Paleolithic Arrowhead 42mm, Saharan Flint Artifact - 70,000-30,000BC (L031)
Paleolithic Arrowhead Length: 42mm Width: 28mm Depth: 8mm Material: Flint Colour: Brown/ Black Type: Nosed Point. Tanged Age: 70.000-30,000BC Area: Sahara The'Aterian industry' was a stone tool tradition of the Middle and Late Paleolithic period. Derived from the Mousterian culture in the region around the Atlas Mountains and the northern Sahara. It refers the site of Bir el Ater, south of Annaba. The Aterian people were among the first to use the bow and arrow. Aterian stone tools are an advanced African form of the European Levalloisian tradition, adapted to desert use. A distinctive Aterian sign is the formation of stems, or tangs, on tools to facilitate hafting; this was done on spearheads, arrowheads, and scrapers. Bifacial spearheads were produced with a very fine pressure chipping technique, equivalent in difficulty to those ... moreused in later tool traditions such as the Mousterian. Leaf-shaped blades made by the Aterians have been likened to Solutrean blades; it has often been suggested that the Aterians may have entered the Iberian Peninsula during Solutrean times. These tanged/ stemmed arrowheads represent a milestone in early human cognitive thinking as well as Paleolithic history. The man-made protrusion seen in ATERIAN tools is the first evidence of a tang on a projectile point. Proof that the points were hafted on shafts and eventually developed into arrowheads. I will include with this Paleolithic arrowhead an A4 information sheet outlining the details above and showing a colour photograph of the item and its measurements etc. I will also include a basic Paleolithic arrowhead'type guide' see item pictures to know what to expect. I have personally handled over 35.000 of arrowheads or'flints' during my collecting over the last 20 years. All of my items are authentic, I do not sell fakes or reproductions, this is as important to me as it is to you. Exceptional Lower Paleolithic proto-Levallois flint core
Nice collection or borers, Exceptional very rare proto-Levallois flint core It is a tool from the famous site la Pointe-aux-Oies at wimereux. France. Hundred of choppers, chopping-tools, and some rare proto-handaxes were found at the base of a marine cliff, but the prehistorians never succeeded to date the site. They estimated that this lithic industry was close to the clactonian culture, by its method, but different by its tools characteristics. Some specialists think it could be the oldest site in Northern Europe and could have more than 700 000 years. This artefact is a flint core showing a preferential flake removed on the knapping surface prepared by four previous removals and by several removals made perpendicularly to this surface. This is exactly the same operational mode than in the case of The Levallois preferential flake technique. ... moreAs it is dated of the lower paleolithic, could we qualify this mode of Levallois or could we consider it as the ancestor of this technique? Marble Rock Egg Carving Hunting Scene Native American Paleolithic Prehistoric
This auction is for a very rare and unique find. It is a primitive hand carved piece of stone. I am almost positive it is marble. It is very heavy and looks to have been hand polished and is very smooth. It looks almost like a fossilized egg because it has an egg shape and fits perfect to your palm. It was found in a pasture field in West Georgia after plowing this Summer. I have taken it to several people to try and get an appraisal and all have told me that it was extremely unique and rare find and that was definitely old and authentic. I have had several of the appraisers tell me that it was Native American in origin and one appraiser who was a local professor tell me that it looked to be much older and possibly paleolithic period in age. I would love for someone to buy this piece and either be a collector or be able to find out more about ... moreit. I know it would have a very good value from what I was told by the appraisals and that this is a very reasonable price that I am asking for it. It measures about 6 3/8" in diameter and about 4" in length. It has two pictures almost side by side carved into the stone as you can see in the pics. The first carving is a large tree and the second picture looks to be either a deer or possibly a moose? There is a bottom piece missing and so is the very top. It fits perfectly in your hand and it has been worn down very smooth. It is really beautifully done and handcrafted and would be a great unique piece for a collector. Shipping is $12.99. It will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail with Insurance. I accept Paypal. Please pay within 3 days of auction end. Thanks for looking and please check out my other auctions.
Prehistoric Neolithic Paleolithic Stone Hand Axe Handaxe Africa African
This listing is for an authentic Prehistoric African Paleolithic Hand Axe. I acquired this ancient hand axe at the Gem& Mineral show a few years ago. The dealer specialized in African archaeological artifacts and informed me it was African and from the Paleolithic period, I wish I was able to get more info but he was short on time as the Gem show was closing up as it was the last day. He had an assortment of hand axes and I hand picked the best one in his collection, I've had this for a few years, it's a very nice piece, very heavy with a smooth surface. Thank you for watching! This item is heavy but I'm offering free USA shipping. I do not have international listed. Please contact me if you are international and I will see the individual rates for your country thank you.

