GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. But generally is in very good condition. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago. Every object we sell online has been carefully hand-selected with special attention to detail. Quality, and significance. We ship worldwide. Dogs were revered and respected in ancient Mexico's Indian culture. The"Colima Dog. a distant relative of the Mexican Hairless and the Chihuahua, may have been a pet, or it may have been fattened for eating- or both! Among the early colonial immigrants, a Jesuit Priest, Sahagún, examined and wrote of the things concerning the"new" lands of America. Regarding these dogs of Colima, which are generally portrayed as quite fat, even grotesquely so, but many of which have happy faces, he says, The dogs of this land have four names, called: Chichi, Itzcuintli, Xochiocoyotl, Tetlamin; and also tehuizotl… They raise other dogs that they call Xoloitzcuintli with no hair at ... moreall… There are other dogs that are called tlalchichi, short and round, that are very good to eat" It is believed that the hairless dogs. The Aztecs believed that in order for the souls of the dead to reach"Mictlan" they had to cross the black river"Apanoayan" as well as overcoming other obstacles, and these hairless Xoloitzcuintlis had the task of guiding their human masters across this river, along with helping them overcome all the other difficulties on the journey. It is said that these red-colored dogs became the chosen guide because for a black dog to the perform the task, it was found to be difficult to distinguishing its black shape on a black river, in the murky underworld. When a white dog was approached as a substitute, that dog refused because it didn't want its coat soiled by the dark waters. The red dog then stepped up to the task and performed it well. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Pottery Animal Effigy Vessel artifact art COA
This is a really cute llama effigy or incense burner Pre Columbian pottery vessel made by an ancient Mexico region culture. The Jalisco culture, dating from 200BC to 300AD. It has really nice shape and geometric patterns on it. There is fading of the paint and glaze but you still can make them out and the red slip, is strong. Large chimney makes me think maybe used as incense vessel, but it was entombed and buried at some point. Lots of good manganese deposits and maybe root markings. I think it is a llama. House trained and requires little feeding. Animal figures can be very adorable and this is one of them. Great glaze and color intensity. PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR POLYCHROME HEAD FRAGMENT AUTHENTIC 4 1/2 " POTTERY
PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR FRAGMENT HEAD POLYCHROME ANCIENT This is an authentic(not a reproduction) ancient pre columbian polychrome head fragment from Ecuador. In close inspection there are traces of black manganese deposits and what appears to be tiny crystals in the clay. These are so small you almost need a jewelers loupe to see them but they reflect in the light. The clay is a yellowish color with original red paint on the face and one side. The top of the head is arched backward as you can see from the side view. It is missing the long piece of what appears to be a headdress on the right side but the rest of the head seems in excellent condition. There is a hole in the top of the head on the edge still with soil in it and you can see the debris still in the mouth and eyes. The head is hollow. It measures 4 1/2 inches over the top of the ... morehead to the chin. 2 3/4" across the crown with the face itself is 2 x 1 1/2" The opening on the underside allows the figure to be suspended and mounted. It is suspended i on a lucite stand only to display and photograph it in the upright position as it will not stand on its own. The nose has a long rounded cut underneath that seems intentional as I have other figures with the nose the same making the it protrude. This appears to be a female head with earrings. It is very three dimensional when viewed from the side with heavy lidded yes. I am not an expert and cannot positively identify the culture but it was in a private collection with La Tolita fragments. La Tolita was in Northern Ecuador between 300 B.C.and 200 A.D. in the Period of Regional Development. Please free to ask questions and look carefully at my photographs for details.

