The Moche civilization(alternatively. The Mochica culture, Early Chimu, Pre-Chimu, Proto-Chimu, etc. flourished in northern Peru with its capital near present-day Moche and Trujillo, from about 100 AD to 800 AD, during the Regional Development Epoch. While this issue is the subject of some debate, many scholars contend that the Moche were not politically organized as a monolithic empire or state. Rather, they were likely a group of autonomous polities that shared a common ... moreelite culture, as seen in the rich iconography and monumental architecture that survive today.Moche society was agriculturally based, with a significant level of investment in the construction of a network of irrigation canals for the diversion of river water to supply their crops. Their culture was sophisticated; and their artifacts express their lives, with detailed scenes of hunting, fishing, fighting, sacrifice, sexual encounters and elaborate ceremonies. The Moche are particularly noted for their elaborately painted ceramics, gold work, monumental constructions(huacas) and irrigation systems. Moche history may be broadly divided into three periods– the emergence of the Moche culture in Early Moche(100–300 AD) its expansion and florescence during Middle Moche(300–600 AD) and the urban nucleation and subsequent collapse in Late Moche(500–750 AD)
Exceptionally pre columbian stirrup vessel Moche Chimu with T.L. test!!!
A special stirrup vessel in a special form four roundish bodies. Probably fruits. They are interconnected and form a uniform rectangular shape similar to the Andean cross. The vessel is painted with very fine patterns. Such as water symbols in the form of meanders. The spout is held by a small monkey. Which is also working very fine. Discoloration. Abrasions, minor missing parts, in a good age related condition. A wonderful collector's item. And by his rare form a small rarity! It is often said that the quality of the Chimu Moche had never reached. But here not only the strong influence can be seen. The great reaction. Which is nothing after the Moche. Older Chimu ceramics are also called post Moche ceramics! See the price inclusive the lab test. Unbeatable! Culture: Chimu. From 900AD to 1300AD Price Offers welcome! Age: 750 years old. ... moreTL tested, new Test Document 2014 inclusive! Size approx. 8 1/2” Important for collectors who do not know my offers: it gives antiques. c1000 AD Whistling Vessell Bird Chimu Moche Peru Blackware Aerophone Ceramic
c1000 AD Whistling Vessell Bird Chimu Moche Peru Blackware Aerophone Ceramic A very rare and important double-chamber whistling bird vessel directly out of an estate collection. This bird vessel appears to be an early form of ceramic/ blackware from the Late Intermediate of the Andes region. And most likely Chimú/ Moche Culture of Peru, dating to around 1000-1200 AD. The whistling mechanism is inside the bird shaped spout. As air is forced past the whistle. A bird-like whistling sound is created. Andean whistling vessels belong to a tradition beginning in 1000 B.C. and they are still made today. There are two varieties of whistling vessels: one variety has a stirrup spout while the other variety is a two-chambered vessel. Two chambered vessels. Like those tested by Parga, can be tested either by blowing into the spout just as one would ... morewith an ordinary whistle, or alternatively, by simply tipping the vessel when it's partially filled with water. That's right; no blowing is required. A very similar example to this piece can be found in Spain at the Museo de América de Madrid: Overall very good condition. Normal amounts of wear from use and age. I find no serious chips, cracks, or repairs. Measurements: 5 1/2" H x 7 1/2" W. Please study the photos and ask any questions before bidding. As I did my own research and am not an expert in this field. Tonight I am listing a collection of artifacts that came from one box found in the attic of an East Hanover. NJ estate. The collection spans the time frames from Early Archaic, the Transitional Period, and the Late Woodland period. The lady had many family antiques that had descended from her wealthy grandparents from Providence, RI. There were nothing else in the estate quite like this, so it's a bit of a mystery. The only information that was found with the items was a note on the box that read: Harry Pierce/ 1947" I tried to look up this name, but had no such luck. The last name did not relate to the last name of the lady who owned the

