Italy. 19th Century. SIZE: Diameter" 7mm. Depth: 5mm. All measurements approximate. WEIGHT: 1.24 carats. NOTES: Upon request we can set your gemstones as a ring. Pendant, or as earrings(click for more information) DETAIL: Most everyone is familiar with emeralds and aquamarine. But did you know both are varieties of the gemstone beryl? Dark green beryl is known as emerald. And tends to be infested with inclusions. Light blue-green beryl on the other hand, aquamarine, tends to be transparent, lightly colored, and more frequently found eye clean to flawless. What light blue-green is to aquamarine, light green is to"green beryl" Green beryl is aquamarine, except that whereas aquamarine light blue-green color comes from iron impurities, the light green of beryl comes from vanadium. Like aquamarine, green beryl is generally found in better qualities than emerald, which is generally heavily included and fractured. But did you ever hear of pink beryl? Pink beryl is known in Russia as pink emerald- which is an apt description as emerald is beryl- as the only difference between them is that pink beryl is colored by manganese impurities; whereas other varieties of beryl are colored blue to green by impurities of iron(aquamarine) chromium(emerald) and vanadium(green beryl) For those few Americans who have ever heard of pink beryl, they might know it better as"Morganite" so named for the gemstone collector and capitalist J. P. Morgan. Just when exactly pink beryl(or if you prefer. pink emerald" or"Morganite" was first discovered is a source of contention. This particular specimen came from Elba Island, Italy, sometime around 1880, and was subsequently hand cut in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Howeve

Indian Artifact - Qty.29 Paleolithic Scrapers Arrowheads E-08152014
Authentic Paleo Indian Blades from Marshall County Indiana. I am trying to organize and price these as reasonable as possible for fixed priced listings. These are a variety of some the finest scrapers that I could compile into a case this size. Some are unifacial. Others are bifacial. The one blade that ressembles a Stanfield has a modern repair but is still an awesome artifact. This entire collection is second to none that I've seen up for sale as a gouping. Industry: Paleolithic: Mousterian( in contrast to the different Aterian industry) African Middle Stone Age. Dating: approx approx. 160.000 to 50.000 B.P. Description: Size: length 6.3 cm, weight 23 grams, Shape. Retouch: a rare offer from a Tunesian Mousterian site: an amazing sidescraper– endscraper–notch(all edges are retouched) on elongated. Rather thin Levallois flake. The left lateral edge has a deep notch and a scraper– like retouch below, with fine use-scars on the interior side. The oblique distal end is the endscraper with bladelet-like parallel flaking, also with fine use-scars on the interior side. The right lateral edge is a convex scraper with sub-parallel retouch. Raw-material: ... moreflint with thick creamy patination which has a wonderful gloss, Preservation: very well: the tool has three small flat modern chips. Two at the right edge, one at the distal end, and it has some tiny flat abrasions, mainly at the proximal end. these in no way detract from value and beauty of this amazing multi-tool. Additional Information. Literature: Middle Paleolithic in the northern African MAGHREB countries(Morocco. Algeria, Tunesia) has two distinct industries, the Mousterian/Middle Stone Age(MSA) and the Aterian(with tanged pieces) Both date into a time frame from approx. 160.000 to 50.000 BP. There is an ongoing scientific debate about the term Mousterian to be used for the North African Mousterian finds. On the one hand there are many obvious similarities to the European Mousterian, as stone tool kits with points, scrapers, notches, denticulates, Levallois technique and even Micoquian techniques. On the other hand it is argued that the entire African Middle Stone Age should be treated as independent industry. We tend to support the Mousterian idea, since similarities are obvious, and exchange of ideas and even people certainly must have taken

