Real Roman Judaea Bronze Punch Dot Leech Bracelet 100AD
Heavy Genuine Ancient Roman(Province of Judaea) Bronze Leech-Style Bracelet With Punch Dot Design Circa 0-100 A.D. Mounted onto plaque or shadow box upon request(additional shipping charges apply) CLASSIFICATION: Roman-Judaean Bronze Bracelet. ATTRIBUTION: Eastern Roman Empire(Judaea) 1st Century A.D. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Outside Diameter: 78 x 72 millimeters. Inside Diameter: 67 x 61 millimeters. Opening: 30 1/2 millimeters. Band Width: 9 millimeters at top; 5 millimeters at bottom. Band Thickness: 8 1/2 millimeters at top; 4 millimeters at bottom. Weight: 54.63 grams. CONDITION: Fair. Quite substantial and well-constructed. Both ends of bracelet chipped off. Otherwise intact and of sound integrity. Moderately heavy porosity(surface pitting caused by contact with earth while buried) Professionally conserved. DETAIL: An intact fairly well preserved. ... moreHeavy Roman bronze bracelet circa 1st century A.D. from the Province of Judaea. The style, which was also very popular in earrings, is known as a“leech” style for obvious reasons(fat in the middle, narrowed at the ends, the shape does resemble a leech) As you can see(with some difficulty) the surface of the bracelet bears a fairly complex series of punch dot style decorative lines running parallel with the circumference on both sides of the bracelet. The bracelet is fairly large and would fit a lady of slim to medium build, or a man of very slender build, and with that caveat, is completely and eminently wearable. The bracelet is by and large intact. Though the trailing ends of each side were by the nature of the design quite thin and fairly fragile, and susceptible to loss through either breakage or corrosion. Both ends have been chipped off a bit, so rather than ends which nearly meet, or even overlap(common to the era) you have an opening much like a contemporary bracelet. As is ordinarily the case, the artifact exhibits some moderate porosity(surface pitting caused by burial in earth) Unlike so many smaller bronze artifacts which are completely
AD200 Roman Illyricum (Albania) Engraved Sculpted Starburst Bronze Ring Size 6¾
Size 6 3/4 Genuine Ancient Engraved Starburst Roman Bronze Ring with Sculpted/Shouldered Bands 200 A.D. CLASSIFICATION: Ancient Roman Bronze Ring with bezel featuring engraved starburst and sculpted/shouldered bands. ATTRIBUTION: Eastern Roman Empire. Provincial Illyricum(present-day Albania) Second or Third Century A.D. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Fits ring size 6 3/4(U.S. Diameter: 25mm x 19 1/2mm(outer dimensions) 18mm(inner diameter) Bezel: 10 1/2mm(diameter) 6mm(height/thickness) Fixed Width 3mm Band. Weight: 5.57 grams. CONDITION: Very Good! Completely intact. Evidence of modest wear in the ancient world; moderately heavy porosity(surface pitting caused by contact with earth while buried) Professionally conserved. DETAIL: A nicely crafted and fairly sophisticated ancient Roman bronze ring circa second or third century A.D. As you can see. The ... moredesign is quite sturdy, with heavy bands and thick bezel, and the ring is very handsome and masculine in character. The"bezel" or center part of this ring depicts a stylized starburst design(though it could be interpreted as a flower blossom as well) Starburst themes of one variety or another were a very popular geometric design during the first few centuries A.D. and the starburst design engraved into the surface of this bezel is done very nicely, and is of very uncommon character. It almost seems Celtic in character, somewhat abstract and stylized. To either side of the bezel are raised shoulders. Created by building up the band on either side of the bezel. It gives the ring a sculpted look, and is a very handsome touch. The heavy construction is of the more archaic style, characteristically made in two pieces; an incomplete ring(a“shank” with a separately crafted bezel which was brazed to the shank in order to assemble the ring. This as opposed to the more modern style of construction prevalent in the following centuries whereby the bands and bezel are integrated(fashioned from a single piece of metal) The ring has a very nice medium bronze ton

The history of the Roman world is an epic story which stretches out over the course of more than two millennia- the story of an small group of villages which went on to dominate a major part of the western world and was to substantially define its culture. It is obviously impossible to summarize the entire history within a few lines. However. Most chronologies distinguish between the following phases: Origins and Roman Monarchy(753- 509 B.C. A somewhat less familiar period, at the end of which ... moreRoman territory was only one small area, Latium, which remained threatened on all sides by Italic and Etruscan peoples. The Roman Republic(509- 27 B.C. paved the way for the institutions. Administration and organizational structures that were to sustain the force of Rome. By 264 B.C. Rome controlled the entire Italian peninsula. Its ambition would then be to dominate the Mediterranean. Following the destruction of Carthage in 146, this was achieved for the western part. Macedonia, allied with Carthage, was then defeated, and Greece was“liberated” from the Macedonians in 194. Rome occupied what is today the Turkish coastline. Julius Caesar was at the origin of the change which, within a few years(49-29 B.C. would change the Roman institutions into an empire which covered almost the whole of the Mediterranean shores, plus Gaul and present day Spain. The Roman Empire(27 B.C. 476 A.D. increased the grasp of Rome on the Western world even more so. However signs of crisis increase from 250 A.D. onwards. With the rise of new peoples who threaten the borders of the Roman empire. Within the empire, Christianity progresses and the Emperor Constantine converts to it in 32

