We are featuring today a terrific men’s cufflinks with matching tie clip that will perfectly accessorize any man’s crisply starched shirt and tie. The two cufflinks and the matching tie clip were manufactured using the intaglio engraving technique which an image is incised onto a surface and the incised line or sunken area holds the image. This set is made of goldtone metal. Vintage Man’s 14K Intaglio of the Roman God Mercury Ring size 12.0 Hematite
This listing is for a Large Vintage Man’s 14Kt Yellow Gold Ring with an Intaglio of the Roman God Mercury the God of Speed. Also known as the Roman God of trade and profit, merchants and travelers. The winged helmet is a divine item forged by Hephaestus for the messenger God Mercury or Hermes. The ring is large at a size 12.0 and it weighs 8.65 grams. The Intaglio is 15.66mm by 11.67mm or(0.62 inch by 0.45 inch) It looks to be carved from a fine piece of Black Hematite or it could be Black Onyx. It is unmarked but did test as 14Kt using an acid gold test. This is a really nice estate ring that dates from the 1940s and it is in Great Vintage Condition. It does have light surface scratches on the gold. Most of what you see in the photos of the intaglio is either dust or glare. The ring could use a good polish if you choose. A little bit about the maker of this fine ring: Uncas was founded in 1911 by Vincent Sorrentino. An Italian immigrant who came to America in search of opportunity and, ultimately, realized the American Dream. Uncas prospered because of its diverse product line and quality manufacturing. Vintage men's 10K gold ring with a carved hematite Intaglio of two Roman soldiers or Centurians done in golden brown and dark brown shades. You do not find double soldiers carved together very often. Probably the Art Deco style. The carving is a Real Nice quality. An extremely heavy and chunky ring weighing 16.59 grams total weight. as shown by the photos attached. Condition of the gold mounting is very good with light wear. Intaglio carving has problems with a small piece missing at one top corner and a larger one at the other. On offer is this superb red jasper intaglio depicting the god Hermes(Mercury) who was the messanger of the gods. He is shown in the classic pose of holding a money purse and caduceus wand in the other. The beautiful deep red colour of jasper was particularly fashionable in silver intaglio rings from the late 1st century AD. The subject of Mercury was very popular with merchants and businessmen(since by wearing his image one would be invoking the powers of the god to the wearer) This intaglio would date to the 2nd century AD. The black marks on the reverse are natural striations in the stone and not a crack. On offer is this Roman silver intaglio ring depicting Minerva(Athena) the goddess of wisdom and war. She is wearing a helmet. Whilst grasping a spear with one hand and holding her trusty Owl in the other. Her round Spartan shield rests up against her back legs. The carnelian gemstone intaglio is quite small, so the details have been cut with suggestive lines. Such a ring would have been worn by an officer or centurion serving within the Roman Legions. Minerva was much favoured amongst commanding officers, due to the effect of the wise planning she facilitated. Being the goddess of wisdom and war, she helped to make good strategic decisions, before and during battle. This silver ring is in excellent condition. Size 8.75 Beautiful Stone. It's a nice deep shade and a great carving- intact. the carving may be deep enough to use as a wax seal. This ring has a"925" mark inside the band. But the more interesting hallmark is on the outside of the band at the palm. I can't make it out, but it almost looks like a mountain and under the mountain, there are characters but I can only make out the last two that look like"85" or"B5" or"R5" It is sterling with a vermeil gold over it that has started to wear off a bit.
