PRE COLUMBIAN ECUADOR POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT JAMACOAQUE This is a very expressive piece of authentic Pre Columbian pottery with a very realistic face almost ... moreGrecian looking. Very heavily lidded eyes in a peaceful expression. The figure is wearing a headdress that is more like a cap over the hair with decorative earrings that have deep notches with some remaining red paint. Hopefully these are not the ears. It looks like button earrings in front and the figure has a nose ring and a lip plug. The back shows the remains of part of a necklace. It measures 2 1/2 inches high and will stand upright by itself as the circular base with a hole in it is flat. The head is hollow and has evidence of heavy black mineral deposits on one side. Basic clay color is a gray beige. There are also traces of red paint on the face. Keep in mind that this is not a burnished surface and the texture is rough and the close up photos are to show condition. At a regular viewing distance the head seems more normal looking and the condition is very good with very little damage and no repairs. It is from a private collection and is Jamacoaque culture.

PRE COLUMBIAN POTTERY HEAD FRAGMENT ECUADOR Very unusual authentic pottery head fragment that is difficult to identify as to the subject. It apprears ... moreto be an animal with a long snout. Some of which is missing, and the remains of two horns on the back of the head. Since it is wearing a rather ornate headdress it might be an zoomorphic representation of a Shaman but there is not enough of the figure to make any kind of distinction. The headress has the remains of red paint and there are pieces missing. The cheeks are puffed out, some of the figures have puffed heeks attributed to chewing of coca leaves but that is doubtful for an animal and possible or a Shaman. The clay color is mottled grayish tan. Some fine crystaline deposits evident in the clay. One cheek is depressed as it it were done before firing or collapsed after firing as it is not broken. There is a small firing hole at the top of the head and the head is hollow. It is 2 3/4 inches high and 2 3/4 inches across the front. The base where it is broken is a circle 1 3/4 inches in diameter with a hole that is 3/4 inches in diameter. It will sit flat as it is in most of the photographs or will mount nicely. It was in a private collection from Eccuador with La Tolita and Jamacoaque fragments but since I am not an expert I cannot positively identify the culture or the exact age. These two cultures span from 300 B.C. to 1000 A.D. This is not a reproduction.