Although the Moche had no writing system. They left a vivid artistic record of their beliefs and activities in beautifully modeled and painted ceramic vessels, remarkable objects of gold, silver, and copper, sumptuous textiles, and carved and inlaid bone, wood, and stone. Tens of thousands of these objects can be seen today in museums and private collections throughout the world. Unfortunately. Nearly all of them have been looted from Moche tombs by grave robbers, and thus there is no record of the grave, or the archaeological site, or even the valley from which they came. This lack of information severely limits what could have been learned about the Moche if the graves had been excavated archaeologically and their contents systematically recorded. This study focuses on five extraordinary Moche tombs that were archaeologically excavated at the site of Dos Cabezas(between 1997 and 2000) The tombs are remarkable not only for the wealth of objects they contained but also because we know how the tombs were constructed. How they relate to one another both spatially and temporally, and what individuals they contained. The tombs provide an unusual oppor

About Moche Culture: Moche, also called Mochica. Civilization present on the northern coast of what is now Peru from the 1st to the 8th century ad and dominant during the Early Intermediate Period( c. 400 bc– ad 600) The name is taken from the great site of Moche. In the river valley of the same name, which appears to have been the capital or chief city of the Moche peoples. Their settlements extended along the ... morehot, arid coast of northern Peru from the Lambayeque River valley south for more than 215 miles(350 km) to the Nepeña River valley. Until the 1980s the culture’s best-known remains were those of Moche itself. Near Trujillo in the Moche River valley. Two giant structures, known as the Temple of the Sun(Huaca del Sol) and the Temple of the Moon(Huaca de la Luna) Dominate the site, though there is no evidence that they were ever so dedicated. The Temple of the Sun is a causeway and stepped pyramid, about 1,090 by 446 feet(340 by 136 metres) at the base and 135 feet(41 metres) high. A short distance away, the Temple of the Moon is a terraced platform built against a natural hillside and capped with large rooms and courtyards. Over the surrounding ground, for several hundred metres in all directions, are evidences of a dense occupation, indicating that Moche was not only a political and ceremonial centre but also a city. In 1987 archaeologists excavated a site called Huaca Rajada. Near the village of Sipán in the Lambayeque valley, and uncovered the elaborate, jewelry-filled tomb of a Moche warrior-priest. Several more burial chambers containing the remains of Moche royalty

The papers in this compilation grew from a conference on the Moche held at Austin in 2003. Edited by Bourget and Jones. Pre-Columbian art specialists at the University of Austin, the collection is an excellent example of the current trend in cross-disciplinary work. The art found depicting warfare and human sacrifice is reflected in the ... morebones of the warriors and sacrificial victims. Mitochondrial studies help determine the relationships of the dead. There are articles on metallurgy and weaving, the latter still considered women's work. Biological quests for a symbolic fruit, the ulluchu and the type of spider shown in many forms demonstrate how finding the correct type of living thing can help explain why it was so important to the Moche. Controversial and exciting is the theory that Moche culture was destroyed due to climate changes brought about by extreme el niño activity. Inca Treasures Pre Columbian Terraca Moche Skull Bottle artifact vessel art COA
A rare and very unique Moche IV pottery skull bottle/vessel/head artifact that is very unusual. It has sunken eyes and teeth in mouth with a cranial protrusion representing the head of a dead person that may return from the dead. It has a stirrup type handle with spout and a very bizarre countenance but it is most interesting even if eerie. Painted with black outlines on lips and striped and triangular designs on forehead. Ears done in white. I don't know the meaning of the lump on the forehead but maybe the poor fellow was hit with a club. He seems happy enough. A really ingtriuing piece for the collector. I purchased it from Arte Xibalba Gallery and it comes with a COA. I love the piece. Its so ugly you can't help but love him. Culture: Moche. Peru. CA: 450 to 550AD. Pre-Columbian Effigy Bowl Zoomorphic Alligator Crocodile Caiman Colima Moche ?
