Neolithic Flint Arrowhead 34mm - 4000BC (C041)
Neolithic Flint Arrowhead Length: 34mm Width: 17mm Material: Flint Colour: Grey Type: Leaf Age: 4000BC Area: Sahara The majority of flints on the market today were found in North West Africa. This is not a reflection on the density of usage of these items but more a reflection of the areas current climate- being very arid it makes it easier to find these items. The Sahara is the world's largest hot desert. Over 9,000,000 km²(3,500,000 mi²) almost as large as the United States. The Sahara is located in northern Africa and is 2.5 million years old. Its name, Sahara, is an English pronunciation of the word for desert in Arabic. The boundaries of the Sahara are the Atlantic Ocean on the west. The Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea on the north, the Red Sea and Egypt on the east, and the Sudan and the valley of the Niger River ... moreon the south. Still incredibly edged and functional Found Harlow. Essex, England Wonderful authentic neolithic examples with fabulous knapped edges and a superb variety of uses. A rare complete collection The neolithic period began around 6.000 years ago when humans first settled down and began farming. They continued to make tools from flint and some kinds of tools, such as scrapers ... morefor preparing hides, stayed the same. But the neolithic also saw the introduction of new kinds of stone tool Chipped stone tools are made from materials such as chert or flint. Radiolarite, chalcedony, basalt, quartzite and obsidian via a process known as lithic reduction. One simple form of reduction is to strike stone flakes from a core using a hammerstone If the goal of the reduction strategy is to produce flakes. The remnant core may be discarded once it has become too small to use. In some strategies, however, a flintknapper reduces the core to a rough unifacial or bifacial preform, which is further reduced using soft hammer flaking techniques or by pressure flaking the edges. More complex forms of reduction include the production of highly standardized tools, which can then be fashioned into a variety of implements such as scrapers, sickles and microliths Please see photos for exact condition Box is for display only and not part of the auction Low start and no reserve I aim for no less than 5 star feedback on all my items. EUROPEAN STONE AGE ARTIFACTS BY PALATINA AUTHENTICITY GUARANTEED Description dating 5600/5500-4900 bc. and 50 partly ornamented sherds from different Middle European Neolithic Band cultures. The Linear Pottery culture or(German) Linearbandkeramik(abbr. LBK) Bandkeramik, Linear Band Pottery culture, Linear(Band) Ware culture, Linear Ceramics culture, Danubian I culture of V. Gordon Childe, Early Danubian culture or Incised Ware Group is a major archaeological horizon of the European Neolithic(stone age) flourishing ca. 5500—4500 BC. The heaviest concentrations are on the middle Danube, the upper and middle Elbe, and the upper and middle Rhine. The LBK represents the advent of agriculture into this part of the world. The LBK at maximum extent ranged from about the line of the Seine—Oise(Paris Basin) eastward to the line of the Vistula and upper ... moreDniester, and southward to the line of the upper Danube down to the big bend. An extension ran through the Western Bug river valley, leaped to the valley of the Dniester, and swerved southward from the middle Dniester to the lower Danube in eastern Romania, east of the Carpathians. Danube lands near Vienna, by Johann Christian Brand, ca. 1760The LBK did not begin with this range and only reached it toward the end of its time. It began in regions of densest occupation on the middle Danube(Bohemia, Moravia, Hungary) and spread over about 1500 km along the rivers in 360 years. The rate of expansion was therefore about 4 km per year, which can hardly be called an invasion or a wave and does not offer much support to theories of population replacement. A model of gradual colonization is perhaps most apt. The LBK was concentrated somewhat inland from the coastal areas; i.e. it is not evidenced in Denmark or the northern coastal strips of Germany and Poland, or the coast of the Black Sea in Romania. The northern coastal regions remained occupied by Mesolithic cultures exploiting the then fabulously rich Atlantic salmon runs. There are lighter concentrations of LBK in the

But j udging by the patina I would say this is an ancient br eak. Nicely knapped and beautiful brown patina. The handle is quite interesting. It seem s to have been knapped to make a firelighter/st rike-a-light. The k napping also is worth noting. It ha s got a lovely stitch down both sides, which has been ground sli ghtly and one of the faces ha s been polished down. It is a great study piece and although I w ould never do it myself. This dagger could eas ily be re novated. This dagger was found in south Sjælland(east Denmark) It is part of an old collection dating back to the 1840's.

ANTIQUE ANCIENT CHINESE POTTERY JADE BRONZE -NEOLITHIC & ARCHAIC & HAN DYNASTY
A Walk Through the Ages. Chinese Archaic Art from the Sondra Landy Gross Collection” By Edited by Richard A. Pegg. Published by the Hillwood Art Museum in 2004. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The 2004 press release commented- The exhibit will feature more than 40 objects in ceramic. Jade and bronze ranging in date from 3400 BCE in the Neolithic Period through the Eastern Han Dynasty in 220 CE. The objects are both decorative and utilitarian, reflecting advances in technology and ideological shifts in ancient China. The ancient Chinese belief that earthly goods must accompany the deceased into the afterlife sustained the production of many ceramic and bronze containers to hold food, grains and wine. The exhibition features a variety of such containers, including a painted pottery jar from the Neolithic Period and a pair ... moreof bronze tripod vessels from the Late Shang-Early Western Zhou Dynasty. A number of purely decorative pieces are included in this exhibit, including the figure of a crouching feline made of bronze with gilding, and gold and turquoise inlays. Jade carvings, particularly those of pig-dragons, were popular in the Neolithic period. Often associated with burial rights as religious amulets, pig-dragons were sometimes placed on top of burial mounds and altars, as well as within burial mounds. The artwork included in this exhibition reflects drastic changes in human history from the stone age to the bronze age and the effects of new forms of technology developed by the Chinese, says Barry Stern, director of Hillwood Art Museum. These objects also give us a rare view into the lives of people in Ancient China' DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 9.5"x12" 224 pages, color illustrations. CONDITION NOTES: Minor soil. Neolithic Hongshan Jade Pendant Amulet Carving The approximate size: 90MM(Height)45MM(Width)20MM(Depth) Material: Old Jade Historical Period: late Neolithic Weight:150g The Chinese regard carved jade objects as intrinsically valuable. And they metaphorically equate jade with human virtue due to its solidity, durability and(moral) beauty. Many countries boast a jade ware culture. But none of them can match China's long jadeware history. In China, jadeware underwent a long process of development beginning from the New Stone Age 10,000 years ago.The patterns of China's jadeware have rich connotations, revealing strong, auspicious colors. Bats and gourds were used as subjects for more than 100 patterns because the Chinese words"bat" ... moreand"gourd" sound like"good fortune" in Chinese. When a bat was carved on an ancient coin with a hole, it meant that fortune was at hand; bats coupled with birthday peaches referred to fortune and longevity; bats mixed with sika, birthday peaches and magpies were also considered good omens. These beliefs reflected the ancient Chinese people's yearning for a happy life and revealed the essence of China's traditional culture. Jade in China is varied and can be divided into two categories: hard and soft jade. Good materials provide a strong basis for jadeware carving. But the value of a jade object depends on the skills and reputation of the craftsman, date of carving, peculiar modeling and the owner's status.
