We have for sale a reproduction of a legionaire's Helmet. It is a first century copy in steel with brass decoration. We were told that this helmet was used as a prob in the the movie'Centurion' but we have no provenance. but we do know that this is not a toy. The helmet is based on an original one found in Germany. The term"Imperial helmet" was coined by H. Russell Robinson. Who further sub-divided this main type into the two sub-types of"Imperial Gallic" and"Imperial Italic" They drew these names from their main manufacturers, rather than wearers- Robinson believed"Imperial Gallic" helmets(featuring a pair of distinctive embossed eyebrows on the forehead region and tending to be carefully made and elaborately decorated) were the products of Celtic craftsmen in Gaul whereas"Imperial ... moreItalic" helmets(lacking the eyebrows and somewhat more roughly made) were the product of less-skilled copycats in Italy and elsewhere in the Empire. These differences in decoration and workmanship tended to diminish as time went on; the last two Italic types classified by Robinson, the Hebron(Italic G) and Niedermörmter(Italic H) helmets, were as carefully crafted and well-decorated as any Imperial Gallic helmet. Imperial Italic D and E. The type D helmet was decorated with gilded motifs, yet appears to have been mass-produced. A second very similar cheek piece has been found, as well as a complete helmet(Imperial Italic E) which appears to have had the same style decoration, though most had been stripped off when it was discarded. Rare Early 1800's US Militia NCO Sword W/ Scabbard Roman Helmet Pommel
Here we have a nice original early to mid-1800's US state militia NCO sword. The condition is very good and complete. With no restoration or replacement parts.The grip is in nice condition with no chips and one non-structural crack that doesn't go to either end. The handle is a little loose, and the pommel moves a bit. The blade is in good condition with some light oxidation. The blade is not visibly marked. The gold wash has mostly worn off, but the brass has nice even warm patina. The scabbard is in very good condition with one short split in the seam towards the drag. The blade is 25" long to the inside of the shell guard, and the sword is 31½" long overall. The sword can be also picked up in Highland Park. NJ 08904. This is a beautiful STEEL Roman helmet with a red dyed horses tail for a plume. Most of the stock helmets were plastic- or resin. Very few were solid steel. This one is and has some weight to it. Also I have added a Roman soldiers Pugio sword. Very shiny as it is also steel- but has been chromed! Both items come with a VIP Auctions certificate of authenticity. But it looks like a Roman on a battlefield, with a Roman helmet on the ground. From a fallen warrior. The base is approximately 8" long. 3 1/2" deep and the statue is 9" high. It weighs 3 lb 11 oz. It's in good condition. I don't see anything broken. But the weapon held in the right hand is missing. The soldier. The horse and the rein are separate pieces. The only markings I see are on the bottom of the base: 1127" under a"K" in a circle.

This exceptional Roman helmet dates from the mid to late 1st century BC. Adorned with rare cast decoration. It is the finest example of the Mannheim type currently on the private market. Exhibiting a beautiful deep green patina. This stunning Roman legionarys helmet is constructed of hammered sheet, the dome with a small flanged brim front and back, and each side with two perforations for the attachment of leather cheek-guards, now long since perished. A separately cast figure of a Siren with outstretched wings, tender smiling features and parted hair is riveted to the front. When one pictures the Roman army. One envisages the brutally efficient military machine that swept aside the civilisations of the ancient world, from the cold forests of northern Britain to the desert sands of the Middle East. Yet this striking artefact has an aesthetic ... morenot just of power and dominance, but also of splendour and elegance. The siren adorning the front is apt, they were regarded as dangerous yet beautiful creatures, and so it is with this stunning piece; danger and beauty in equal measure. The Mannheim style of helmet is generally associated with the Roman army operating in the western areas of the Empire during the late Republican era through to the Flavian period.
