Amazing Neanderthal Convex Quina Scraper Middle Paleolithic Mousterian 70.000 BC Description Type: backed convex Quina scraper on flake. Paleolithic Period. ... moreIndustry: Middle Paleolithic: Quina Mousterian. Dating: approx. 75.000 to 65.000 B.C. Isotope stage 4, the first cold maximum of the last glaciation in Europe, where climatic conditions were harsh and extremely cold. Description: Size: length 3.7 cm, weight 16 grams, Shape. Retouch: an amazing Quina scraper on flake. It’s right edge has a beautiful. Very fine stepped retouch from distal to proximal end. The distal end is the upper end of the former core, and the retouch of the scraper edge starts at the corner end/ edge, see picture 7. The distal part of the left edge is a blunted back, the proximal part is a beveled edge with steep retouch, Raw-material: brown flint with creamy patination. Preservation: very well. No modern damages. The flint is of excellent quality, which is rarely the case at finds from La Quina, Additional Information. Literature: Some characteristics of the Quina Mousterian industry: only little Levallois technique was used. But Clacton flakes were preferred, no handaxes were found in the assemblages, a very high percentage of scrapers with lateral, double, convergent, transverse as most common ones, and sometimes small very thin scrapers with a very fine stepped retouch. Preferred retouch was the stepped/ or Quina retouch, made with hard strikes first which produced broad, irregular flake negatives and secondary refining retouches directly at the edges in a second step. 3 Paleolithic Aterian and 4 Mesolithic stone tools - Sahara found
Lot Description: This is a group of 3 Aterian tools and 4 Mesolithic unifacial blades found in the Sahara desert. In the region of Morocco. The Aterian tools were used during a wet period in the Sahara 40.000 to 30,000 years ago. The Aterian culture disapperaed from the Sahara about 30.0000 years ago as the area became dryer and inhospitable. During later wet periods(corresponding to the Ice Ages in northern Europe) subsequent cultures re-popolulated areas of the Sahara leaving behind more refined tool types during the later Mesolithic and Neolithic eras. This tools wass probably used for cutting and scrapping of hides. Many of the times the tips of these points are worked around rather than coming to a sharpe tip necessary for a spear point. It could be that these tools started as a spear point and were later re-purposed into hafted scrappers. ... moreThe tips do show that they were worked into the configuration. Whatever the case they are interesting relics with thick patination and are sand polished from sitting in wind-blown deserts for many thousands of years. Early tools like are very interesting. It was the tools which gave early man the ability to hunt for meat. Meat allowed our brains and inteligence to expand. Contemporary hominids who did not hunt but grazed on plant matter did not evolove and became extinct. It was tool usage which allowed us(Homo Sapien Sapien) emerge and become masters of the world. Inca Treasures pair of Paleolithic ammonite fossils, Neolithic, artifacts stones
This is an exquisite fossil ammonite from the Paleolithic period that is a matched pair from the same shell. Inner surfaces are polished and there are great cavitation to show where the animals lived in their shell. The ammonites are mollusks and related to the Nautilus group. Their spiral shape is captivating and as the animal grew produced extensions in its shell to accommodate its increasing size. They began dying off in the Mesozoic period. This lovely artifact specimen is about 150 million years old and came from Madagascar. This paired fossil cut is a terrific specimen especially as many of the chambers are not fossilized in giving a three dimensional view of life as an ammonite. By the way. The animal is long deceased though part of it may have changed to stone in the shell. But a wonderful specimen. Size: each is 3 inches by 21/2 ... moreinches Please see photos and ask questions before buying. See my collection of Pre Columbian artifacts, pottery, vessels, art, and other fossils and items. This is not a pre Columbian artifact art piece. Way too old though the Pre Columbian Cultures often used Spondylus shells for their brilliant colors. Inca Treasures Ltd

Fantastic Quartzite Cleaver Handaxe, Paleolithic Lower Acheulian 600.000 BC
Fantastic Quartzite Cleaver Handaxe. Paleolithic Lower Acheulian 600.000 BC Description Type: handaxe: cleaver on flake. Paleolithic Period. Industry: Lower Paleolithic. Lower Acheulian. Dating: archaeological research in Western Europe proved that the European continent has been conquested as early as 1.3 to 1,1 Mio years(finds of Atapuerca/ Spain) Early Pleistocene. The assignment of the oldest human finds at Atapuerca to a particular early human species as Homo erectus or Homo antecessor is still controversial. As controversially discussed is the earliest date of permanent colonization of Europe, and good dating of the high gravel terraces of southern French rivers is still lacking. So we suggest an estimated time frame of approx. 800.000 to 400.000 BP. Description: Size: length 11.0 cm, width7,1 cm, thickness 4,1 cm, weight 325 grams, ... moreShape. Retouch: a fantastic cleaver on flake. But point of percussion is removed, it was somewhere at the lower left edge/ proximal end of the face shown second. The exterior side shown first presents broad lateral flaking at both edges, and some finer flat, stepped edge flaking at the the right lateral edge. The butt has a stepped retouch. The other face has the retouch at the proximal part of left edge and proximal end, as already mentioned. The wide cutting edge at the distal end is wedge-shaped, very typical on cleavers. It has fine splinted traces of use/fine retouch especially on the cortical face. Raw-material: a pebble out of gray quartzite. The most common raw-material on the Garonne terraces, Preservation: very well: the surface of the rock is weathered and edges rounded at some places where it must have been exposed to wind and weather for a very long time. But flake scars are still well defined. Few of the tiny flat scars at the cutting edge seem to be recent, and there are two, also flat scars at the butt. They do not detract from value and beautyof this excellent cleaver, Additional Information. Literature: The pebble tools found on the high gravel terraces
26 nice Sahara Neolithic relics - tools, celt, beads, PLUS 1 paleolithic tool.
This group of 26 Sahara Neolithic relics. PLUS one PALEOLITHIC Aterian tool, is composed of diverse types of relics, which were discovered on ancient habitation sites deep in the western Sahara desert, mostly in the vicinity of northern Muaratania/Mali but also includes two triangular'Eiffel Tower' points from Algeria. This group consist of several types of projectile points from varying periods of the Neolithic era. Including ovate, stemmed, triangular, and unifacial tool forms. In all there are 19 Neolithic stone projectile points and tools including: two early unifacial tools(seen horizontally along the bottom and one crecent blade(seen below the Aterian tool on the right side) Also from the Neolithic there are also 3 nice carnelian/agate hard stone beads, drilled biconically as was the method, 2 partial pottery beads, one labret(thought ... moreto be used in body piercing/adornment) and one hard stone celt. At the upper right you will see an Aterian tool from the Sahara. This is the earlier known type of stone tool with a stem for hafting. Probably used to serve as a knife/scrapper. This tool is VERY old with weathered features and work around into a semi-circle. The point has been worked into a shape for cutting/scrapping and was probably a hafted scrapper rather than a spear point(possibly re-purposed) This type of tool was used during a wet period in the Sahara 40,000 to 30,000 years ago; this relic is 1 3/4th inches 46 mm) long. Nice smaller with nice attractive white/orange patina. The Aterian culture disapperaed from the Sahara about 30,0000 years ago. During later wet periods(corresponding to the Ice Ages in northern Europe) later cultures re-popolulated areas of the Sahara leaving different tool types in the Mesolithic and Neolithic eras. This is one of the more diverse offering of ancient Sahara relics you will find in one lot. The shortest point is 11/16th inch(18 mm) The longest tool is 2 3/16th inches(56 mm) long. The celt is 1 inch(26 mm) long. Heel to bit; it is short, good miniture form,

