During the Mesolithic period(c.9300-4000 BC) after the end of the ice age. Hunters spread across the extensive area which connected Denmark to England during the Continental period. The forest was relatively light in the beginning with bison, wild horses, elk and aurochs. In time, the forest became more dense and red deer and roe-deer became the commonest game. Settlements were often situated near the edges of lakes which have since become bogs. Great Boy Scouts of America ring is silver and marked 925. Size 6.25 and about 3/4" wide across the top. Stone is well set. Cut with many facets, and amber or golden brown color; not sure what the stone is. Stone is set with an open back and pointed on the underside thus reflecting the light even better. It's edges are retouched. The tip has fine splintered use– scars on the interior side. Dating: ca. 250.000 to 40.000 B.C. Description: Size: 6.3 cm x 6,2 cm x 4,6 cm, weight 215 grams, Shape. Retouch: a fantastic hammerstone on chalcedony core with drusies. Which may have been the reason for the core to be converted into this hammerstone. The tool is roundish, but some flat planes(negative scars of detached flakes) are still visible. The hammerstone has two major scars fields on the faces, and several edges have scars fields too, as they were used for flint knapping. A large drusy is on the face shown first, but the crystals are rounded and worn, they don't glitter anymore. The second drusy with glittery crystals is shown in pictures 6 and 7. Dating: ca. 250.000 to 40.000 B.C. Description: Size: 8.4 cm x 5,8 cm x 4,8 cm, weight grams, Shape. Retouch: a terrific Levallois core of square shape. Underside and all edges are very carefully prepared. The edges all are at right angle to the reduction face, means, they all would have made great platforms. The reduction face exhibits the negative scar of one short target-flake, most probably a failed one, it is just too short. The core is turned clockwise from picture 1 to 4, the next two show the upper end which is prepared with countless small stepped flaking, and the last picture shows the platform. Dating: approx. 75.000 to 65.000 B.C. Isotope stage 4, the first cold maximum of the last glaciation in Europe, where climatic conditions were harsh and extremely cold. Description: Size: length 5.0 cm, weight 44 grams, Shape. Retouch: a fantastic endscraper of Quina type on flake with small plain platform remnant. It's distal end is steep and has a typical steep stepped Quina retouch. Raw-material: grey patinated flint, Preservation: very well: few tiny flat recent chips. Literature: Some characteristics of the Quina Mousterian industry: only little Levallois technique ... morewas used. But Clacton flakes were preferred, no handaxes were found in the assemblages, a very high percentage of scrapers with lateral, double, convergent, transverse as most common ones, and sometimes small very thin scrapers with a very fine stepped retouch. Preferred retouch was the stepped/ or Quina retouch, made with hard strikes first which produced broad, irregular flake negatives and secondary refining retouches directly at the edges in a second step. The long narrow flake scar at the left edge of the tip looks like a burin blow, but we don't think it is one because too unusual(too narrow) on a Neanderthal tool.
