Severus Alexander 222-235 AD Struck 231-235 AD Reference: RIC 642 Sestertius. Bronze, 29 mm, 19.86 grams Obverse: Laureate bust of Severus Alexander right. ... moreInscription(clockwise from 8 o’clock) IMP ALEXANDER PIVS AVG Reverse: Providentia standing front. Head left, holding cornucopiae in right hand and ears of grain over modus in left hand, S on left, C on right, inscription(clockwise from 8 o’clock) PROVIDENTIA AVG This is an expensive coin type. Going for $500-$1000 in high grade. Of course, this is a lower-grade example, but that provides an opportunity for those on a budget to acquire an otherwise expensive coin at a bargain-basement price! I ship to United States only. I plan to list more coins in the next few days. So check back later for more if you are so inclined. You may also check the coins I listed in the last few days by clicking on"other items. I offer a lifetime guarantee of authenticity. I do not. Never have, and never will engage in shill bidding(a dishonest practice by which the seller or a proxy places phony bids to drive the price up) Some sellers try to justify shill bidding by saying that they need to protect themselves from losing money on the item, but that's the wrong way to do it. The right way to do it is that way that I do it-I set a minimum bid at the price below which I would lose money on the item, and from that point on, all the bidding is free and fair. I do not. Never have, and never will use deceptive photos that hide imperfections in the coin. I never touch up photos to hide imperfections, and I always take the most clear and accurate photos I can so that you get the best idea possible of how the coin actually looks, blemishes and all. If there is some weird thing that doesn't show up in the photos, I will put it in the description. Combined Shipping I do combine shipping. Items can be combined within the same calendar week. If you win more than one item. Whichever item has the highest listed shipping cost is the one you pay, and all the rest are free. In order to c

Here we have a pair of bronze Grand Tour figures of 2 Gladiators or Centurions, each with a different shield and sword in his hand. They each measure ... more5 1/2" tall and are in very nice condition with no flaws. The interesting thing about these is they must have been acquired, at some time, by 20th Century Fox as a movie prop. The prop number, #32-2-43829, is etched on the bottom of one of the two. We have tried to research this number but cannot ascertain in which movie these were used. Both for one bid. Shipping weight, well packed, is 2 1/2 lbs. Insurance has been added to the shipping cost as per Ebay's mandate. Please be sure to enlarge the photos for more detail and don't hesitate to ask questions. We are always happy to combine items to save you money on shipping.

