All embellished in silver metallic embroidery with decorative cloth inserts. The slippers show ample evidence of long display and also of their genuine age, though much less in the way of purposeful wear- undoubtedly saved from a history of such use by being collected during the period. A paper inventory or pricing label from the long ago with old India ink inscription is still affixed ... moreto the bottom of one. This is not an area of extreme expertise for me so use the pics for verification and to see that these are absolutely a stunning example of antique folk art and not some current touristic pastiche offering. Condition is quite fine for the geographic provenance and age, with some expected toning to the leather uppers and metallic embroidery as evidence of the real thing. One shoe shows an ancient bit of loss to a cloth insert. Those leather uppers are still supple and to reiterate the soles show little actual use, and only some minor shelf wear to the finish at the ball and extreme heel.in fact, with a proper fit the pair could easily serve today. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition. Size is about 9 1/2 in. from tip of toe to back of heel, measured on the sole; about 3 in. across at the ball of the foot. I have had for years and ever now and again try to find a little more info about it. Finally I have decided to list it. Hoping this piece is appreciated and finds a good home. Handed down to me by a friend of my grandmother's. I only know her family brought it to the USA from Turkey. I have no idea if it is from the 18th or 19th Century. I am believe from the 1800's. I have found older and newer when trying to research. All slightly different. Pricing also varied greatly, from a few ... morehundred into the thousands. I will let you be the expert. The tiny dots on lid, I have started to scrap off- little dots of paint splatter. I can see upon looking inside that piece is very old by the way the handles rivets are rustic, PLEASE SEE Wear from age and there are dimples here and there. I am guessing the handle to be brass and cap copper with copper hinges and neck. See body. As different coloring copper color worn to silver. Bottom underside green and dirty. I did not attempt to clean or change patina. Spout- please see end tip, how it is either broken on top or maybe had an attachment. I found a similiar very worn and beat up from the early 1800's that had this same type of spout. It sounded as it was supposed to be shaped in this fashion. This is what I based start bid on. and a few others. I started opening bid low. Most are going for $ 700 up to over $15.000. But it seems the high end ones are highly decor ated. Dated 18 Jan 1909, and bears the crescent moon stamp of the Ottomans at the top and a crudely stamped crossed linden leaves(I think) with an inscription in Greek letters(possibly Cyrillic) to Apostle Iranou(my best guess) in Sofia. It also bears a Star of David. Bulgaria was/is one of the most religiously tolerant countries in the world. Very heavy. 12" long, it had been a working mill from the looks of it, and the bottom had been resoldered, so don't try to use again. I have for your consideration a Antique Cast Iron Footstool with a Needle Pointed Cover. Cast iron base is in black. There is some minor chipping to the paint and underneath there is evidence of a gold color paint. The top in upholstered in a vintage black ground needle point with oval beige center surrounded by flowers and leaves. The center of the oval beige has a bouquet of flowers done in petit point. Footstool in in very nice condition with no breaks or repairs. Needlepoint is very nicely executed. When needlepoint was placed onto the footstool. Some of the needlepoint canvas was left exposed, look at photo#8 for a closer look. It can only be seen if stool is turned upside down.
