Every piece is in great uncracked condition. They are absolutely originals, but it can be seen well on the items patina. These 32 piece is from an old private collection. In this lot there are many manyi types of items. Some are really hard to find. In the first line, there are 2 hitting stones and some obsidian core and tool. EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description of the Homo Neanderthalensis- the Neanderthal( Neandertal) men from the Mousterian phase about 40.000- 60.000 years ago. It is a very large pointed flake. Most likely used as a borer/ burin/ knife. The Mousterian industry appeared around 200.000 years ago and persisted until about 40,000 years ago, in much the same areas of Europe, the Near East and Africa where Acheulean tools appear. In Europe these tools are most closely associated with Homo neanderthalensis, but elsewhere were made by both Neanderthals and early Homo sapiens. Mousterian tools required a preliminary shaping of the stone core from which the actual blade is struck off. The toolmakers either shaped a rock into a rounded surface before striking off the raised area as a wedge shaped flake(see photo ... moreat left) or they shaped the core as a long prism of stone before striking off triangular flakes from its length, like slices from a baguette. Because Mousterian tools were conceived as refinements on a few distinct core shapes, the whole process of making tools had standardized into explicit stages(basic core stone, rough blank, refined final tool) Variations in tool shapes could be produced by changes in the procedures at any stage. Industry: Middle Paleolithic: Quina Mousterian. Dating: approx. 75.000 to 65.000 B.C. Isotope stage 4, the first cold maximum of the last glaciation in Europe, where climatic conditions were harsh and extremely cold. Description: Size: length 4.5 cm, weight 14 grams, Shape. Retouch: a wonderful retouched knife on a thin angular flake with prepared platform remnant. It’s platform angle is too oblique to be a typical Levallois flake. And too steep to be a typical Clacton one. The thin, sharp left edge has a beautiful fine flat stepped/Quina retouch, very typical especially for the Quina Mousterian industry. Mousterian in Acheulian Tradition(MAT) Dating: approx. 52.000 to 40.000 B.C. Description: Size: length 4.5 cm, weight 18 grams, Shape. Retouch: an unusual scraper on elongated Levallois flake. The convex right edge is retouched with significant flat flaking. With a very rare intentionally made nose at the proximal part– see pictures 3 and 4.