Ancient Roman Celtic Thrace (Bulgaria) Bronze Jewelry Plaque Bronze Brooch AD200
Handsome Ancient Roman Bronze Jewelry Plaque AD 200. CLASSIFICATION: Roman-Celtic Bronze Brooch. ATTRIBUTION: Eastern Roman Empire(Thracia) Third Century A.D. DETAIL: A very handsome plaque containing the decorative fascia of a Roman bronze brooch. The design likely of Celtic inspiration. There remains portions of the pivot and clasp on the underside of the brooch, but the pin was broken out, as well as the hinge pivot pin as well. The piece is rather fragile and thin, so rather than add a new pin, it seemed best to mount it. The diameter of the brooch is 35 millimeters(almost 1 1/2 inches) and it weighs 3.07 grams. The style is quite characteristic of the Roman Empire’s first through third centuries. A popular style 2,000 years ago, today it is a recognizable and not uncommon find. However inasmuch as the pins used to attach the brooch to ... moreclothing tended to be very fine, they are generally not recovered intact, having decomposed/oxidized over the centuries, especially if(as often was the case) they were made of iron. You can clearly see the unmistakable evidence that the brooch spent two thousand years buried. Though the artifact is still more or less in one piece(excepting the pin) It nonetheless evidences moderately heavy porosity(surface pitting caused by burial in caustic soil) Unfortunately ancient metal, especially bronze and iron, tends to decompose in soil over the millennia. It is not too uncommon to unearth metal artifacts which are nothing more than crumbled stains within the soil(green for bronze, red for iron) Oftentimes in such circumstances you can see what was a metal artifact, but when touched it crumbles into the soil. Fortunately this bronze brooch was not unearthed in such an advanced state of decomposition. It obviously evidences considerably porosity(the fine surface pitting caused by oxidation) which kind of enhances its character, however the artifact is still intact. Jewelry was very popular in the Roman Empire. Rings. Earrings, pendants, and bracelets, fibulae, brooches
ANCIENT ROMAN BRONZE HORSES OF SAN MARCO, VENICE ITALY
The Horses of San Marco. Venice” Translated by John& Valerie Wilton-Ely. Published by Olivetti& The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1979. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The catalog to the exhibition of one of the four 2nd century bronze horses which have been part of the facade of St Mark's Basilica in Venice since the 13th century. The urgent need to clean and preserve the horses led to their being removed from their perch. And one of them being dispatched to the United States for a short tour. The catalog not only includes an exhaustive history and examination of the horses, their known history, and possible origins, but of related artwork from Venice of the early period. DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 8.5”x9.5” 245 pages, many black& white and some color illustrations. CONDITION NOTES: Minor wear. CLASSIFICATION: Ancient Roman Bronze Ring with bezel featuring engraved starburst and sculpted/shouldered bands. ATTRIBUTION: Eastern Roman Empire(Antiochia) Second Century A.D. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Fits ring size 9 3/4(U.S. Diameter: 21mm(outer diameter) 20mm x 19mm(inner diameter) Bezel: 22mm(breadth) 4mm(height) Tapered Width Band: 2 1/2mm(at bezel) 2mm(at sides) 2mm(at back) Weight: 1.18 grams. CONDITION: Very Good! Completely intact. Only very light wear evidenced. But heavy porosity(surface pitting caused by contact with earth while buried) Professionally conserved. DETAIL: A nicely crafted and fairly sophisticated ancient Roman bronze ring circa 150 to 250 A.D. As you can see. The design is thin, light, and quite elegant, and the ring ... moreis very handsome character. The"bezel" or center part of this ring depicts a starburst; a rather simple, almost stylized starburst which almost looks like a modern asterisk( To either side of the bezel are raised shoulders, created by building up the band on either side of the bezel. It gives the ring a sculpted look, and is a very handsome touch. The engraving is nicely executed. Starburst themes of one variety or another were a very popular geometric design during the first few centuries A.D. and the starburst design engraved into the surface of this bezel is done very nicely. Rather than the crudely attached separate bezel. The ring possesses an integral bezel, the bezel and bands fashioned from a single piece of bronze. The result is a ring which is very modern and distinctive in appearance, a classic and timeless design. The ring has a very nice patina, a medium bronze tone almost giving the appearance of ancient gold. The ring dates to the second century A.D. just as the Roman Empire was entering a protracted period of decay which would leave to several centuries of instability, leaving it teetering on the edge of its ultimately world

Rare ancient Roman soldiers bronze ring artifact patina legionary chevrons
s Roman bronze soldiers(5-6Cent.AD) Ring is in good condition and absolutely genuine. Origina l green-brown patina. Not cleaned. E xactly as pictured. Ring is in good condition and a Very Rare Inclusion to the very finest Antiquity Collection. In ancient times since banks did not exist. Soldiers would bury their coins and jewelry before going into battle, and many of them did not return. They were also buried to avoid tax collectors and thieves. In ancient times, a ring distinguished an individual in a way that other forms of jewelry did not. Finger rings represented the language of social code, and connoted one’s social standing. Under the Empire, the finger ring was still considered a privilege, conferred for military distinction. As time wore on and attitudes changed, the ring was more freely bestowed. Even so, the ring retained its position ... moreas a mark of dignity, as a rich ornament, as an important seal, and as a token of betrothal. Special caskets were created for holding rings, and it was customary to remove a ring from the casket, to place on the finger of a visiting guest welcomed into one's home. VERY VERY RARE ANCIENT SAMNITE BRONZE WARRIOR'S BELT,ROMAN,ETRUSCAN
A very.Very rare bronze warrior's armor belt, formerly part of the Axel Guttman collection and a provenenced antiquity. This was displayed in his museum in Berlin in the 1990's.Axel Guttman was a world class collector of antiquarian arms and armor and established a collection so very large that he constructed a museum to house it.Google Axel Guttman to learn more. This bronze armor belt dates to the 4th Century B.C.and is attributed to the Samnite Culture from north to central Italy. The Samnites were the sworn enemies of the Romans and had various forms of contact with the Etruscans,Romans, and Greeks in their occupation of the Italian penninsula. The Samnites nearly dominated the entire Italian penninsula removing the Etruscans and Greeks from southern and eastern Italy.Early in their conflicts the Samnites forced a humiliating defeat ... moreon the Romans at the Caudine Forks in 321 B.C.The bronze belt was a designation of a Samnite warrior's elevation to true manhood.I have included in my pictures, photographs from the Christies Axel Guttman Collection Part 2 of the auctions from his collections after his death. This was not in the Part 2 auctions but the bronze belt bears a label from his inventory listed as"AG R53"It measures 35" long x 3.25" wide. The belt has been broken into several sections and is mounted on a flat lucite slab. The two belt clasps have vanished from age though the pronounced belt holes are intact. This is a coup for an ancient weapons collector of a known and provenenced antiquity. I have been dealing in ancient arms and armor for 25 years. All of my inventory is unconditionally guaranteed to the original buyer.