He was the great nephew of Julius Caesar. It is because of this close tie to Caesar that Octavian had many political connections in Rome.Caesar had favored the young Octavius from a very early age. In 48 BC.When he was 15 years old, Caesar enrolled Octavius in the priestly college of the Pontifaces and into the hereditary Patrician class in Rome. Octavius also joined Caesar on a military campaign in Spain on 46 BC. Later, Octavius was sent by Caesar to Apollonia,in Greece, to finish his education. During his time in Apollonia, Octavius trained with Roman Legions who were stationed there at the time. Ancient Roman Bronze Ring with Flowing Incised Design
Ancient Roman Bronze Ring with Flowing Incised Design Description: Bronze ring with attractive random flowing incised design in center. Dark brown patina, slight earthen encrustation. Diameter: 14.9mm Size: US: 4; UK: H ½; Germany: 15; Japan: 7 Click to view supersized image The crafting and wearing of jewelry has been a unique trait exhibited by mankind from our early beginnings. Paleolithic items of adornment have been unearthed that date back 75.000-100,000 years. It is theorized that jewelry originated as a purely functional item used to fasten animal hides together allowing them to be worn as clothing. Findings suggest that jewelry making became more prevalent over 40.000 years ago as mankind migrated from Africa and the Middle East into continental Europe. Early necklaces and bracelets were made from readily available materials ... moresuch as bone, teeth, shells and stone strung together using twine from animal sinew or catgut. The forging of copper some 7.000 years ago allowed metal to be utilized as a material to craft jewelry. The smelting of copper and tin to make the alloy bronze heralded the advent of the Bronze Age some 5.000-6,000 years ago. It is conceivable that metal workers used their knowledge of metallurgy to craft items of adornment as well as tools and weapons. Jewelry has served(and continues to serve) three basic roles. As an ornament it attracts attention and could be used as a testament to hunting prowess or more general attributes. As an amulet holding supernatural power it protected the wearer against physical harm. Warded off evil and healed ailments. As society evolved it also became a symbol of wealth or social standing. Rings were extremely popular among the Romans. Their faith in the curative and protective powers attributed to some stones(as well as shapes and images) provided additional incentive to wear these amulets on their fingers. There were certain rules in the fashion of rings that were strictly observed. Plain bronze and signet rings were worn on either hand while rings se

ANCIENT ROMAN BRONZE CHAINMAIL - LORICA HAMATA
Circa 1st-3rd century AD. Fragment from an ancient Roman bronze chainmail. Lorica Hamata. A rare find. Length: 83 mm. Cf. Roman Military Equipment by M. C. Bishop& J. C. N. Coulston, pg. 139, lot 4. Mail was invented some time in the mid 1st millennium BC. But it is unknown where and by whom it was first used. It may have been invented independently in Japan and in Europe. The earliest finds are from a 5th century BC Celtic chieftain's burial located in Ciumesti, Romania. The Greek term, cataphract, came to be associated with heavy cavalry(as opposed to light mounted archers) The Roman Republic first came into contact with mail fighting the Gauls in Cisalpine Gaul, now Northern Italy. The Roman army adopted the technology for their troops in the form of the lorica hamata which was used as a primary form of armor, through the Imperial ... moreperiod where it was used alongside the lorica segmentata. The use of mail was prominent throughout the High Middle Ages, and reached its apex in the 13th century, when full body suits of mail armor were developed. Several patterns of linking the rings together have been known since ancient times, with the most common being the 1-to-4 pattern where each ring is linked with four others. The term is used to describe the Roman state during and after the time of the first emperor, Augustus. The 500-year-old Roman Republic, which preceded it, had been weakened and subverted through several civil wars. Several events are commonly proposed to mark the transition from Republic to Empire, including Julius Caesar's appointment as perpetual dictator(44 BC) the Battle of Actium(2 September 31 BC) and the Roman Senate's granting to Octavian the honorific Augustus(4 January 27 BC) Roman expansion began in the days of the Republic, but the empire reached ... moreits greatest extent under Emperor Trajan: during his reign the Roman Empire controlled approximately 6.5 million km2 of land surface.
