Size 8.75 Beautiful Stone. It's a nice deep shade and a great carving- intact. the carving may be deep enough to use as a was seal. This ring has a"925" mark inside the band. But the more interesting hallmark is on the outside of the band at the palm. I can't make it out, but it almost looks like a mountain and under the mountain, there are characters but I can only make out the last two that look like"85" or"B5" or"R5" It is sterling with a vermeil gold over it that has started to wear off a bit. On offer is this absolutely gorgeous Roman ladies gold finger ring. Set with a top quality ruby gemstone. This ring would date to the late 3rd- 4th century AD due to the shape of the band. Rubys were highly prized during the Roman period and commanded high prices through their elaborate trade network with the east. This ruby has been mounted into the ring without being engraved, cutting rubies for intaglios was extremley difficult due to the hardness of the stone, so most were simply chosen to display the vivid bright colour as this one has. Rare Conserved Roman Era Silver Zoomorphic Finger Ring Circa: 2nd Century
Genuine and original conserved European Roman Era(2nd Century AD) S ilver Alloy Zoomorphic Ring. The bezel of this rare example is formed from a trio of silver alloy strands cast as snakes, two serpent heads are observed with scale decoration seen. The ring has received light cleaning however. Most of the original silver oxide patina remains to the reverse of the bezel and frame. The zoomorphic bezel details are complete with the two snake heads remaining intact. Surface striation or scratch marks are observed and are in keeping with the age of the ring: UK size T. Conserved Roman Silver Gilt Ring Haunting Bezel Subject 2nd - 5th Century
Genuine and original fully conserved European Roman Era(3rd- 5th Century) copper alloy and Silvered ring. This ring is a bit of a mystery to me. It came within a larger collection of Roman material. However its nature or attributed deity is unknown. The bezel subject appears to me to show a stylized skull mask perhaps a death mask however, this is open to interpretation. The ring may have association with the Mithras Cult however; again this is by no way clear as that cult was largely associated with Sun God Sol and the Sacrificial Bull. The ring is of base metal core which has then been silvered. Three slight scratches on side- very unusual and haunting bezel design. Good patination details seen throughout particularly to the reverse- UK size V1/2.
