Here we have a wonderful vintage signet seal ring with a Roman cameo in 800 continental silver. This ring is size 7 and the signet measures 23mm tall. 19mm wide and weighs 6.6 grams. The signet is in a simple oval disk form with silver soldered finger ring welded to the back. It features a chased Roman cameo profile with nice detailing and it is stamped 800 for silver content on the back. ROMAN BRONZE RING Roman Auxiliary Legion Seal Ring! Size 8 1/2 Average Opening = 18.52mm Antiquities Corner is proud to present this fine historical artifact for your collecting pleasure. These artifacts were originally designed to be enjoyed by their owners and I have tried to return these treasures to a state which will both charm and enchant their new owners and show the skill and craftsmanship of old. What a SUPER ring! This ring was found in Ancient Moesia and dates from 200- 400 A.D. This ring is from one of the many Auxiliary Legions that Rome raised from the native levees in her provinces. You will notice in the picture above that this ring was made to use as a seal. The center of this bezel has a nicely engraved monogram done in the punched-dot style. LOOK.at how nicely every single punched-dot is still as clear as the day this ring ... morewas made. The central design is of four curved lines in opposed pairs. These make a pair of oval or eye shapes which have a design in them. The design in one is of a letter"M" and the other also seems to have a letter"M" but they could both be"Lightning Bolts" since they are both going in the same direction. The color and shine of this ring are AMAZING. LOOK.at all of my pictures and you will see how mirrorlike the surface of this ring is and even the branches of the trees in my yard are reflected in the surface. I have been looking through my records to find which units were operating in that area and may account for this design. But haven't identified it so far. I believe that it may have belonged to one of the Auxiliary units that were attached to the 10th Legion. The Romans would levy troops from people who had skills in war that weren't standard to the legions and employ them against their enemies. It was common for career soldiers to move from legion to legion based on which Legate would see the most profitable action and therefore amass more loot for his troops. These artifacts were originally designed to be enjoyed by their owners and I have tried to return these treasures to a state which will both charm and enchant their new owners and show the skill and craftsmanship of old. True Holy Artifact! This ring was found at a Roman site in Ancient Moesia and dates from 400- 600 A.D. This ring was never made as a fancy article and may have been a much older ring that was re-used as it appears to have quite a bit of wear to it. It has a band that still seems solid. This ring has a flat. 13mm x 13mm round bezel. Right in the center is an early Christian Chi Rho symbol that has the remains of an outlining ... moredecoration. The design was put on the ring sideways to make it easier to be used a seal ring to seal letters or documents. The labarum of the Roman army was a vexillium banner that displayed the"Chi-Rho" symbol. Formed from the first two Greek letters of the word"Christ" Chi and Rho, which look like an"X: and a"P" to us today. The Chi Rho was first used by the Roman emperor Constantine I towards the end of his reign but was more widely used by his son Constantine II.