Ancient Pre Columbian Proto Classic Nayarit Pottery Warrior Figure - 100 BC
A large and imposing ancient pre-Columbian Nayarit terracotta figure of a warrior. Dating to the Proto-Classic period, 100 BC– 250 AD. The standing male figure is shown naked. Coloured with a deep ochre pigment and wearing only a series of arm rings, prominent belt and pointed cap. Supported on enormous claw-like feet, the broad, square torso imbues him with the physical makeup of a warrior. One arm is raised brandishing a club, the other extended slightly forward and bent at the elbow, holding a small shield. The head is marked by sunken almond eyes, a prominent nose and parted lips revealing large grinding teeth. The ears and nose are pierced with multiple rings, a painted necklace is also present. The staring eyes are disturbing and discordant. Yet almost impossible to tear away from. An overpowering wrath bleeds from the very fabric of ... morethis striking warrior. There is something visceral in his bearing, defying reason, he appears in a seemingly trance-like fury, speaking to a very ancient place inside our psyche. Nayarit figures form part of the mysterious shaft tomb culture of ancient western Mexico. Displaying all aspects ancient life, from ritual ceremonies to grand feasts, warriors to simple family scenes. While the subject matter was relatively consistent throughout the entire region, style distinctions are present. This figure is of Nayarit's Ixtlán del Río style, the westernmost of all Nayarit sites, which is characterized by highly stylized facial features and thick, stocky limbs. Little is known about ancient Nayarit life beyond these enigmatic figures and the society itself remains a mystery. The discordant facial expressions of figures such as this have in some quarters been advanced as evidence of shamanism. Haunting and intense. Their true identity remains lost in the distant, unknown past. Height: 27 ½ inches. Condition: Very good. Minor restoration throughout, including to right arm and foot, one toe missing(as shown) head reattached. Beautiful pigment preservation, overall goo
Ancient Pre - Columbian Chancay Culture Pottery Llama Vessel - 1200 AD
A published and exhibited pre-Columbian(Chancay culture) earthenware figure in the form of a llama. Dating to 1000- 1435 A.D. This hollow figure of a llama stands on four stubby legs. With the large egg shaped body acting as a humorous counterpoint to the undersized head. The doe eyed facial expression conveys a sense of almost child-like naivety, the ears have been pierced and would likely have been further decorated in antiquity. Most Chancay vessels display an elementariness of form and the seemingly spontaneous application of painted decoration as shown in this piece. Though its specific purpose is now a mystery. It is possible that such vessels were made as toys for children. Little is known of the Chancay society. But evidence indicates that it represented a small regional state made up of several ethnic groups inhabiting the coasts, ... moredesert lands and valleys of central Peru between 1000-1435 A.D. The Chancay are best known for their astonishing and unique craftsmanship that valued a high level of personalisation in decorative style. Producing woodworks. Textiles and ceramics, Chancay style artefacts are prevalent across central Peru. This enigmatic society traded their goods widely with other regions either by land towards the Peruvian highlands and jungle or by sea to the north and south of their borders. As such, though the society does not appear to have wielded significant political power, the skill of their craftsmen appears to have been respected and admired. The artisan who produced this piece would have been under the control of the local kuraka(clan leader) Who regulated the production activities of the various specialists, farmers and festive activities within his community. A charming piece of pre-Columbian art. Condition: Very good. Some minor restoration to right hind quarter. It has been perforated in the middle of the back during antiquity. This piece bears its original inventory sticker on the base. Length: 14 1/4 inches. Exhibited: The City Art Centre. Edinburgh, Scotland August 15th,

A rare and very unique Moche IV pottery skull bottle/vessel/head artifact that is very unusual. It has sunken eyes and teeth in mouth with a cranial protrusion representing the head of a dead person that may return from the dead. It has a stirrup type handle with spout and a very bizarre countenance but it is most interesting even if eerie. Painted with black outlines on lips and striped and triangular designs on forehead. Ears done in white. I don't know the meaning of the lump on the forehead but maybe the poor fellow was hit with a club. He seems happy enough. A really ingtriuing piece for the collector. Inca Treasures LTD 19 Pre Columbian pottery spindle beads artifacts vessel art
This is a wonderful set of nineteen Pre Columbian pottery stone artifact beads strung together. Seventeen are on the tie and 2 smaller whorl beads are free from another collection giving 19 beads. They are from Western Mexico but the two conical shaped are likely Peru beads. They have great patterns. Color and deep decorations on them. Great pieces for making more ornate necklaces or just to enjoy. Spindle or whorl beads were used on spindle sticks to enhance the spinning speed of making yarn out of the alpaca wool. They may have been used decoratively for other purposes. Stones like these are still often used in the Andean mountain villages or small Mexican villages where the Indigenous people still make their own yarns. I have seen them doing this in Cotacachi. Ecuador, for example. Exceptionally nice size and detail for bead collection ... moreand a great set for the collector of Pre Columbian pottery art and necklaces. Culture: Western Mexico culture. Size: average is 1inch to 1 1/2 inches with some smaller. CA: 100BC-250AD. Provenance: purchased from an online collector's collection. Authenticity with lifetime guarantee by Inca Treasures LTD. Inca Treasures antique Pre Columbian pottery vessel artifact antiquity art bowl
A very unique and unusual Pre Columbian style pottery artifact with a village specific design. Different old villages in Mexico have produced design patterns unique to their villages and often the village can be identified by the pattern. This coffee bean design matches another that I purchased online from a different unrelated source and both have this design. The only two pieces like this I have seen. I researched this and it appears to be the same pattern and is old and from a village in Mexico. These patterns may endure for years. This is an antique piece and is in shape of a vessel or offering dish with a raised pedestal off a smaller rim at the bottom. The pattern of this and the other Pre Columbian style both have strong color with a coffee bean motif. I am not exactly certain of the age and my estimate is it is from the mid 1850s ... moreto early 1930s. The two dishes make a nice twosome if bought together. The other vessel is a bowl on my site. Folk art piece from Mexico. Nice piece for collector of pre Columbian pottery or folk art pottery art. Culture: Mexico. CA: approx. 1950 to 1930s. Size 61/2 in diameter at top and 6 inches high. Please view pictures and ask questions. See my other Pre Columbian pottery. Vessel artifacts art and unique gifts. Inca Treasures.

