Pre-Columbian MEZCALA STONE PECTORAL MASK w/ROGERS COA
Here is a superb. Museum-quality carved stone mask of abstract form. This remarkable artifact is 4.5” 11.4cm) x 3.25” 8.2cm) x 2” 5 cm) unmounted and 5.5” 14cm) overall height. Mounted on a custom-built display stand. There are two small inscriptions; 1515” and“Guerrero” written in black ink on the reverse. Despite a bilaterally-drilled suspension perforation near the top of the head. This mask’s massive size and hefty weight of nearly 1.5 lbs. makes it appear unlikely to have served as a cosmetic adornment for the living but more probably as a mortuary bundle attachment for a personage of high rank. Although impeded by primitive tools. Mezcala artisans created highly stylized stone figures and masks. As is clearly evident in this museum-grade anthropomorphic exemplar. Without chips. Cracks, scratches, repairs or restoration, this lustrous ... moreand magnificently abstract work of ancient sculpture is in excellent condition. I am fairly unfamiliar with South American artifacts, and rather than attempt to attribute it, I will let you decide what culture it came from.
Mezcala Stone Amulet - CK.0023
Origin: Guerrero. Mexico Circa: 300 BC to 300 AD Dimensions: 2.5" 6.4cm) high x 1" 2.5cm) wide Collection: Pre-Columbian Medium: Stone Along the region of the Rio Mezcala in the Central portion of the Mexican state of Guerrero. An ancient culture evolved which created highly expressive and powerful stone ritual objects. Possibly springing from the same roots as the famous Olmec culture, the people of Mezcala imbued Celts, axes used for hafting, with both magical and spiritual symbolism. The talented Mezcala artists who created these dynamic ritual Celts developed a powerful, expressive style of abstraction remarkably close to that of many modern artists. This amulet is a smaller version of larger sized Mezcala idols. Its diminutive nature suggests it may have been carried by its owner during travels. The form of the piece is divided ... moreinto three segments: the head on top. Torso in the middle, and legs at the bottom. The most dominant facial features are the eyes, although additional incised lines demarcate the mouth, nose, cheeks, and forehead. This little amulet surely once served some important ceremonial or religious function, the meaning of which has been lost to us. It's power, however, remains as potent as it ever was. ec2.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fvo%7B%3Dd70f%2B%3Eec2-14933b54cf8-0x106-

Ancient Mezcala Jade Stone Statue Artifact Pre-Columbian Rare Style NR
Hi. I have a very nice Mezcala statue for auction. I own a few different Mezcala figures, and have seen hundreds. This one is different. Most of the Mezcala figures are thicker, this is very thin. It is no more than a quarter inch thick. This statuem was made with an arrowhead drill technique. You can visibly see all the spots all around it where it was hand drilled to cut and scuplt it. This drilling is the same way that they drill out the top of a pendant for suspension. This piece has visible weathering and there is no denying it's age. It dates 200 BC- 200AD. I made the stand to make it more presentable, and it's included. It's a shame that it wasn't recovered with the other leg intact. This came from an old collection. The half dollar is for size comparison only and is not included in this auction. I combine shipping. ... moreThanks for looking. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: No breaks, chips, or repairs. Overall patina from handling and age. Small amounts of soil encrustation in the tiny pores of the stone and crevices. HISTORY: The Pre-Columbian Mezcala Culture is a little understood culture that was based in present-day Guerrero. Mexico. A long, complex culture history of the Guerrero region prevents a finite understanding of who exactly made Mezcala objects. The culture is also called Balsas Culture because it is centered in the upper Balsas River drainage region. It is believed the Mezcala style emerged during the Pre-classic Period, between 700-200 B.C. and continued on into Classic Period to 650 A.D. Objects attributed to the the Mezcala Culture include figurines. Masks, small effigies of animals and objects, beads, pendants and earplug flares. They are carved from a variety of green, gray-green, gray and black color hardstones and jade. The art style is so unique that Mezcala objects are readily recognized for their abstract and minimalist anatomical features. Some Mezcala

Mezcala Green Stone Head Ancient Artifact Pre-Columbian Mayan NR
Hi I have a Mezcala Guerrero green stone head for auction. This Mezcala head is quite different than most that you see. Because of the hat. Rarely do you ever see a hat on a Mezcala figure, let alone a round one like this. That's one of the reasons I acquired this many years ago from an old collection. The face is stylized in typical Mezcala style. This piece dates to their later period 200-600 AD. The Mezcala artifacts were valued by other cultures as well. Mezcala artifacts have been recovered in Aztec sites, Teotihuacan, and others. The half dollar is for size comparison only and is not included in this auction. I combine shipping. Awesome Mezcala Mayan Jade Ear Rings Pre-Columbian Ancient Artifacts NR
Hi. I have an awesome pair of Mezcala ear studs for auction. These are very cool and very rare. I have only seen a couple like these over the last 20 years. They are carved from jade. There is an ancient fracture on the post of one of them, but it is stable. I tried to get a picture of it. I purchased these several years ago from an old collection. These are very cool ancient artifacts that are still wearable. These date 200 BC- 600 AD. There are visible mineral deposits on the faces of them. These would be an awesome addition to any collection. Don't miss the opportunity to own these beauties, you probably won't see anything like them again. I use a half dollar for size comparison and it is not included in this auction. I can combine shipping. Thanks for looking.

Mezcala Collection Stone Bone Coral Ancient Artifacts Pre-Columbian Mayan NR
Hi. I have a great collection of Mezcala Guerro artifacts for auction. The majority of these artifacts are stone. There is one bone piece that had to be for draining liquid or something similar. There is a coral stamp artifact. This appears to be coral or a light volcanic stone. It has handle feature that makes me think that this was used as a pottery stamp. There is a Mezcala axe figure made out of volcanic stone. There is a stone piece that looks like it was being made into a pendant. In the same picture is a cresent shaped stone piece. It might have been used for gouging and marking things. There are 2 stone perforated discs, probably used for beads. There is a stone scraper. Lastly there is an awesome mottled stone bead with four drilled holes. These all came from an old collection. These artifacts date to 200 BC-400AD. These would look ... moregreat in a display together. These are some great pieces of history, that now can be yours. I use a half dollar for size comparison and it is not included in this auction. Mezcala Guerro Jade Pendant Pre-Columbian Ancient Artifact. Stone Mayan NR
Hi. I have a great Mezcala Guerro jade axe pendant for auction. This Mexcala axe pendant has unusual form with it being almost triangular in shape. This carved stone still has red visible in the lines of it. The red would either be cinnabar or paint. This ancient artifact is circa 100BC-300AD. There are visible mineral deposits at the perforation, and it has great patina to it. I bought this many years ago from an old collection. This is an ancient piece of history, that now can be yours. I use a half dollar for size comparison only and it is not included in this auction. I can combine shipping. Thanks for looking.