Paleolithic Lower Acheulian. Fabulous Straight Quartzite Scraper 600.000 BC Description Type: straight scraper/ chopper on pebble. Paleolithic Period. Industry: Lower Paleolithic. Lower Acheulian. Dating: archaeological research in Western Europe proved that the European continent has been conquested as early as 1.3 to 1,1 Mio years(finds of Atapuerca/ Spain) Early Pleistocene. As controversially discussed is the earliest date of permanent colonization of Europe, and good dating of the high gravel terraces of southern French rivers is still lacking. Exact professional replica. Made of resin. Dimensions figures range from 3-9 cm(1.2– 3,5 inch) I will send worldwide. 14 days money back guarantee(excluding shipping) Serie 10 pieces = price 85 $. From Free Wikipedia: Vogelherd Cave. Vogelherdhöhlen Listed as the Southern entrance. The left cave entrance is the big Vogelherd Cave. The right cave is just a small shelter, cut off from the main passage by a roof collapse many years ago. Photo: Jochen Duckeck Text below from: Delporte(1993) This huge cave is located in Stetten ob Lonetal(Lone Valley. Württemberg) It was excavated in 1931 by Gustav Riek, who detailed an impressive stratigraphy, generally separated from each other by sterile archaeological layers. He attributed the levels to the Upper Acheulean(layer 8) Mousterian layer 7) the middle and upper Aurignacian(layers 6 and ... more4) the Magdalenian(layers 3 and 2) and the Neolithic. The material collected during the excavation is kept at the Institute of Prehistory at the University of Tübingen. Riek published his findings. Which are supplemented by a recent analysis by D. de Sonneville-Bordes, used to specify the nature of three Aurignacian layers(layers 6 to 4) 6. This lower layer is poor in tools. And has a few rough Mousterian looking blades and points. Riek placed this layer in the early Aurignacian(Aurignacian-Früh) 5. the middle layer belongs to the typical Aurignacian. With points of bone with a split base, Aurignacian blades, rare keeled and muzzle scrapers and a significant number of burins, a majority of burins on truncation, a character which locates this in the Aurignacian of southwestern France. 4. the upper layer. Although it had one or two Gravettian points and an atypical pointe à cran or shouldered point, and although the split base points are not found in this layer, nevertheless belongs to the typical Aurignacian, with a normal development of nosed scrapers, but with a significant decrease in the proportion of chisels. terrific Aurignacien ovate shape backed side scraper upper paleolithic ca35000BC
The Aurignacien in Europe the first wide spread European culture of modern man. Also known as Homo sapiens sapiens or Cro-Magnon man, is the Aurignacian. At a time of around 35 000 years ago hunters and gatherers were creating what is considered to be the oldest art known to mankind. When one encounters traces of our earliest ancestors in Europe, they are mostly in the form of tools or hunting artifacts made from animal bones, flint, or other such resistant materials. Bones from hunted animals are seldom found, and the discovery of human remains is an extremly rare occasion. The discovery of ice age artworks anywhere is also a very seldom occurrence. Thus, the finds made on the Swabian Alb and in the French Pyrenees have been acknowledged as a true world sensation. 36 nice Sahara Neolithic relics - tools, beads, and 1 paleolithic tool.
This group of 36 Sahara Neolithic relics. PLUS one PALEOLITHIC Aterian tool, is composed of diverse types of relics, which were discovered on ancient habitation sites deep in the western Sahara desert, mostly in the vicinity of northern Mauritania/Mali but also includes two triangular'Eiffel Tower' points from Algeria. In all there are 24 Neolithic stone projectile points and tools including: three early uni-facial tools(seen at bottom row above beads) Also from the Neolithic there are also 10 hard stone beads, a cylindrical labret used in body piercing as a lip or ear ornament, and a nice celt(a tool for scrapping/cutting) seen at the upper left. The point has been worked into a shape for cutting/scrapping and was probably a hafted scrapper rather than a spear point(possibly re-purposed) This type of tool was used during a wet period in the Sahara 40,000 to 30,000 years ago; this relic is 1 15/16th inches(48 mm) long. The Aterian culture disappeared from the Sahara about 30.0000 years ago. During later wet periods, corresponding to the Ice Ages in northern Europe, newer cultures re-populated areas of the Sahara leaving different tool types in the Mesolithic and Neolithic eras. This is one of the more diverse offering of ancient Sahara relics you will find in one lot. The shortest point is 7/8th inch(43 mm) The longest tool is 13/16th inches(20 mm) long. 40.000Y.O: GREAT LEAF SHAPED BURIN STONE AGE PALEOLITHIC NEANDERTHAL MOUSTERIAN
EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description of the Homo Neanderthalensis- the Neanderthal( Neandertal) men from the Mousterian phase about 40.000- 60.000 years ago. It is a 133 mms large leaf shaped blade with special trimming at the upper side. Most likely used as an angle burin with two working zones! The Mousterian industry appeared around 200.000 years ago and persisted until about 40,000 years ago, in much the same areas of Europe, the Near East and Africa where Acheulean tools appear. In Europe these tools are most closely associated with Homo neanderthalensis, but elsewhere were made by both Neanderthals and early Homo sapiens. Mousterian tools required a preliminary shaping of the stone core from which the actual blade is struck off. The toolmakers either shaped a rock into a rounded surface before ... morestriking off the raised area as a wedge shaped flake(see photo at left) or they shaped the core as a long prism of stone before striking off triangular flakes from its length, like slices from a baguette. Because Mousterian tools were conceived as refinements on a few distinct core shapes, the whole process of making tools had standardized into explicit stages(basic core stone, rough blank, refined final tool) Variations in tool shapes could be produced by changes in the procedures at any stage. A consistent manufacturing goal was to increase as much as possible the cutting area on each blade. Though this made the toolmaking process more labor intensive, it also meant the edges of the tools could be reshaped or sharpened as they dulled, so that each tool lasted longer. The whole toolmaking industry had adapted to get the maximum utility from the labor invested at each step. Tool forms in the Mousterian industry display a wide range of specialized shapes. Cutting tools include notched flakes, denticulate(serrated) flakes, and flake blades similar to Upper Paleolithic tools. Points appear that seem designed for use in spears or lances, some including a tang or stub at th

EARLY MAN ARTIFACTS 200,000 Y.O. Acheulean, Paleolithic, Clactonian, Swanscombe
This Early Man Tool Collection was given to me by my good friend. Ruth DeEtte Simpson. Ms. Simpson was a noted archaeologist and philanthropist. I am listing this collection with hopes that it will find a place where it will be protected and displayed so others can appreciate the manner in which our great ancestors survived and evolved. I do not have the knowledge to even try and explain what each of these tools are used for or how they were made. What I do know is that Ms. Simpson and her parents explored Europe and particularly England in the early 1900's Ms. Simpson's family was very wealthy as a result of Ms. Simpson's grandfather's discovery of oil and valuable minerals. The family traveled the world in search of information and artifacts that related to early man. From the small amount of information I do have. I would ... moresay that this collection was probably gathered near Essex, England. Folks that find their way to this auction site will most likely be connected to the tools by the time and effort that they expended to educate themselves about the evolution of man. I am not listing a few of the tools from this collection. I want to keep them for myself. I always want to be able to hold one of the tools in my hand so I can experience the feeling that always comes over me when I realize I am handling a stone that my ancestors used as a tool over 200,000 years ago. Most of the tools have ink marks on them to indicate where they were found. Unfortunately. Ms. Simpson misplaced the catalog years ago when she moved from one city to another. I will answer questions to the best of my ability.

NOTES: Upon request we can set your gemstones as a ring. Pendant, or as earrings(click for more information) DETAIL: Some ancient cultures believed that rubies. As well as other gemstones, grew on trees, just like fruit. The rubies would begin budding as small white gems, and would slowly grow and ripen, turning red in the light of the sun. When the ruby was saturated with red color, it ... morewas ready to be plucked. In the classical ancient world, rubies from Afghanistan, Ceylon, India and Burma were traded in the ancient port cities of the Eastern Mediterranean(often by Phoenicians) and from there traveled throughout Europe. However it is believed that most of the ancient world’s ruby came from Ceylon, where evidence suggests ruby may have been mined for the past 20,000 years. Archaeologists have uncovered ancient Etruscan jewelry with Celanese ruby which dates back to the seventh century B.C. However scientists believe that ruby has also been mined in Burma since Paleolithic and Neolithic times as well, as mining tools have been excavated by archaeologists dating both to the Bronze Age as well as backwards into the Stone Age. Here's an absolutely exquisite. Exceptionally good quality 19th century antique hand faceted marquise cut ruby from Siam(present day Thailand) Hand crafted by a 19th century Russian artisan, part of an heritage renown for the production of the elaborate gemstones and jewelry of the Czars of Medieval, Renaissance, and Victorian Russia.