Pre-Columbian Mayan Aztec Pottery Figure/Figurine Artifact(Reproduction?) Look
Offering what may be a reproduction of a Pre-Columbian Mayan or Aztec pottery figure/figurine. But I'm not certain of this. You see, there are pock marks and raised pumps in some places on this piece, but I also recall seeing a show about Pre-Columbian pottery figures on National Geographic where there was mention that making molds from existing figures and then making more figures with those molds was not completely unheard of with the Mayan and Aztec peoples, and it was actually a common practice to help the artisans save time and energy. That is how I remember it, and I have a good memory, but you'll have to do your own research on this one. He does look old, for what that's worth; please see all images. He measures 7 inches high at the top of his headress by 3.5 inches across at his headress by 2.5 inches across at his arms ... moreby 2.26 inches deep at his arms, and he weighs right at 1 lb, 4 oz's. His right foot is missing, there is a small, shallow chip to the left side of his nose and there are a few small scratches and scuffs, here and there. I can not guarantee the authenticity of this piece, so I'm starting the auction off with a low opening bid, and no reserve. Please email me with any questions. Thanks for looking, and enjoy the auction.

Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Nicoyan trichrome pottery vessel art artifact COA
Very interesting Pre Columbian pottery vessel art with serpentine legs and serpent faces rimming the top of the vessel though the faces almost look simian. Colors still strong but they are still strong. there are areas of paint thinning minor pitting of paint and uneven glazing such as black clouding of vessel. I purchased this from Artemis Gallery and it comes with a COA. A kind of unusual pattern from Nicoyan area of Costa Rica. Interestingly the COA from the original buyer comes with this as well. Pre Columbian reproduction Muisca double jar pottery artifact Art vessel
This interesting piece is a Pre Columbian reproduction of a Muisica double jar effigy vessel complete with aging appearance including manganese deposits. It is a fairly large item. Solid and rather heavy. The color and markings are intense making it a great show piece. I purchased this and a few others that are made by modern artists doing Pre Columbian style vessels. This even has mineral deposits scattered over it. I like a few of these from the artistic standpoint and I can get nice Pre Columbian decor for much less than original that are artistically done. I have priced it as a reproduction well done. The Muiscas were a more loosely organized confederation of peoples than say. The Incas, Aztecs, or Mayans with pottery starting about 1500 BC. PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR POTTERY FIGURE JAMACOAQUE AUTHENTIC
PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR POTTERY FEMALE FIGURE JAMACOAQUE This an authentic pre columbian figure from Ecuador from a private collection and not a reproduction. It is a light beige clay color with remaining blue paint highlights on the headdress. It is a female figure with a knee length skirt standing on bare feet. The body is adorned with a large necklace and remenents of bracelets and there is a nose ring and what appears to be multiple ear plugs or earrings. The headdress has both long side lappets which most often are broken. It is missing the lower part of one arm and has some damage to the fingers of the outstretched hand. There is also damage to the toes on the inside of one foot foot. Not evident from the front is a small cavity behind one ear. The figure appears to be completely solid with no firing hole. Very nice condition with no ... moredamage to the body. This is nice vertical figure that stands by itself. It measures 6 1/2 inches high and 3 inches across the shoulders. The feet are 2 x 1 3/4 inches allowing the figure to stand upright without support. i am not an expert but believe this is Jamacoaque.
PRE COLUMBIAN AUTHENTIC ECUADOR OWL BIRD POTTERY FIGURE
PRE COLUMBIAN OWL FIGURE FROM ECUADOR A rather realistic pottery owl figure. Authentic pre columbian and not a reproductionl. From a private collection. It measures 4 inches high and is 2 1/4'inches across the chest. There is a 1/2 inch hole in the top of the head that seems to large for a firing hole and may suggest this is some kind of container. There are also two larger round circles on the back that suggest the possibility of a handle. The figure is hollow from the top to the bottom. It is free standing and has the head looking at a downward angle. Very detailed eyes and beak with two circles on each side of the head suggesting something is missing. It has two complete wings but part of the tail is missing as well as a portion of the feet. The color of the clay is light tan all over with scattered deposits. There is also a small ... morecrack under the base of the tail n the back. Even with this damage the figure is quite complete and in one piece with no repairs. It was in with La Tolita and Jamacoaque fragments but I cannot possitively identify the culture as I am not an expert.