Ancient Roman Bronze Legionary Eagle Brooch/Fibulae 1st Century AD
About The Roman Jewelry Apart from gold and other precious metals. Romans used glass to make their jewelry. Roman jewelry gives us an insight into the culture of this ancient country. Just like other ancient civilizations. Rome also had its distinct strata of social classes. In the Roman society, jewelry was worn for indicating the social status of a person and attaching pieces of clothing rather than beautification. Gold was used by the artisans and jewelers for carving the adornments and jewelry as it was believed to be the metal of the Gods and supposed to have descended from the sun. Other than gold, the materials used in jewelry making were bronze, Roman glass, bone beads and precious gemstones which were excavated from far off places like Persia, Far East, Indus Valley, etc. Diamonds, emeralds and sapphires found their way from the ... moresilk route to the Roman land to appease the rich and mighty of this civilization. About This Item This very impressive. Very rare piece of treasure portrays the Aquila, also known as an eagle in ancient Roman times. It is a solid bronze brooch/fibulae which bears a hole in the middle with the deepest carvings of its textured wings and tail. The pin at the back was lost in antiquity and only part of where it catches, remains. This treasure would have been worn with pride by a male legionary officer. An aquila. Or eagle, was the standard of a Roman legion. It was carried by a legionary known as an aquilifer, or eagle-bearer. One eagle was carried by each legion. The eagle was extremely important to the Roman military. Beyond merely being a symbol of a legion. A lost standard was considered an extremely grave occurrence, and the Roman military often went to great lengths to both protect a standard and to recover it if lost; for example, see the aftermath of the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, where the Romans spent decades attempting to recover the lost standard

179-169 BC EARLY Pre Caesar ROMAN REPUBLIC Bronze As, JANUS HEADS & PROW OF SHIP
179-169 BC EARLY Pre Caesar ROMAN REPUBLIC Bronze As. JANUS HEADS& PROW OF SHIP This is an As(Denomination) of the very early Roman Republic. It was struck sometime between 179 and 169 BC. At this time Rome was still in the process of subduing Spain. And the east was still ruled by the Seleucid. And Ptolemaic Empires. Macedon was still under a native King and while Rome had won the Second Punic War, Carthage still existed, and would continue to do so until it fought and lost the Third Punic War. Weight: 25.24 Gram. 34 Millimeter, Bronze. Roman Coins& Their Values. 2000 Edition, by David R. Sear#684. Obverse: Double Faced Head of the God Janus. Looking both ways. Janus: Janus was the God of beginnings and endings. Hence his image looks forward as well as backward. The first Month of the Year, January, is named after him. He was also ... morethe God of Gates, Doors and Doorways. When Romulus and his men kidnapped the Sabine women, Janus caused a hot spring to erupt, causing their would-be rescuers to flee. In honor of this, the doors to his temple were kept open during war time so that he could easily intervene. The doors were closed during peace. Given the Roman predilection for war and conquest, however, this was a rare occurrence. There is a coin of Nero showing the temple with the doors closed, Nero was boasting of bringing peace to the empire about the time he was feeding Christians to the lions and using them as torches for his garden parties. Reverse: Prow(front end) of a Roman War Galley over Waves. MA in monogram above prow. The Coin: A decent example for one of these.
