An Imprint of HarperCollins Publishers; 2004) Her power was rivaled only by her beauty. Her face has become one of the most recognizable images in the world. She was an independent woman and thinker centuries before her time. But who was Egypt's Queen Nefertiti? After years of intense research. Dr. Joann Fletcher has answered the questions countless researchers before her could not. While studying Egyptian royal wigs, she read a brief mention of an unidentified and mummified body, discovered long ago and believed to belong to an Egyptian of little importance. This body happened to have a wig, which Dr. Fletcher knew was a clear sign of power. After examining the hairpiece and the woman to which it belonged, to the astonishment of her colleagues she identified this body as the missing remains of Queen Nefertiti. The search for Nefertiti had ended. She had been found. But the questions were just beginning. Nefertiti first rose to prominence in Egyptology in 1912. When a three-thousand-year-old bust of the queen was unearthed and quickly became a recognizable artifact around the world. But pieces of Nefertiti's life remained missing. The world had seen what she looked like, but few knew about her place in history. Virtually nothing is recorded about Nefertiti's ea

Ancient Egyptian Shabti/Ushabti Faience Statue! Osiris--Lord of the Dead!
ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS Artifacts. Antiques& Fine Collectables Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Ancient Egyptian Faience Statue Osiris—Lord of the Dead! Ushabti/ Shabti C. 300 BC—30 BC Approximately 2, 00 Years Old! Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE This authentic and ancient Egyptian statue of Osris—Lord of the Dead dates to the end of Egypt’s Ptolemaic Period or approximately 300 BC—30 BC! He is about 2.38” 60 mm) tall x.76" 19 mm) wide and weighs just.3 oz or 8 grams. This Shabti as a beautiful. Turquoise color from the faience(a non-clay ceramic composed of crushed quartz. Sand, and other minerals) and the natural aging of over 2,000 years! Many of these Shabti, like this one produced during Ptolemy Egypt, were made by pressing the soft faience into a hollow mold and then baking it under high temperatures ... moreuntil the quartz and sand fused together. The figure Osiris-Lord of the Dead. Is shown wearing tripartite wig. Beard, and he is holding a pick and hoe over each shoulder. The reverse or back side of the statue is flat, while the bottom, foot area is slightly curved. This plain and ordinary shabti would not have served in a pharaoh’s tomb. But rather he would have been place in a more common grave to serve a more common man. That is why this smaller, plain shabti is offered at a lower price than the normal $500-$5,000 that these authentic statues bring at fine auctions or on eBay. Larger more ornate shabti sets can cost $10,000 to $100,000 or more! I had a chance back in 1969 to buy a complete set of 365 shabti from a museum for $600—alas.I had no money and had to turn it down. L BACKGROUND: Ushabtis also known as Shabtis or Shawabties are probably the most collectible of all artifacts to come from ancient Egypt. These magical statues were placed in tombs. And held the role of being servants or substitutes for the deceased. They were designed to accompany him or her into paradise and comply with requests from the gods. It was common for as many as 365 Ushabtis and 36 Over
Ancient Egyptian New Kingdom Wooden Painted Ushabti / Shabti - 1250 BC
A stunning and extremely rare ancient Egyptian painted wooden gesso ushabti dating to the New Kingdom(19th Dynasty) Likely produced in Thebes around 1250 B.C. Carved with a care and precision not often encountered, this piece has all the delicate poignancy one associates with small scale Egyptian sculpture- and is one of the finer examples we have handled. Of a pleasing. Slender appearance. Depicted in mummiform, arms crossed right over left on chest, each hand holding a hoe. The tripartite wig painted blue; the back and the lappets of the wig appear to be tied at the ends, indicated by red horizontal lines. A large wesekh collar. Completely covering the upper part of the body, is painted in yellow, red and black. The diminutive face has been carefully carved, the flesh is painted brown and the features are black, with the eyeballs a vivid ... morewhite. With remnants of the original linen wrappings preserved under the back of the wig and right elbow(as shown) Below the waist are a series of four horizontal panels are painted yellow and framed by thin red lines. They contain lines of inscription painted black. Which state that the owner was the"Lady of the House and Chantress of Amun. The text containing the name is now indecipherable but is said to have originally been legible as" Djau-Rhyt. Hand carved wooden shabtis were of course far more costly and labour intensive than the standard mass produced pottery forms from this period. As such we can be sure this facinating artefact was commissioned by an individual of substantial means. The shabti was a funerary figure. Placed in the tombs of wealthy individuals that, on account of its human appearance and hieroglyphic text identifying it, would fool the gods into thinking that the shabti was the deceased. This was important as all ancient Egyptians might be required to perform menial manual labour in the afterlife if summoned. It thus became common practice among the highly religious and superstitious elite to place these figures in their burial chambers, that