Small Pre Columbian ? Primative Fertility Artifact ? Pit Fired Pottery
Small Estate Piece. I do not know it's history. I have shown it to a few people. Some of whom thought that it was ancient, and some thought it was a 1930-40's reproduction. It looks and feels very old to me. It is only about 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" and weighs 6.4 grams. It is like a small love potion vessel. Looks like at sometime there may have been a string tied about the top. May have been worn around the neck. What I do know for sure: This is a piece of tiny old pit fired potter. I so not clean old pieces. So there are marks on the pieces that might wash off. Please note small imperfections shown in pictures. I only accept returns on items accidently misrepresented. If you have any questions please ask before bidding. PayPal only.

PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR FIGURE POTTERY BIRDMAN SHAMAN JAMACOAQUE AUTHENTIC
PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY FIGURE ECUADOR JAMACOAQUE Very unusual authentic pottery ploychrome figural depiction of a birdman or Shaman. The figure is wearing a feathered costume taking on the image of a bird. The head has a headdress with long side lappets that are not broken. He is wearing a nose ring and a necklace with a pendent that hangs over a feathered vest. The ornate wings have rectangular decorations that seem to have faces in them. There are no visible arms but there are human feet. The figure measures 3 1/2 inches tall and has a wingspan of 4 inches. It stands perfetly flat with the head bent slightly forward looking down. It needs no support to stand as the feet are flat. There is one hole in the base. The back is un decorated and has a broken tail. In spite of the damage the majority of the figure is in excellent condition with ... moreno cracks and nice detail. Some slight rough edges on the top of the head that does not alter the shape. Terra cotta color clay with red and turquoise paint. Jamacoaque 500 A.D. to 1000 A.D. This is not a reproduction and is from a private collection.
PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR AUTHENTIC POTTERY FRAGMENT ANIMAL OR SHAMAN HEAD
PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT ECUADOR Very unusual authentic pottery head fragment that is difficult to identify as to the subject. It apprears to be an animal with a long snout. Some of which is missing, and the remains of two horns on the back of the head. Since it is wearing a rather ornate headdress it might be an zoomorphic representation of a Shaman but there is not enough of the figure to make any kind of distinction. The headress has the remains of red paint and there are pieces missing. The cheeks are puffed out, some of the figures have puffed heeks attributed to chewing of coca leaves but that is doubtful for an animal and possible or a Shaman. The clay color is mottled grayish tan. Some fine crystaline deposits evident in the clay. One cheek is depressed as it it were done before firing or collapsed after firing as it is ... morenot broken. There is a small firing hole at the top of the head and the head is hollow. It is 2 3/4 inches high and 2 3/4 inches across the front. The base where it is broken is a circle 1 3/4 inches in diameter with a hole that is 3/4 inches in diameter. It will sit flat as it is in most of the photographs or will mount nicely. It was in a private collection from Eccuador with La Tolita and Jamacoaque fragments but since I am not an expert I cannot positively identify the culture or the exact age. These two cultures span from 300 B.C. to 1000 A.D. This is not a reproduction.

