2 Pieces of Arawak indians artifacts. I was at the site where this items were dug from in the north border of Haiti and Dominican Republic. in 1981 One ... moreis a fertility God made of a softer stone. And the other one is a hand seed crusher, made of a very hard stone. One is approximately six inches long- and the other one is 5 inches in diameter A short history. This artifacts were bought in Port Bue Lemonade in the north shore a few miles of Cape Hatien. I was there doing a reportage on a Doctor. A Surgeon from Clearwater Florida, that once a year will visit the Albert Schweitzer hospital to do do cosmetic surgery on children's with Cleft Lip. On the day before returning to St. Petersburg. Fl. I saw a young man selling a rusted spanish musket- with my limited Spanish and French. I understood that his father was farming and pulling some of that stuff with his plow. I thought to do a short piece. And asked him to take me to his father. There at the end of the field was a small thatched roof hut. And inside there were a number of artifacts- all to big to carry back home in my camera bag- well, not rto waist the trip, and to make the young man happy, I bought the two smallest pieces i could afford. And here they are. They ARE ORIGINAL_ NO COPIES. I HAD TO CLEAN THE MUD AND DIRT FROM THEM. I'm retired from the newspaper business. And this artifacts have been in a box since then. I'm cleaning all the memorabilia, and this ones are looking for a better home or museum. Cheers. Ask lots of questions. PayPal only please. I'll ship world wide.Insured.

Pre-Colombian Mayan Goddess Figure, 9 inches
Pre-Colombian Ceramic Goddess Figure Coastal Peten Region of Guatemala, 400-600 AD, 9 x"4, The Mayan Civilization believed that the Gods first attempted to make man using trees. These small fast moving'men' were however sinners. And the Gods made the decision to eliminate them. The fastest amongst the sinners were able to escape eradication by hiding in the branches of the trees from which they were originally made. They became monkeys, and to this day are forced to live above the earth in the trees. The second attempt was made using corn. We are the descendants of the men made of corn by the Gods of Xibalba. The closer we are to the gods, the higher our headdress shows us to have come down toward their rule. This figure shows a female figure with a small girl(daughter) as her headdress. This implies her connection to the Gods ... moreis physically passed on. Therefor she is a Mayan Mother Goddess. The piece was repaired in antiquity and re-fired.

I inherited this pot from my grandmother who traveled to South America in the 1940's. I think she went with the National Geographic Society. I have 16mm films of her travels including a head-shrinking ceremony. It has a tiny hairline crack in the rim which can hardly be seen without a magnifying glass. It won't show-up in a photo. There is also what might be a small repair on the under side of the rim the size of a dime or it might just be part of the original design. Not sure. If I can get it to show-up in a photo. I'll add the photo to the others. HERE ARE EXPERTS' RESPONSES TO MY INQUIRES REGARDING HISTORY AND ... moreVALUE: Dear Carole Your pot is called Sonajero and is from the Mochica Culture of around 400 AD. Peru. It is worth around 2000 $ or so to a dealer. Jerry- Primative Arts Expert Dear Carole, Thank you for sending along the images of the pot you inherited. Here is what I can tell you based solely on the images and your description. It is possibly from the Moche culture of Peru. 100 to 800 AD. It has a replacement cost value for insurance of around $3,000. What interests me most is the band of crayfish or lobsters with a single sun symbol around the rim. A year or so ago I heard a lecture on Moche imagery by Steve Bourget where he clearly demonstrated that much of their political organization and culture was profoundly influenced by the El Nino oscillation. The crayfish of lobster imagery was part of that. You can research it more. There is a lot of recent literature about that. Gregory Ghent.

