CLASSIFICATION: Black-Rust Glazed CeramicBowl(Precursor to“Oil Spot” or“Hare’s Fur” Bowls) ATTRIBUTION: In the style of Ancient China. Song Dynasty(906-1279 A.D. But Most Likely an 18th or 19th Century Revival Imitative. SIZE/MEASUREMENTS: Diameter: 195 millimeters(7 7/8 inches) at top lip; 65 millimeters(2 5/8 inches) at base. Height: 89 millimeters(3 5/8 inches) CONDITION: Exceptionally good. Almost perfectly preserved. There is one rim chip which was repaired by one of our conservators(visible as an unglazed spot along the rim) Normal tiny nicks and dings, all consistent with a ceramic utensil of this age, and the normal potting blemishes(glaze pits, etc. associated with hand production. Glaze is remarkable, almost entirely intact! DETAIL: A splendid. Very large black/brown glazed earthenware bowl in the style of the Song or Jin Dynasty of Ancient China. This particular style was produced using a black glaze, high in iron oxides. In the kiln the iron would oftentimes come to the surface of the glaze, creating brown/rust-colored“oil spots” or streaky“hare’s fur” patterns on the otherwise black glaze. The style became extremely popular in ancient China, especially with Japanese Monks to whom the Chinese exported this unique and rare product. Tea bowls were the most common produce of this technique. This particular bowl is a variation of this style, where rather than a large number of spots or drips, instead larger areas of high iron glaze were used to produce these large rust-colored streaks in the otherwise black-predominated glaze. Both the tea bowls, as well as larger sized bowls such as this are relatively rare. Both styles of tea bowls as well(oil spot” and“hare’s fur” are a very sought after variation of Song

We will do the best to solve the problem Please don't miss it for your collection! This ancient treasure has waited for Hundreds of years to be held by a living admiring hand and now you have this opportunity. Note: The color may deviate a little from the picture to the real item. Description The Chinese regard carved jade objects as intrinsically valuable. And they metaphorically equate jade with human virtue due to its solidity, durability and(moral) beauty. Many countries boast a jade ware culture. But none of them can China's long jadeware history. In China, jadeware underwent a long process of development beginning from the New Stone Age 10,000 years ago.The patterns of China's jadeware have rich connotations, revealing strong, auspicious colors. Bats and gourds were used as subjects for more than 100 patterns because the Chinese words"bat" and"gourd" sound like"good fortune" in Chinese. When a bat was carved on an ancient coin with a hole, it meant that fortune was at hand; bats coupled with birthday peaches referred to fortune and longevity; bats mixed with sika, birthday peaches and magpies were also considered good omens. These beliefs reflected the ancient Chinese people's yearning for a happy life and revealed the essence of China's traditional culture. Jade in China is varied and can be divided into two categories: hard and soft jade. Good materials provide a strong basis for jadeware carving. But the value of a jade object depends on the skills and reputation of the craftsman, date of carving, peculiar modeling and the owner's status. Certainly, different people will have various views on the value of the same jade object. It is difficult to have a unanimous standard.

Neolithic Egyptian Style Point from the Sahara Desert
This is a nice Neolithic EGyptian Style Point found in the Sahara Desert. Africa. It measures 2-1/4" x 1/2" This will be an excellent addition to your Neolithic collection. Always Guaranteed Authentic! The Neolithic cultures in Africa existed 4.000- 6,000 years ago(possibly older as some new evidence suggest) throughout regions of the Sahara desert. Before the Sahara was a desert these groups thrived in its vast grasslands and fruitful jungles. Today little in known about these lost people. The sands are constantly shifting moving the sites and artifacts to different areas. Due to the sand changes, archaeological studies are very slim. Sites shift, tumble and move so there is no layering to study. Collector Grade artifacts are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. Kevin Pipes has been in the business of collecting artifacts ... moresince he was child and has been selling them for at least 30 years. He is well established in the artifact and knife communities. He can be found in the Who's Who for Indian Artifact Collectors and pieces of his collection have been featured in several books and archaeological journals. He is also distinguished by being one of the first African Neolithic collectors and importers. Since he founded Smoky Mountain Relic Room in Sevierville. TN he has handled and sold over 1,000,000 Neolithic artifacts from different regions in Africa. If for any reason you are unsatisfied with your purchase please send it back for your choice of a refund or exchange. Our only fine print for returns is that we do not refund shipping and that the item must be returned in the condition it arrived.

A rare complete collection The neolithic period began around 6.000 years ago when humans first settled down and began farming. They continued to make tools from flint and some kinds of tools, such as scrapers for preparing hides, stayed the same. But the neolithic also saw the introduction ... moreof new kinds of stone tool Chipped stone tools are made from materials such as chert or flint. Radiolarite, chalcedony, basalt, quartzite and obsidian via a process known as lithic reduction. One simple form of reduction is to strike stone flakes from a core using a hammerstone If the goal of the reduction strategy is to produce flakes. The remnant core may be discarded once it has become too small to use. In some strategies, however, a flintknapper reduces the core to a rough unifacial or bifacial preform, which is further reduced using soft hammer flaking techniques or by pressure flaking the edges. More complex forms of reduction include the production of highly standardized tools, which can then be fashioned into a variety of implements such as scrapers, sickles and microliths Please see photos for exact condition Low start and no reserve I aim for no less than 5 star feedback on all my items. Its name, Sahara, is an English pronunciation of the word for desert in Arabic. The boundaries of the Sahara are the Atlantic ... moreOcean on the west. The Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea on the north, the Red Sea and Egypt on the east, and the Sudan and the valley of the Niger River on the south. The Sahara is divided into western Sahara, the central Ahaggar Mountains, the Tibesti Mountains, the Aïr Mountains(a region of desert mountains and high plateaus) Tenere desert and the Libyan desert(the most arid region) The highest peak in the Sahara is Emi Koussi(3415 m) in the Tibesti Mountains in northern Chad. The Sahara divides the continent of Africa into North and Sub-Saharan Africa.