29 nice Sahara Neolithic relics - tools, celt, beads, and 1 paleolithic tool.
This group of 29 Sahara Neolithic relics. In all there are 19 Neolithic stone projectile points and tools including: two early unifacial tools(seen horizontally along the bottom, middle) and one crecent blade(it has a thick white patina nad is seen right above a bead) Also from the Neolithic there are also 5 hard stone beads, drilled biconically as was the method(one is large and broken but shows ... moredrilling method very well) 3 partial pottery beads, one labret(thought to be used in body piercing/adornment) and one hard stone celt. At the upper right you will see an Aterian tool from the Sahara. This is the earlier known type of stone tool with a stem for hafting. Probably used to serve as a knife/scrapper. This tool is VERY old with weathered features and work around into a semi-circle. The point has been worked into a shape for cutting/scrapping and was probably a hafted scrapper rather than a spear point(possibly re-purposed) This type of tool was used during a wet period in the Sahara 40,000 to 30,000 years ago; this relic is 15/8th inches 43 mm) long. Rnice small with nice attractive white patina. The shortest point is 7/8th inch(23 mm) The longest tool is 2 1/16th inches(52 mm) long. The celt is 1 3/8h inch(3

40.000Y.O: HUGE FLINT TOOL STONE AGE PALEOLITHIC NEANDERTHAL MAN!! MOUSTERIAN
EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description of the Homo Neanderthalensis- the Neanderthal( Neandertal) men from the Mousterian phase about 40.000- 60.000 years ago. It is a very large discoid shaped tool. Most likely used as a knife or a scraper. Length of this terrific white patinized artifact is 128 mms! From a great Southern German collection! The Mousterian industry appeared around 200.000 years ago and persisted until about 40,000 years ago, in much the same areas of Europe, the Near East and Africa where Acheulean tools appear. In Europe these tools are most closely associated with Homo neanderthalensis, but elsewhere were made by both Neanderthals and early Homo sapiens. Mousterian tools required a preliminary shaping of the stone core from which the actual blade is struck off. The toolmakers either ... moreshaped a rock into a rounded surface before striking off the raised area as a wedge shaped flake(see photo at left) or they shaped the core as a long prism of stone before striking off triangular flakes from its length, like slices from a baguette. Because Mousterian tools were conceived as refinements on a few distinct core shapes, the whole process of making tools had standardized into explicit stages(basic core stone, rough blank, refined final tool) Variations in tool shapes could be produced by changes in the procedures at any stage. A consistent manufacturing goal was to increase as much as possible the cutting area on each blade. Though this made the toolmaking process more labor intensive, it also meant the edges of the tools could be reshaped or sharpened as they dulled, so that each tool lasted longer. The whole toolmaking industry had adapted to get the maximum utility from the labor invested at each step. Tool forms in the Mousterian industry display a wide range of specialized shapes. Cutting tools include notched flakes, denticulate(serrated) flakes, and flake blades similar to Upper Paleolithic tools. Points appear that seem designed for use in spears or

The rubies would begin budding as small white gems, and would slowly grow and ripen, turning red in the light of the sun. When the ruby was saturated with red color, it was ready to be plucked. In the classical ancient world, rubies from Afghanistan, Ceylon, India and Burma were traded in the ancient ... moreport cities of the Eastern Mediterranean(often by Phoenicians) and from there traveled throughout Europe. However it is believed that most of the ancient world’s ruby came from Ceylon, where evidence suggests ruby may have been mined for the past 20,000 years. Archaeologists have uncovered ancient Etruscan jewelry with Celanese ruby which dates back to the seventh century B.C. However scientists believe that ruby has also been mined in Burma since Paleolithic and Neolithic times as well, as mining tools have been excavated by archaeologists dating both to the Bronze Age as well as backwards into the Stone Age. Celebrating this historical legacy here's a very nice quality century antique ruby oval. Hand crafted by a 19th century Russian artisan.