Museum Quality Pre Colombian tripod polychrome rattle dish
A very large Pre-Columbian Costa Rican painted tripod bowl with animorphic feet from the ancient Costa Rica/ Nicaragua region of Central America. Circa 1000 A.D. 1350 A.D. Measuring approximately 11" wide and about 9 1/2" tall, this vessel features three dramatic animorphic legs that contain rattles, as well as abstract painted designs. The bowl is finished in a cream slip with elaborate painted features in red, orange, and black. This type is specifically attributed to the Fonseca Variety of the Papagayo Polychrome type, from the Greater Nicoya region of Costa Rica/Nicaragua, Central America. Each leg is modeled in three dimensions with painted accents to depict facial features. Clay rattle balls are visible through the open mouths. The interior design. Though suffering from significant paint wear, depicts a very abstract stylized ... morefigural representation. Condition: Check out pictures they tell everything. There are crack lines in dish that are stable and not through. Root marks and mineral deposits attest to the age and authenticity of this piece. This piece has been in my collection for over 20 years and was bought at auction. This Cacao Vessel is decorated with 4 relief images of Itzamna and his alter ego the Serpent. Above his head is an eye like image of him as a bird. The striated foundation of the vessel is made as a representation of the raw Cacao pod. Itzamna is seen pouring the last drops of Cacao from a vessel on to his extended curled tongue. The serpent is likely wrapped around a Cacao tree. Itzamna- The founder of the Maya culture' God of maize. Cacao, healing, writing, drawing, calendars. His attributes are the snake and the mussel. The founder of the Maya culture, He brought his people maize and cacao and taught them writing, healing, and the use of calendars. As the bringer of culture he became the state-god of the Mayan empire. As the moon-god he rules over the night. Itzamna is also called'God D' and bears the title of'lord of knowledge' ... moreHe is a son of Hunab Ku with Ixchel he is the father of the Bacabs. In Mayan religion, Itzamna is usually treated as the supreme god. He is second only to Hunab Ku, but he is less abstract than Hunab Ku and more representations of him can be found in the archaeological record His attributes are the snake and the mussel, and he himself is depicted as an old man with a flower headdress. Sometimes he is shown as a giant bird. The vessel was likely shattered in antiquity after the Cacao Ceremony, the likes of which often included blood letting and sacrifices. One side of the vessel appears to have sat in moisture, and some of the relief figures are faded. The repair work was done prior to acquisition. 8 x"6.

BEADART-AUSTRIA Ancient Pre-colombian Sodalite Beeads - jade and shell necklace
A new design by Beadart-Austria This is an extraordinary new creation around four ancient Pre-Colombian sodalite beads. I have had the chance to find five beads with a reputed antique dealer. Four of which are incorporated in this necklace. The front is an ancient shell bead, flanked by two carved red jade beads. Gilded Bali sterling silver on each side of the sodalite! Wonderful green jade(no idea if the beads had been color treated) and Bali spacers are strung in the back part. A stunning color mix with ancient and new beads! Length 53 cm. I have one sodalite bead and one shell bead(it is a matching pair) left. One earring in sodalite and one earring with shell might be a suggestion. I do not accept this as a reason for a return claiming that the item does not correspond to the description. I had to increase shipping charges because. Pre Colombian Style Bowl - Mexican / Aztec Design
Offering for sale what I believe is a Pre Colombian Style Bowl- Mexican/ Aztec Design. This hand painted bowl. Has what I believe is a Mexican/ Aztec Design. I do not know it origin or its age. I think it was hand made, probably by a artisan in Mexico or South America and maybe sold as a souvenir. I don't know the history of this item. It is definitely hand painted. The material the pot is made from is some sort of red clay. possibly Terracotta, but I'm not a ceramics expert so I honestly don't know. There are two chips on the rim, one on the outside top and one smaller one on the inside top side. If you inspect the chips you can clearly see the bowl is a red clay pot. I'm not claiming this is Pre Colombian because the finish on it seems to be too smooth and finished. I can tell you this was rescued from a former antique dealer ... morewho closed shop about 20 years ago and had this bowl in storage since. It measures approximately 7 3/8 outside diameter on the top rim and has a 2 1/2" base. PLEASE BID ACCORDINGLY TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THIS ITEM IS NOT AUTHENTICATED. Please send inquiries or information and thank you in advance for your bids.

Unusual LARGE Pre-Colombian NAYARIT 11” Standing MALE Figure
Offered is a fine authentic pre-colombian Nayarit figure of unusual large size. At 11” he is almost twice the average height for this type of figure. He is wearing an elaborate headdress and a wide belt with molded details at the back. Fine original excavated surface retaining most of the original red. Now with extensive natural calcite and manganese deposits from burial. This is from the estate of a local artist who painted in the American southwest and Mexico in the 1930’s. The figure was originally holding something that looks like it might have been a war club that is now missing. Old repair to the neck, and a few scattered chips and losses(see photos) but otherwise fine original condition.

Two Pre-Colombian Mayan Artifacts from Mexico, Spindle Whorl Bead & Idol Head
I spent the summer of 1973 in Mexico City. A gentleman I met there had found these on his family farm outside of the city. The spindle whorl bead measures about 1" diameter and about 3/4" tall. It has a nice design carved into the sides. The center hole is still filled with Mexican soil. It appears. The votive idol head measures 2" long by 1" wide. Unfortunately it was broken in half at one time and glued back together, which is more obvious from the rear.
