TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish Chronicles of The Celts by Iain ... moreZaczek. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover with Dust Jacket: 159 pages. Publisher: Sterling Publishing Company. Inc. 1997) The Celtic world. As it existing in three separate countries with a common spirit and tradition; Ireland, Wales, and Brittany, is brilliantly revealed in these exciting epic chronicles with 120 evocative photographs of artifacts, manuscripts, and landscapes that bring the Celtic world to life as never before. Ireland, land of ancient warriors who value nothing higher than fame and courage as they battle magical forces pitted against them. Ancient warriors whose deeds are as noble and mysterious as the hill forts and standing stones scattered around the landscape. Ancient warriors whose love of exaggeration and boasting compare with the most extravagant blarney. These are the Celts revealed by the early Irish chronicles. Wales. A land of bands and druids hemmed into a beautiful, mountainous country where King Arthur roamed with his knights. The Welsh warriors saw themselves as defenders of the west, heroes who would one day hurl the foreign oppressors back into the sea. These dramatic chronicles date back to the Middle Ages, but they are truly much older than that. They tell of love and betrayal, of quests and challenges, of supernatural creatures and of murder. Battling dragons. Tyrants, and sorcerers, the warriors of Brittany were people of the sea. Hermits, missionaries, mystics, they passed down their tales of mystery and magic orally through the centuries. They are captured here from a time when the old pagan days were dying out, and the secret, supernatural skeins of the early mystical Celts were quickly attaching themselves to a new religion. CONDITION: New hardcover w/dustjacket. Unblemished except VERY slight edge and corner shelfwear to dustjacket. Pages are pristine; clean. Crisp, unmarked, unmutilated, tightly bound, unambiguously unread.

Publisher: Random House; 1968) In this dramatic study of the beginnings of European history Jacquetta Hawkes considers the culture of Minoan Crete and Mycenaean Greece. Finding in their union the source of Classical Greek culture. The extraordinary discoveries of Sir Arthur Evans at Knossos and of Heinrich Schliemann at Mycenae are part of the theme, which touches on the Homeric epics, the fall of Troy, and the legend of the Minotaur. The Cretan bull-leapers, the snake goddesses, the gold“mask of Agamemnon” and many other works of art are illustrated and interpreted. The essentially feminine character of Minoan Crete. With its palaces and gardens and its exquisite paintings, sculptures and ceramics, joins with the essentially masculine vigor of the Mycenaean kingdoms in the splendor of Bronze Age Greece. The poetry of Homer is seen as an element of continuity between this legendary period, which saw the dawn of the gods of Greece, and the golden age of Classical Greece, which witnessed the dawn of our own era. Profusely illustrated with nearly two hundred color and monochrome photographs by the brilliant Greek photographer Dimitrios Harrissiadis, Dawn of the Gods” is an important book of profound interest as well as one of striking be

Upon his head he wears a galea which was a soldiers helmet made of bronze. He wears a metal armor around his torso over the knee-length tunic. A paludamentum falls down his back. Which is a cloak fastened to the shoulders usually worn by military commanders. At his feet are caligae which were heavy-soled sandals. His Right hand holds a spear against the ground as he looks far off into the distance. The handmade bronze sculpture was molded using the ancient method of lost-wax casting and stained with a green patina finish for preservation. It is mounted upon a variegated black marble base and is signed E.Drouot. The Art of Lost Wax Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years. Yet few people understand how the process actually works. Although mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The procedure is basically the same as that used by the Chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium BC. The Rubber Mold First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. This image is coated with a silicone rubber molding material that makes two rubber mold halves(each rubber mold has a front and a back piece) A fiberglass outer shell is added to the back of each mold so it retains its shape and rigidity during subsequent uses. These molds are the only components that are ever re-used in the casting process. All other components are re-created for each casting. The Wax Positive Once the molds are done. The insides are coated with layers of wax. The halves are then bound together and wax poured inside to complete the wax image being created

TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish The First Crusade by Steven Runciman. ... moreDESCRIPTION: Softcover: 201 pages. Publisher: Cambridge University Press; 2005) When Pope Urban II rose to his feet to address the multitudes gathered before him at the Council of Clermont in 1095 A.D. His appeal was simple: let Western Christendom march to the aid of their brethren in the East. Whether the Crusades are regarded as the most tremendous and romantic of Christian expeditions or the last of the barbarian invasions, they remain one of the most exciting and colorful adventure stories in history. The reasons for joining the Crusade varied widely; remittance from penance, a desire to see the Holy Places, or greed for the power and booty to be captured in the East. But the prize at the end of it all, be it spiritual or temporal, of the Holy City of Jerusalem. An army of mounted warriors. Traveling with peasants, merchants and artisans, faced a journey over hostile terrain, meeting with unforeseen antagonism, desert heat, and the constant struggle to feed and water their troops and horses. Their journey's spectacular culmination was the long siege of Jerusalem, at the end of which the Crusaders, by a brilliant tactical maneuver, broke down its defenses and poured into the city which erupted in a bloody massacre. Steven Runciman's"History of the Crusades" is justly acclaimed as the most complete and fascinating account of the historic journey to save the Holy Lands from the Infidel. This abridgement makes accessible to a wider readership one of the most compelling historical narratives. CONDITION: New oversized softcover. Unblemished except VERY slight edge and corner shelf wear to the covers. Pages are pristine; clean. Crisp, unmarked, unmutilated, tightly bound, unambiguously unread. Publisher: Wrens Park Publishing; 1999) Although there have been many books written about medieval women. Few have focused specifically on the lady. In a book designed as a companion to the author's previous book. The Knight in Medieval England. Professor Coss attempts to remedy this with a work which concentrates on the role of the lady within medieval society, how she was perceived both by herself and by her male counterparts, how she related to and participated within the seemingly prevailing male culture of gentility, how the lives of lords and ladies inter-related, and how they behaved towards one another. The author begins by introducing the issues to be discussed through the example of the Pastons of the fifteenth century. The origins of the English lady are then considered and her position. Status and image during the eleventh and twelfth centuries examined, highlighting both changes and continuities. The book then develops this theme by looking at the widening gentility in England during the succeeding centuries, especially as expressed through a variety of visual media. Employing a variety of sources. Including double monumental effigies, brasses, and surviving letters, Professor Coss opens to popular scrutiny the affective relations between lord and lady, before turning to antagonistic relationships. The Time Frame ... moreseries was released in the late 80's-early 90's. Each volume undertakes to describe the major events that happened in one specific time period in the development of mankind’s civilization(s) The volumes are richly illustrated. And designed as an introduction to the time frame covered. Especially compelling are the artists interpretations or recreations of what various ancient civilizations would have looked like– their architecture, homes, monuments, cities, daily life, jewelry, food, family life, dwellings, occupations, etc. As just one instance, the ruins of Babylon and Ur, Athens and Rome hint at the incredible richness of those fabled cities. The artist’s recreations in this series are simply mind-numbing. This is as close as you can be to actually having been there. The entire series is truly a magnificent introduction to the history of the era. If you could have just one book(or series of books) to introduce the history of humankind. This would have to be it. The overviews are concise and well-written. Together with the illustration and pictures they impart a wonderful mental and emotional“picture” of what life must have been like in various civilizations and at various times. Done in a style so wonderfully characteristic of Time-Life’s publications, these are over-sized“coffee table” type books full of impressive imagery. The pictures of the world’s greatest art and architecture alone are worth the cost of these books. But don’t get the impression that these volumes are“fluff” While a particular volume might not quite take the place as a university degree, the material is well-written, informative, and immensely intellectually gratifying, overview though it might be. This particular volume, Time-Frame 3000-1500 B.C. is sub-titled“The Age of the God Kings” The material is divided into a number of subjects which will give you an idea of the rich

Xlg Roman Anatolia (Turkey) Bronze Socketed 6 Inch Spear Point Oak Frame BC100
TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish Handsome Ancient Roman Bronze Spear Point Lapel Pin Oak Frame Plaque BC 100. CLASSIFICATION: Roman Bronze Socketed Spear Point Plaque. ATTRIBUTION: Roman Provincial Anatolia. First Century B.C. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Length: 147 millimeters. Breadth: 28 millimeters. Socket Diameter: 13 millimeters. CONDITION: Good. Cleaned and stabilized. Moderately heavy porosity(surface pitting, corrosion, oxidation caused by contact with earth while buried) as expected with any buried metal artifact, but integrity intact. Good finish. Professionally conserved. DETAIL: This is very handsome Roman bronze socketed spearpoint circa first or second century B.C. You can see there are some areas of corrosion due to the fact that the spearpoint ... morespent over two thousand years buried. Consequentially though the artifact is still more or less in one piece. It is nonetheless heavily oxidized. You can see that some of the socket has completely corroded away, and the blade edges of the spear are also oxidized. Unfortunately ancient metal, especially bronze and iron, tends to decompose in soil over the millennia. It is not too uncommon to unearth metal artifacts which are nothing more than crumbled stains within the soil(green for bronze, red for iron) You can sure see what was a metal artifact, but when touched it crumbles into the soil. Fortunately this bronze weapon was not unearthed in such an advanced state of decomposition. It obviously evidences considerably porosity, which kind of enhances its character, however the artifact is still fairly durable and relatively stable. Inasmuch as the spearpoint is too fragile to be worn or handled repeatedly. We mounted it onto this very handsome and interesting high quality open oak frame. The frame/plaque(approximately 12 x 10 inches) narrates a brief outline of the history of the Roman Empire, along with a very nice image of ruins dating from the Roman Empire, and a map

Publius Septimius Geta( March 7. 189– December 26. 211) Was a Roman Emperor co-ruling with his father Septimius Severus and his older brother Caracalla from 209 to his death.
