The gold frame is worked around the natural shape of the roman glass and is fit by hand to that shape so creating a UNIQUE piece of art work. THIS ARTIST IS STILLL WORKING TODAY USING THE CLASSIC 2.000 YEAR OLD YEMENITE TECHNIQUE. The roman glass fragment was part of a cosmetic vessel dating back to the roman period in Israel i.e 2nd.3rd. century AD. Antique 10K Gold Cameo. Roman Style, Flowers on Border. This older cameo is marked 10K on the hook of the clasp. It is a pale peach color carved with what could be a masculine face. And a flowing robe. It’s a less finely detailed piece than many, and the gold casing steps down to thin, flat border. There are small raised flowers at the top, right side and bottom. On the left side(think 9 o’clock) there is some irregularity. It looks as if the hinge was stressed and caused the flower in that location to flatten. This is a wonderful decorative piece, sadly the photo's just do not do this piece justice. The lithograph does not photo well, the two pictures nearest the end depict the coloring closely. The prior owner used tape on the back as some of the old nails were coming loose. Tape can be taken off and the nail appear to still be there so they can be put back in place.