Ancient Pre Columbian Colima pottery Dog - 200 BC
A fine. Large Protoclassic burnished terracotta Colima dog figure, from the Colima culture, dating to approximately 200 BC- 200 AD. Exhibiting a beautiful dark red colour. The plump beast stands on squat. Bent legs, with large round pot-belly, short, erect tail, pricked ears and exposed teeth. The head of the creature fashioned into a spout with everted lip, revealing the piece to be a particularly elaborate vessel. The enigmatic Colima dog figures were produced in what is now Mexico from the 3rd Century BC. Dogs were considered to be useful on one's inevitable journey to the underworld and were therefore placed with the deceased as trusty companions. Length: 13 inches. Height: 10 1/2 inches Condition: Good condition. Remains of black pigment. Including u-shaped motif on the neck of the spout. Minor restorations including ear, lip of ... morespout, and three of the legs. Provenance: From the collection of Mr S. Seeger. Mr Seeger was a well-known art collector with a keen eye and ample financial means. This piece was exhibited. Along with other examples of his Pre-Columbian art, at Princeton University in 1961. The following quote is from the exhibition catalogue, scans of which can be provided to the new owner upon request: Especially choice. Real Pre-Columbian Terracotta Pottery Figural Shaman Mayan Aztec Inca Mexico NR!
I am in the process of moving. We are downsizing and I will be selling a large portion of our collection to free up space and also get some much needed cash. Here we have an authentic Pre-Columbian Turtle Effigy Bowl. You can tell by the age of the repair on top that this is an incredibly old piece of Pre-Columbian history. The turtle is incredibly lifelike and proportioned wonderfully with the bowl. The ridges on the shell match those on the bowl edge. Giving a very complete look to the piece. It measures approx. 12.5cm tall and approx. 14.5cm in diameter at the top of the bowl. Pleasure view photos and ask any questions prior to bidding. Sold with no reserve. Shipping will be $19.58. Thanks. And check out my other interesting finds!
Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Jalisco pottery, figures artifacts, art, COA
Great pre Columbian seated couple in two figures. This is a wonderful pair seated together with stoic poses. Jalisco couples are rare to fid and great collectors items. I purchased them from Minerva Gallery that sells Pre a Columbian art and other lovely antiquities and they are authentic. They come from an old culture in Western Mexico. I am not sure what could have happened to the man's right shoulder. Possibly he is deformed but likely it represents a style of Jalisco anatomical depiction or it shows the problems with body proportion seen in much Pre Columbian art. Culture: Jalisco. A lovely piece of Inca art with a bichrome stirrup vessel figure of a beggar drinking. Great coloring still though there some scratches and variations in color and glaze. No cracks I can see and the colors are still vibrant. The bottom is very dark I believe from the firing. May have been a ceremonial. Burial or effigy artifact. A tribute to a poor man. Inca Treasures Ltd Pre Columbian bead, necklace artifact stones, pottery, art
Beautiful necklace made from authentic pre Columbian stones. Earrings matched to go. The stones seem to possibly be Mayan but I am not certain of the culture. The bottom three in photo are all carved with design but two are flipped over in picture so only one seems to be decorated. Just turn it over. This is a wonderful set combining ancient stones with modern items for a wearable piece. All are authentic pre Columbian stones and made for wear. Terrific conversation piece. This is from a collection distributed by Inca Treasures LTD called Encore by Design: Wearing History. They are designer beads combining new and ancient elements meant to be worn now. All restrung with strong fish line and new clasp. Designer Elaine Teevens. At The Bead Corner, Monument, Colorado. Now you can be a young artifact yourself. This is an elegant one of a kind ... moreset by a renowned local artist. A fabulous creation. Watch for more Encore postings to come. Length approximately 15-18 inches. Inca Treasures Ltd Pre Columbian pottery bead, wearable necklacde, artifact art
Handsome arrangement of antique native clay beads with a pre Columbian stone pendant. This is another combination of old and new together for a sharp wearable piece. The other spacers and restrung clasps are all new as is the cord. The stones are lovely pastel shades and easy to look at with a simply stated elegance. The colored clay stones are probably North American. About 1-200 years old and the stone is Pre Columbian, but I don't know the culture but likely 500-1000 years old. Created and designed by Elaine Teevens of the Bead Corner. Monument Colorado. We offer a piece by Encore by Design; Wearing History. See the others and more will be posted soon. This is a great piece of rare Chimu art with two birds looking over their shoulder. There appears to be a tiny monkey sitting against the spout. Authentic piece of Pre Columbian pottery vessel with unusual form. Good condition with the usual surface scratches. There is a small 1 inch chip or crack behind one bird' swing but not full thickness. The black ware seems enhanced by a brownish tint in places on the glaze. Great collectors item from Peru. The Chimus came along just before the Incas and were defeated by the Incas but left wonderful art. Ht. 9 inches. Width and length 6 inches. This is a great Pre Columbian pottery artifact that was part of a larger piece. It appears to be a deity or warrior face but I am not certain. It is Pre Columbian Mayan or Aztec but I can't tell precisely. It is Mesoamerican. For a small item it has a lot of detail and it can draw you to its stare. Purchased from an antiquities boutique that obtained it from the private collection of an archeologist. A very cute piece and nice art for size. Pre-Columbian art references art in the Americas prior to the arrival of Columbus in 1492. Ancient civilizations developed great cities with temples and palaces. Produced art and established extensive trade routes. The most prominent cultures were those of Mesoamerica and the Central Andes Mountains in South America. Central America developed to a lesser degree. Serving as a bridge and stopping point between the two cultures. Most artifacts from these civilizations are derived from ancient burial sites where pottery and ornaments accompanied the dead. This period came to an end with the arrival of the Spaniards and subsequent destruction of the once great Inca civilization in 1532. If it matters to you to know that you'

Almost all the erotic pottery was destroyed as mentioned in the book. The new land being civilized by the church and its missions had 0 tolerance for erotic pottery and the book was to preserve a historical evidence[witness] the government saw as embarrassing and their goal was to make this evidence go away. historical suppression and standing orders to destroy erotic objects was the daily business. To find unbroken full pieces is well. I have seen few others sure one has a break crack and a small chip but to be this near mint condition is a real find. the painting[coloring] has been preserved and they were prized decorations and not used by the natives. They are not pipes they look to be but that was not the purpose.

Estate– pre-owned– unknown origin& authenticity My uncle always told me he had a substantial Pre-Columbian pottery collection. When he passed. I found a LOT of pottery in his house and brought most of it home with me. I am listing a few pieces weekly as I unbox them. He was very interested and educated in the various cultures and was fascinated with the artifacts they left behind. He traveled to South America twice a year from the 1960s-1990s and visited many ruins and historical sites– that’s about 40 years of collecting. ... moreHe had very close friends in South America. He purchased many pieces from professional auction houses and many still have stickers on them from the auctions. If there is any paperwork with an item. PRE COLUMBIAN FIGURE MEXICO FEMALE POTTERY CLAY 7 INCHES AUTHENTIC ANCIENT
PRE COLUMBIAN FEMALE FIGURE POTTERY MEXICO AUTHENTIC ANCIENT This Mexican Pre Columbian pottery female figure is 7 inches high and is possibly a variant of Jalisco or Nayarit but I am not an expert and cannot be sure of the culture. It will not stand by itself and is supported for the photos. Iti s missing an arm. Lower leg and foot and another foot. or whatever it had at the ends of the legs) The arm is complete with no hand just a rounded structure. Ears and nose are abnormally large with the head sloping backwards at an angle. Minute reflective crystaline structures in the clay and dark areas that seem to be manganese deposits. There is a slight chip on the back of the head. This is an authentic figure and not a reproduction and I have had it for over 40 years. Figure would look well mounted and standing upright.
