NORTHERN EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description This offer consists of typical worked knives. Blades and flakes. Dating to the earliest part of the Mesolithic Ertebolle Ellerbek Culture 5400-4000bc. Terrific marble-like pieces. All with fossil includings! During the Mesolithic period(c.9300-4000 BC) after the end of the ice age. Hunters spread across the extensive area which connected Denmark to England during the Continental period. The forest was relatively light in the beginning with bison, wild horses, elk and aurochs. In time, the forest became more dense and red deer and roe-deer became the commonest game. Food scraps were piled up in kitchen middens which contained huge numbers of oyster shells. Grave finds bear witness to care and respect for the dead. The Ertebolle culture: One of the most famous Nordic cultures was the Ertebolle culture(also known as Ertebølle or Ellerbek) This culture came into existence at the end of the Mesolithic period around 5400 BC and lasted to 4000 BC. The center of the Ertebolle culture is believed to have been Denmark but this people also lived in southern Scandinavia, Finland, northern Germany and Poland, and the Netherlands, which was roughly the same area as where later the Funnelbeaker people and the Germans lived. The Ertebolle people mainly lived from hunting, gathering, and fishing, they used stone

Ancient Danish Stone Age Neolithic Type III Flint Dagger - Gotland
A beautiful. Rare and well provenanced neolithic type III dagger, dating to approximately 2100 B.C. and found in Gotland, Sweden. This wonderful prehistoric stone tool was made from a large piece of flint. Broken down and then painstakingly chipped into form, the attractive surface flaking was created by the use of a soft hammer, likely made from bone, or antler. Beautiful stitching marks run along the tools edges, showing where each tiny chip was removed; evidence of the extreme skill of the ancient craftsman. The emergence of flint daggers in late neolithic Scandinavian cultures is thought to be a fascinating response to new technology being used in the production of bronze daggers in central Europe. From the 3rd millennium onwards. This new metal weaponry clearly made an impression on the surrounding cultures of this period, who began ... moreto make flint copies, and who's influence can be seen through their stylistic similarities. This fascinating early flint implement. Dates to the north-west European Neolithic period(approx 4000-2000 B.C. This period saw the dawn of civilization, when Early man was leaving the Hunter-Gatherer lifestyle towards a more sedentary, farm-oriented existence. This transition is one of the overwhelming achievements of man, enabling food surplus and the rise of civilization. Length: 5 1/4 inches. Condition: Good. Tip of dagger broken. Old collection label bearing'Gotland' likely the find site) still attached. Provenance: An extremely well provenanced piece. From the collection of James Curle(1862-1944) of Melrose, Scotland, and thence by descent. Although a lawyer by profession, Curle was an accomplished amateur archaeologist and his name remains one of the most famous in the field of Romano-British Archaeology, having excavated and published extensively in the early 1900's. From 1888-1903 Curle acquired the most magnificent collection of Nordic antiquities outside Scandinavia, eventually selling most of his pieces to the British Museum in 1921. The Curle collection in the

DETAIL: Jade was widely used by primitive peoples as tools and weapons in the Neolithic. Especially in Europe, Mexico, Asia, New Zealand, and North Africa(including ancient Egypt) The best-known finds are from the lake dwellings of Switzerland, western France, and China. The source for Europe’s Neolithic jade remains undiscovered, but it was probably from a deposit in the Alps. Nephrite is very hard and was prized for keeping a sharp edge. In the Americas the Aztecs, Mayas, Olmecs, Toltecs, and other Pre-Columbian peoples of Mexico and Central America carved jadeite for use as ornaments, amulets, and badges of rank. Nearly all of these Meso-American jades are of various shades of green, with emerald green the most highly prized color among the Aztecs. The jade carvings range from plaques, figurines, small masks, pendants, to of course, tools and weapons. The widespread use of jade died out in Meso-America after the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. Here are two nice quality 19th century antique hand crafted/shaped/polished semi-precious jade gemstones. The gemstones were hand shaped and polished by a 19th century Russian artisan. Gorgeous Quartizte Scraper, Stone Age Paleolithic Lower Acheulian 600.000 BC
