters as the"Woodsmans Pal. All production went to the military after WW2 broke out and it was used by all branches, particularly the signal corps. It was described as a"axe, machete, brush hook, spade and fighting knife" This example is in good condition without defects although it shows its age. It has been used. But not abused. Someone has written"ie jima" on the sheath with silver paint. I have no idea as to who. When, or why. It is interesting to note that Ie Jima, also known as Ie Shima is one of the islands off Okinawa, where very bloody fighting took place in the closing days of the war. This is where the famous correspondent Ernie Pyle was killed and also where the US suffered its highest ranking casualty of the world war ... moretwo; two star General, Simon Bolivar Buckner. Ie Shima also figured into the wars end because a Japanese delegation came to the island to discuss peace terms. As the talks progressed, the delegation was transported to General MacArthur's headquarters in Corregidor. It is not a stretch to think someone was commemorating their service on Ie Jima. RARE FIND! Purchased on a trip to Arizona. The Man who sold this to us was CREEK Indian( Oklahoma) and informed us this was an authentic" Childs" Tomahawk. We can only go by our information he gave. This was most likely made while the Men were making Tools. The young boys would also make" tools" along side the fathers( He explained this is how they learned the trade) The pictures will give a very accurate description. The hide wrappings are somewhat decomposed, and showing much age. The Man said this was most likely made around the turn of the century.but we cannot confirm this for sure. however, the condition seems consistent with this. The stone head is a crude chipping. Here is a superb ancient 3/4 grooved stone axe in excellent condition. Beautiful layered or banded black stone with a good heavy patina. Look at the beautiful super thin blade on this axe. I can't believe this axe survived unbroken! Perfect form. Original untouched patina. Some damage on the hammer poll end as pictured but over all an A+ axe. Excavated on the Long Island of the Holston in Kingsport. TN in 1968 by a local digger. Fresh to the market. Just a great axe! This is a large full groove gray/green hard stone axe. It was found In Ohio. The county Is unknown. length is 7 2 inches. The widest point is 3.7 inches inches. The groove is 3.2 inches from side to side. At the poll the axe is 2.2 inches. Through the groove the axe is 2.0 inches thick. The stone weight 2 pounds 12 ounces. There are a few small use dings. There is something captivating about this object, whether it is the pattern of the percussion marks, or the way the light dances off the surface and interacts with the changing caramel colours of the underlying flint, it is more than a typical Neolithic axe. For the man or woman who crafted this axe. Life was a struggle, a constant battle against the elements. Seasonal migration would have been a constant feature of their life, moving between settlements hunting and fishing on the coast, whilst making occasional trips inland to hunt for forest animals and to engage in exchange with farming communities in the interior. However, there ... moreis a sense of creativity that runs throughout the artefact, from the attractive caramel hue of the stone to the pleasing form, we can appreciate these aspects just as they did, giving us an almost sacred sense of shared humanity with this man or woman from such a distant, remote time. A very fine ancient Scandinavian Neolithic stone battle-axe. Dating to 2600– 2350 BC. A broad. Powerful implement, perforated in the centre to take a wooden handle, this stone axe is more than just a crushing weapon, it is symbolic of an age where the culture of the warrior was spreading across northern Europe. Indeed it is sometimes referred to as The Age of the Crushed Skulls. Yet the form of this axe is perfectly symmetrical and the longer one holds it the more one can appreciate the small details in craftsmanship that define the exceptional from the ordinary. On close inspection the top of the axe can be distinguished from the bottom by a very slight bevel. Whilst the two sides are rounded and pleasing to the touch, meeting perfectly in the centre to form an equally symmetrical, slightly curved edge. This piece truly reflects the art ... moreas well as the technology of Neolithic Scandinavia. Often found alongside distinctive beakers used for the consumption of beer and mead. We can get a sense of the society that created this piece. The beaker and the battle-axe together are redolent with meaning, suggesting a culture that valued the strength and authority of the individual, but also feasting and hospitality.