Premium Grade Middle Paleolithic Aterian Flint Tanged Point
PREMIUM GRADE MIDDLE PALEOLITHIC ATERIAN FLINT TANGED POINT My father was working for Haliburton in the Sahara Desert on the outskirts of Algeria Africa. I looked up alot of information on these artifacts and this item is in premium grade and valued around $195. It was found by my father while he was working there. And he passed his collection to me before passing away. Exposed Saharan Site- North Africa MIDDLE PALEOLITHIC PERIOD(ATERIAN) 85.000- 30,000 years ago This ATERIAN TRADITION tanged tool was found on an exposed North Saharan site dating back to the Middle Paleolithic Period. This beautifully colored and fine example was fashioned out of flint and features excellent. NO RESTORATION AND NO REPAIR. Specimen is AS FOUND. The most famous invention of Aterian Tradition technology is the development of primitive tanged projectile points ... moreand scrapers meant to be hafted. These tanged arrowheads represent a milestone in early human cognitive thinking as well as Paleolithic history. The man-made protruding process on ATERIAN tools is the first evidence of a tang on a projectile point. Proof that the points were hafted on shafts and eventually developed into arrowheads. Some scientist theorize that the bow and arrow was first invented around the time of the Aterian tradition evidenced by the discovery of small tanged points from this same region in North Africa. The Aterian Tradition is also responsible for various scrapers with obvious knapped tangs also intended for hafting the tool onto handles of bone. Ivory or wood. Primitive man. In the Aterian Period, sometimes salvaged damaged points to be reworked into tanged scrapers. In other instances. The original concept of the tool was a scraper and no evidence of being a former projectile point can be found. Tools and weapons from this technology date from periods over 45.000 years old to 30,000 years ago. In today's market. The Aterian point is the best bargain in an affordable, true arrowhead from the PALEOLITHIC Period. Later in the Neolithic Period. Arrowhe
Museum Grade African Triangular Acheulian Handaxe Lower Paleolithic Period
MUSEUM GRADE AFRICAN TRIANGULAR ACHEULIAN HANDAXE WITH EXTENSIVE ORIGINAL FLAKING MADE BY HOMO ERGASTER(ERECTUS) Exposed Site- Sahara Desert. North Africa LOWER PALEOLITHIC PERIOD(ACHEULIAN) 1.2 million- 500.000 years ago My father was working for haliburton in the sahara desert on the outskirts of algeria africa. I looked up alot of information on these artifacts and this hand axe is museum grade and valued around $1000 and up. It was found by my father while he was working there. The bottom is completely smoothe and flat This handaxe was made and used by early humans of the primitive species Homo erectus(ergaster) It was surface-collected from an exposed Acheulian site in the Sahara Desert of North Africa. This Lower Paleolithic tool represents the first intelligent design type known to science that was made by primitive humans. Prior to ... morethese Saharan Acheulian handaxes. Only crude pebble and flake tools existed in the human fossil record. This is a MUSEUM-GRADE example of an uncommon Acheulian handaxe form known as a TRIANGULAR handaxe. The wide and flat proximal end coupled with a sharp tip makes this axe a likely tool of choice to puncture large bones of hunted prey to get to the cherished marrow inside. During the time of this axe. There were large elephant species and giraffe species in Africa that primitive humans would have hunted. An axe like this was necessary to butcher such large kills. This example shows the most superb flaking and execution of this form. It fits PERFECTLY in the EITHER hand with a bulbous grip for the trailing fingers likely needed to get a firm grip as this axe would have been slippery with blood and fat when in use. As an added bonus. The bi-color patina is as good as it gets! The surface shows a"desert varnish" a natural glossy surface caused by the exposure of the stone to the blowing sands over hundreds of thousands of years. The two-tone patina on either side is a testament to its age and authenticity from laying untouched and exposed on one side for hundreds of mi

North Africa MIDDLE PALEOLITHIC PERIOD(MOUSTERIAN) 60.000- 30,000 years ago This Middle Paleolithic stone tool was fashioned out of quartzite in the Mousterian tradition and could have been used by Neanderthals and Homo sapiens between approximately 60.000 and 30,000 years ago. It was collected from an exposed Mousterian site in the Sahara Desert of North Africa. The tool tradition of the Neanderthals is called the Mousterian Tradition. The Mousterian Tool Culture ... moreis found in one of the longest and most spectacular sequences in the whole of North Africa. Several open and cave sites are documented. Oddly. This is a masterfully executed large Mousterian BACKED KNIFE of the finest possible quality and condition. The refined shaping and secondary flaking on both sides is of the most advanced form for this tool tradition. The form and execution of this extraordinary knife must be held to be appreciated.