Gorgeous Quartizte Scraper. Stone Age Paleolithic Lower Acheulian 600.000 BC Description Type: convex scraper on interior side on flake. Paleolithic Period. Industry: Lower Paleolithic: Lower Acheulian. Dating: archaeological research in Western Europe proved that the European continent has been conquested as early as 1.3 to 1,1 Mio years(finds of Atapuerca/ Spain) Early Pleistocene. The assignment of the oldest human finds at Atapuerca to a particular early human species as Homo erectus or Homo antecessor is still controversial. As controversially discussed is the earliest date of permanent colonization of Europe, and good dating of the high gravel terraces of southern French rivers is still lacking. So we suggest an estimated time frame of approx. 800.000 to 400.000 BC. Description: Size: length 8.6 cm, weight 297 grams, Shape. Retouch: ... moremost large tools of the Lower Acheulian were made on pebbles. As choppers, chopping-tools and handaxes. Tools on flakes are rather rarely offered. This gorgeous scraper here is made on large triangular flake with cortical exterior side and cortical platform. The scraper is made on the interior side with significant retouch: continuous broad flaking and edge refining. The retouch is continued up to the distal part of the left edge(pictures 4, 5) Raw-material: a flake out of gray-green quartzite with a wide quartz band. Best visible at the bottom of the tool in the first and last picture, Preservation: very well: edges are slightly rounded. Flake scars well defined. As far as can be seen no recent damages, Additional Information. Literature: The pebble tools found on the high gravel terraces of the Garonne. Outstanding Neanderthal Chalcedony Core Hammerstone, Stone Age Mousterian
Outstanding Neanderthal Chalcedony Core Hammerstone. Stone Age Mousterian Description Type: core hammerstone. Paleolithic Period. Industry: Middle Paleolithic: Mousterian. Dating: ca. 250.000 to 40.000 B.C. Description: Size: 6.3 cm x 6,2 cm x 4,6 cm, weight 215 grams, Shape. Retouch: a fantastic hammerstone on chalcedony core with drusies. Which may have been the reason for the core to be converted into this hammerstone. The tool is roundish, but some flat planes(negative scars of detached flakes) are still visible. The hammerstone has two major scars fields on the faces, and several edges have scars fields too, as they were used for flint knapping. A large drusy is on the face shown first, but the crystals are rounded and worn, they don't glitter anymore. The second drusy with glittery crystals is shown in pictures 6 and 7. Underside and all edges are very carefully prepared. The edges all are at right angle to the reduction face, means, they all would have made great platforms. Point of percussion of the target-flake is marked on the reduction ... moreface and the platform respectively, Raw-material: gorgeous creamy-white marbled patinated chalcedony, Preservation: very well. Retouch: an amazing pointed scraper on elongated flake. The steep right edge is the scraper. The right edge of the tip is beautifully trimmed. 200000Y.O: HUGE PROTO HAND AX STONE AGE PALEOLITHIC CLACTONIAN ACHEULEAN EUROPE!
EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description Outstanding wonderful Paleolithic( Paleolithic) hand ax of the Pre- Early) Homo Neanderthalensis- the Neanderthal Neandertal men from the Acheulean phase about 250.000- 200.000 years ago. The length of this unique flint tool is 158 mms! Acheulean( Acheuléen) industries is the term to describe the first standardized tradition of toolmaking of Homo erectus and early Homo sapiens. Named for the type site. Saint-Acheul, in Somme département, in northern France, Acheulean tools were made of stone with good fracture characteristics, including chalcedony, jasper, and flint; in regions lacking these, quartzite might be used. During the Acheulean period, which lasted from 1.5 million to 100.000 years ago, the presence of good tool stone was probably an important ... moredetermining factor in the distribution of early humans. In the later stages they learned to bring stone from distant areas and thus became freer in their choice of homesites. Tool kits” that differ in tool types reflect the varying adaptations made by early Stone Age humans to different environments. Homo sapiens neanderthalensis is the species name given to a homo specimens that inhabited Europe and the Middle East. In 1856 Johann Karl Fuhlrott, a teacher and amateur naturalist, first recognized the fossil called“Neanderthal man” discovered in Neanderthal a valley near Mettmann in what is now North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Homo Neanderthalensis is a distinctive form of archaic Homo sapiens, with a long, flat, braincase(capacity 1200–1750 ccm) a retreating frontal, heavy brow ridge, and a projecting face with a large nose. Contrary to early reconstructions, Neanderthals were fully upright, but had stocky, muscular body build. Fossil evidence indicates Neanderthal characters evolved slowly from the Homo Heidelbergensis about 500.000 years ago, but the full set of features only occur after 100.000 years ago as a result of adaptations to a cold climate.