Perhaps my favorite piece form the Collection I am selling. I offer this exquisite and RARE piece for your Bidding Consideration in this Auction is a Pre-Colombian Zoomorphic Ceramic Bowl, or lid( with 2 Crocodilian(most likely Caiman inspired) figures protruding from the top section. The craftsmanship is wonderful. My impression of the piece is it resembles Caimans, or Alligators, being hatched and emerging from the egg shell. In that light, may have been used in fertility ceremonies. Note the Geometric design of incised lines on the top. I have not been able to determine exact culture it is from but it has similarities to each of Colima, Moche and even Mayan and possibly others so please view photos carefully for your determination. It measures@ 3" tall x 6 7/8" wide at the widest part. Please view photos for your consideration. ... moreNo chips, cracks or repairs- in very nice condition! Please note. Ancient Peru, Moche ovoid pottery jar or bottle 200 to 800 AD antiquities
A Moche/possibly early Chimu ovoid jar with a mold face. Pierced ears and a decorated area of some kind of creature with sharp teeth. Ribbons out of mouth would seem to indicate a religious significance for the pot. It is seven inches tall, six inches across at longest side and four inches deep. Semi rounded bottom. This appears to be intact. It would probably date fairly late in the Moche period, possibly 600 to 800 AD. This is from an old collection. Provenance will be provided to the buyer. In spite of being from an old collection, sale outside the United States would be problematic. Therefore I will only accept bids from the US. Please ask any questions or make requests for more pictures before bidding as I will not allow returns. EXCEPT. If with in thirty days of purchase you can provide a written statement from a recognized dealer, ... moreauctioneer or museum curator that this is not genuine. I will refund shipping and your bid upon receipt of the piece. I will be selling pieces from my collection over the next couple of weeks. All are guaranteed old. Later will come the tuition pieces that I bought starting out as old but aren't. I would prefer no bids from Wisconsin as I do not yet have a Wisconsin Sales Tax number.
Ancient Pre-Columbian Moche bottle Circa 300-700 AD
A Moche Stirrup-spout bottle depicting two marine creatures facing each other. With snails marching above them. Circa 300-700 AD. Measuring 8“ high x 5 ½“ Diameter Approx. Throughout Moche history. This creatures were portrayed in a wide range of complex scenes, such as combats with supernatural creatures. There is some lost of paint and chips along the piece as expected for its age. But you can definitively appreciate the craftsmanship of the ancient artist. I purchased this piece from a dealer in an antique show in Miami. FL in 2005, who claimed acquiring the piece in 1956 on one of his travels to Central America. The Moche civilization flourished in northern Peru from 100 AD to 800 AD. Many scholars contend that the Moche were likely a group of autonomous polities that shared a common elite culture. As seen in the rich iconography ... moreand monumental architecture that survive today. Stirrup-spout bottles were the privileged ceramic medium used by Moche artists in the expression of complex ideological messages. Moche slip-painted vessels were typically bichrome. With red decoration on white/cream background. This bottle dates from the Moche apogee period(300–700) during which the fineline painting tradition was used to create a great diversity of narrative scenes. Moche society was agriculturally based. And their artifacts express their lives, with detailed scenes of hunting, fishing, fighting, sacrifice, sexual encounters and elaborate ceremonies. The Moche are particularly noted for their elaborately painted ceramic(like the one here for sale) monumental constructions and their irrigation systems. I am a collector with over 20 years of experience in the hobby; I have acquired many interesting pieces around the world. Anywhere from private collections to highly known auction houses. But now I have reached the time on my life on which I have to start setting up my retirement. So I have taken the tough decision to depart with some pieces of my collection and let a new owner enjoy them as I did. During the next

Sican Culture Ceremonial Knife(Tumi) held at the Tumi. The Tumi is a sacrificial ceremonial distinctly characterized by a semi-circular blade. Made of either bronze, copper, gold-alloy, wood, or silver alloy usually made of one piece and used by some and pre-Inca cultures in the Peruvian Coastal Region. In Andean mythology. The Moche, Chimu, and Incas were descendants of the Sun, which had to be worshiped annually with an extravagant celebration. The festival took place at the end of the potato and maize harvest in order to thank the Sun for the abundant crops or to ask for better crops during the next season. During this important religious ceremony. The High Priest would sacrifice a completely black or white llama. Using a tumi, he would open the animal's chest and with his hands pull out its throbbing heart, lungs and viscera, so that observing those elements he could foretell the future. Later. The animal and its parts were com