Ancient Egyptian New Kingdom Wooden Ushabti / Shabti Figure - 1250 BC
A rare ancient Egyptian hand carved wooden ushabti dating to the New Kingdom. Around 1250 BC. With schematic features and traces of painted decoration, this is a large, genuine example. Of a pleasing. Slender appearance, the figure is depicted in mummiform, with the arms crossed over the chest. The tripartite wig painted in dark green, remnants of pigment also remain on the upper chest, possibly depicting a large wesekh collar which would have covered the upper part of the body. Worn by the passing of time. This piece has lost its fine detail and gained a striking visual sense of flowing, indistinct form that one associates with the linen wrapped mummies themselves. Hand carved wooden shabtis were of course far more costly and labour intensive than the standard mass produced pottery forms from this period. As such we can be sure this fascinating ... moreartefact was commissioned by an individual of substantial means. It thus became common practice among the highly religious and superstitious elite to place these figures in their burial chambers, that could be substituted for themselves if need be. A spell was often written on the shabti so that it would awaken as planned, this is the'shabti spell' from chapter six of the Book of the Dead and reads as follows: O shawabti. If[name of deceased] is called upon, If he is appointed to do any work which is done on the necropolis, Even as the man is bounden. Namely to cultivate the fields, To flood the river-banks or to carry the sand of the East to the West, And back again. Then'Here am I! you shall say" A fascinating. Evocative and rare piece of ancient Egyptian wooden sculpture. Height: 7 ¼ inches. Condition: Goo

Ancient Egyptian Shabti Figure Made For The High Priestess Henuttawy - 967 BC
An ancient Egyptian faience shabti of Henuttawy. The daughter of the High Priest and ruler of Egypt, Pinedjem II. This figure dates to the Third Intermediate Period, specifically around 980 BC to 930 BC. Shabtis from the tomb of Henuttawy are found in museums across the world, including Cairo, London and Berlin. Shown mummiform. Wearing the tripartite wig with particularly long lappets and the seshed headband. With frontal rows of hieroglyphs. The arms crossed left over right on the chest, each hand holding a painted hoe(now worn) and with seed basket on back. The face strongly shaped, with eyes, nose and mouth all still discernable. This shabti probably came from the Ramesseum. Site of the 19th Dynasty mortuary temple of Ramesses II where a 22nd Dynasty cemetery was found within the store chambers of the temple. Henuttawy was the daughter ... moreof Pinedjem II and his principle wife Iset-em-Khebit. Though never crowned as ruler of all Egypt, Pinedjem attained power as de facto ruler of the south of the country and was essentially recognised as Pharaoh. As the daughter of such a powerful man, Henuttawy rose to the position of God's Wife of Amun, an office with political importance as well as religious, since the two were closely related in Ancient Egypt. It thus became common practice among the highly religious and superstitious elite to place these figures in their burial chambers, that could be substituted for themselves if need be. This particular shabti reads as follows: The illuminated one. The Osiris, the'Divine Adoratrice, Henut-tawy, she speaks: O, these shabtis[the rest of the spell is a standard chapter 6 spell from the Book of the Dead] Please note that this

The faience of these shabtis is often very delicate and breaks easily so that most pieces on the market are fragmentary. This piece also has a well detailed face. The shabti dates to the 22th dynasty based on the position of the hands. The proportion of the body, the flat back and the light green colour. Shipping insured registered 35 u$
