Interesting Antique Ottoman Anatolian Paktong Hand Made White Metal Dish c 1850
Very interesting Hand Made Ottoman Turkish Dish. Anatolia c1850. Made from a white metal known as Paktong. A Chinese origin alloy of Copper-nickel-zinc. This alloy was first used in China and became known as'Paktong' in the west because this translates as'white copper' Paktong was probably known by the early Arab polymath Abu Musa Jabir ibn Hayyany and it's use would have spread across the silk routes. The dish is skillfully and naively hand raised and planished with 2 cast birds as handles. Typical of ottoman turkish silver and metal ware. It is heavy at 208g and is beautifully proportioned at 157mm by 101mm or 6 and 1/4 inches by 4 inches. Underneath it says 800. In my view this is a latter deception. I do not know the exact age of this piece but I would assume it is from the mid to late 1800s. This antique art nouveau water pitcher is in great condition for its age with only a few small dents and minor scratches. The main body and lid are made of copper and the handle and lid knob are made of brass. Notice how the knob on top is positioned off center. I did find another similar water pitcher online with the lid knob off center like this one but I am not certain if this one was originally positioned this way or not. Regardless. I think it adds quite a bit of character. I was very tempted to polish this piece but ... moredecided to leave that decision up to the buyer. Featuring a carved horn bowl, carved finial and inlaid bands along the bone shaft: a beautiful period piece in very good, untouched condition. 9 7/8" long, the bowl is 2 1/4" 1 3/4" According to the previous owner, it was purchased from a museum by his father in the 1950`s.

C.1850 This is beautiful mid to late 19 th century salt glaze jug or ewer from the Canakkale pottery producing region of Turkey. This example comes from the Ottoman Empire. And has a typically rich yellow and green streaked glaze with heavily incised sgraffito decoration; there is also some unusual zig-zag decoration to the handle, which alternates from glazed yellow slip to glazed bare pottery(see photos) It dates to around 1850-1880, and has two protrusions on each side, each of which has two holes– the purpose of these are unknown(they are not for hanging the jug from anything, as the holes do not go right through) This is a superb piece of antique ceramics. Abdulaziz(9/18 February 1830 â�?��? 4 June 1876) was the 32nd Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and reigned between 25 June 1861 and 30 May 1876. He was the son of Sultan Mahmud II and succeeded his brother Abd�?¼lmecid I in 1861. Born at the Eyup Palace. Constantinople(present-day Istanbul) on 9/18 February 1830, Abdulaziz received an Ottoman education but was nevertheless an ardent admirer of the material progress that was made in the West.The Sultan took an interest in documenting the Sultanate, for which purpose he appointed a Polish painter to his Court. An antique 19th century. Silver Ottoman era bichaq dagger. It could be from Turkey or the BAlkans. It has a steel hand forged blade. With signs of use and makers stamp. The handle is decorated with niello(worn) One of the"ears" is repaired. And the very end of the scabbard has beenbroken and re-attached(see photos) The scabbard is very finelly chisseled with repousse floral decoration.30.5cm overall. A good authentic example of the weapons of the era. Low start and NO RESERVE! Registered shipping for Europe is 25$ and 35$ for the rest of the world.