c.250-900 AD ancient pre Columbian pottery MAYAN MASKETTE from bowl or pot
This pre-Columbian pottery shard or maskette is from the Mayan culture and measures 2 1/4" high x 1 1/2" wide and would have originally been attached to the rim of a Mayan human effigy pot. If you collect early pottery from Central America then this inexpensive but attractive 1.400 year old Mayan maskette will look great in your display and will always get a big smile by any of your guests you show it too! c.250-900 AD ancient pre Columbian pottery MAYAN BOWL w/lug handles
This pre-Columbian pottery vessel is from the Mayan culture and has a diameter of approx. 8" and is 2" high. This example originally had two lug handles with finger depression on each side though this example is missing the one lug handle and has one rim shard missing. Dating c.250-900 AD. This example is the typical"poor mans" version since some Mayan bowls can be quite extravagant in style and workmanship. Condition: one lug handle is missing and the other has a chip; one large rim shard was glued into place and one 1 1/2" section of rim is missing; 5-6 minor rim nicks; overall about 95% intact and a nice example of a Mayan bowl. PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR HEAD FRAGMENT POTTERY JAMACOAQUE AUTHENTIC
PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT JAMACOAQUE This is a very expressive piece of authentic Pre Columbian pottery with a very realistic face almost Grecian looking. Very heavily lidded eyes in a peaceful expression. The figure is wearing a headdress that is more like a cap over the hair with decorative earrings that have deep notches with some remaining red paint. Hopefully these are not the ears. It looks like button earrings in front and the figure has a nose ring and a lip plug. The back shows the remains of part of a necklace. It measures 2 1/2 inches high and will stand upright by itself as the circular base with a hole in it is flat. The head is hollow and has evidence of heavy black mineral deposits on one side. Basic clay color is a gray beige. There are also traces of red paint on the face. Keep in mind that this is not a ... moreburnished surface and the texture is rough and the close up photos are to show condition. At a regular viewing distance the head seems more normal looking and the condition is very good with very little damage and no repairs. It is from a private collection and is Jamacoaque culture.

Mayan pottery tripod bowl art pottery pre-columbian head legs
I am just not sure where to begin with this great bowl. First let me start out by saying that I am not an expert. Or even a novice when it comes to this kind of art. I purchased the footed bowl from a local estate sale of a person who was a huge collector. The house was filled with amazing art of all kinds. I really liked the bowl, but unfortunately, the remaining family had no information on it. I would describe the bowl as a Mayan tripod bowl. I have seen this style described as pre-columbian. However, I think that refers more to age than style. And I do not know the age of this bowl. It is painted with Aztec type designs, and is beautifully done. The feet of this bowl are just amazing. They are these great. Well defined and shaped heads and faces. Overall the bowl measures 8 7/8 inches wide and 3 1/4 high. The heads are 3 1/2 inches from ... moreear to ear. No damage or cracks noted. Please email with questions or comments. I am always learning from nice Ebayers who share their wealth of knowledge. I will add insurance to this at my expense when shipping. 1.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp73%28b0g%60%60%3E1-1471fb74b8c-0x114-

Thank You& Happy eBaying from all of us at RIICS Inc. I recently was able to acquire a wide variety of quality antiques and art from a local Providence. East Side home. We we consigned paintings, sterling, and even some 17th century Jacobean furniture, but one of the ... moremore interesting items was the very large early Native American Pottery Pot in this auction. The owner said that it was originally bought in Arizona. Measuring 16 ½ inches in diameter by 18 inches tall, this very large pot is Pre-Columbian. I have done some research on the internet and although this pot is not Anasazi, it is definitely by one of the other early American Tribes. This large pot has a red glaze around the 9 ¼ inch diameter rim. The inside is unglazed and the outside has a very fine spiraling textured design, which was cared with a stick before it was fired. The blotchy surface to this pot is original and I believe it is part of the original decoration. I don’t believe this pot was ever used on a fire, as there is no evidence of burning. If you look closely just under the rim, you will see several dark spots that were definitely applied. I am far from an expert on Arizona Pre Columbian Pueblo Pottery, but after searching the net I am sure that this huge example is very important. The only problem is the large break you see on the rim. This break looks like it happened in the 20 th century. As there is no wear to the edges or any toning to the pottery. It d
