PRE COLOMBIAN LAMINATED GOLD COPPER BURIAL FUNERARY MASK 150 - 900 A.D.
Pre-Colombian Laminated Tumbaga Gold Mask from South-Western Colombia Circa 150- 900 A.D. Description: Made of an copper- gold sheet. Then laminated with Tumbaga Gold, an allow of gold, silver and copper. The almond shaped eyes are accentuated with two interlaced lines. Under each eye decorated with four circular ornaments. These circular ornaments and the interlaced lines around the eyes are on top of the mask and applied before the Laminated Tumbaga process. Catalogue Notes: Gold& Tumbaga Gold Pre-Columbian gold has always been classified by the gold content. 80% or more gold in a piece is classified as pure gold. 60-80% as fine gold. 40-60% as poor gold. And. Under 40% gold in a piece as Tumbaga. Tumbaga was the name given by Spaniards to a non-specific alloy of gold and copper which they found in widespread use in Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. ... moreTumbaga is an alloy comprised mostly of gold and copper. It has a significantly lower melting point than gold or copper alone. It is harder than copper. But maintains malleability after being pounded. Tumbaga can be treated with a simple acid, like citric acid, to dissolve copper off the surface. What remains is a shiny layer of 23-karat gold on top of a harder, more durable copper-gold alloy sheet. Use In The Americas Tumbaga was widely used by the Pre-Columbian cultures of central America to make religious objects. Like most gold alloys. Tumbaga was versatile and could be cast, drawn, hammered, gilded, soldered, welded, plated, hardened, annealed, polished, engraved, embossed, and inlaid. The proportion of gold to copper in artifacts varies wildly; items have been found with as much as 97% gold while others instead contain 97% copper. Some Tumbaga has also been found to be comprised of metals besides gold and copper. Up to 18% of the total mass of the Tumbaga. Metalworking Repoussé or repoussage is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal(such as gold leaf) is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side. Chasing is the opposite technique t

ESTATE PRE COLOMBIAN PAINTED CERAMIC COLIMA DOG
Up for auction is a pre-Colombian painted ceramic Colima dog. It came from a collectors' estate sale and the origin was described as Western Mexico. The dog measures 6 1/2" from the tip of the nose to the tail and is 4 1/4" high to the tip of the ear. There is some damage to the artifact. Which is fully shown in the pictures. A chip on one side of the nose and on one leg. Looks like the leg with the chip was reattached. This is a great example of pre-Colombian art. It was not tested for its authenticity, so it can be a museum quality Colima dog or a very fine antique reproduction. Sold as is as found. Good luck with your bidding.

Pre Colombian ARAWAK (CARIBE) NATIVES "STONE ARTIFACTS" Museum quality very rare
2 Pieces of Arawak indians artifacts. I was at the site where this items were dug from. At the north border of Haiti and Dominican Republic. in 1981 One is a fertility God made of a softer stone. And the other one is a hand seed crusher, made of a very hard stone. One is approximately six inches long- and the other one is 5 inches in diameter A short history. This artifacts were bought in Port Bue Lemonade in the north shore a few miles of Cape Hatien. I was there doing a reportage on a Doctor. A Surgeon from Clearwater Florida, that once a year will visit the Albert Schweitzer hospital to do do cosmetic surgery on children's with Cleft Lip. On the day before returning to St. Petersburg. Fl. I saw a young man selling a rusted spanish musket- with my limited French and some spanish. I understood that his father was farming and pulling ... moresome of that stuff with his plow. I thought to do a short piece for the paper. And asked him to take me to his father. There at the end of the field was a small thatched roof hut. And inside there were a number of artifacts- all to big to carry back home in my camera bag- well, not to waist the trip, and to make the young man happy, I bought the two smallest pieces i could afford. His dad was no where to be found. And here they are. They ARE ORIGINAL_ NO COPIES. I HAD TO CLEAN THE MUD AND DIRT FROM THEM. I'm retired from the newspaper business. And this artifacts have been in a box since then. I'm cleaning all the memorabilia, and this ones are looking for a better home or museum. Cheers. Ask lots of questions. PayPal only please. I'll ship world wide.Insured.

These pieces were originally given to my great uncle in the 60's by the excavation team that dug it up for his help with the dig. They have been in storage for most of their lives with my family and I think they would be much better off on display in someones house. Both pieces were appraised recently here in Los Angeles by Ronald W. Damman from Stendahl Galleries. Their combined value is appraised at $2400. But we are willing to take $1800 for them.

Agriculture and fishing were very important activities. The Chimus worshipped the Moon. They view the Sun as a destroyer, possibly because of the harshness of the sun in their desert environment. Their ceramics were usually stained black, although there were variations. Lighter ceramics were not common, but were produced ... morein smaller quantities. Archeological evidence dates human occupation of the area as far back as 1500 BCE. With sites here contemporary with San Lorenzo on the Gulf Coast and Tlatilco in the Valley of Mexico. One period of the area’s development is called the Los Ortices ... moreera which began around 500 BCE. During this time the elements which characterize the pre-Hispanic peoples of Colima appear such as shaft tombs and a distinctive ceramic style called“rojo bruñido” or burnished red. The next phase called Comala, covers the time period from around 100 to 600 CE, centered on a site of the same name. Comala people would perfect burnished red pottery and develop representations of people and animals with skill and fluid lines. The best known of these figures are known as the“fattened dogs” The Comala site shows influence from Teotihuacan. Around 500 CE, another site in Armería developed along the river of the same name. The Chanal site was active from the 6th to the 15th centuries and was the main culture for the Colima area. Belonging to this culture was a number of smaller sites and most of the ones known and explored to date. After Chanal the largest related site is La Campana but most contain pyramidal bases and plazas with structures often containing rounded edges. Images of Huehueteotl and Tlaloc appear with this culture. Which may indicate the origins of the cultures that ultimately settled central Mexico. There is one other site call
