One Ceramic Pre-Classic Mayan Female Figure from PLAYA DE LOS MUERTOS. ULUA VALLEY, HONDURAS, measuring 6-1/4" high and dates in the early Pre-Columbian period. 600 to 300 BC. It is obviously a pregant female indicated by her breasts and the protruding stomach. She wears a simple headdress and simple ear spools. The figure is solid. Dense and heavy weighing about 1-1/2 pounds indicative of the Pre-Classic era. The surface is quite dark which may indicate the type of clay in the area. How it was processed or what was in the soil where it was buried. Excellent example of a Pre-Classic figure especially the eye design. This is a vintage Mexican bracelet and earring set. The bracelet is marked Taxco Sterling.925 and each earring is marked.925 sterling. The bracelet is 7.5" x 1" made of what appears to be black onyx stones 1" x 3/4" and onyx heads with silver. A matching pair of screw on earrings is included in the listing. I've seen a couple of these for sale. And they are usually missing at least one of the dangle earrings on the face. These are all intact. I am not a jewelry expert and have not had this appraised. This is a Historically significant piece for several reasons! In the early ninth century A.D Aguateca was the capital of a powerful Maya dynasty in what is now Guatemala Stela#2 commemorates a victory over Seibal in the year 735 AD, It was erected by the third ruler of Dos Pilas(who it portrays) Attempted theft of the stela in 1975 left it cracked and broken, therefore a rubbing like this can never be made again. This rubbing was done in 1972. Two years later in 1974 this Stela was cut up in an attempted theft. It was later returned to the site. But now has cracks. Joan W. Patten(1924-2005) was an American Sculptor. And former Olympic Diver from California. Her rubbings of Classic and Pre-classic Mayan Sculptures adorn many Museums and Universities throughout the world. Unique vintage Mayan/ Aztec style painted metal ice bucket or covered dish. This piece measures approximately 11" tall x 7 1/2" in diameter at top. Inside is a mint green plastic bowl and plastic lid secured into the piece. I was able to lift the bowl just enough to see the inside does have a lining of styrofoam. Confirming it being an ice bucket. The bucket weighs approximately 5 pounds +. This is a very cool piece I found on in an Antique shop on Main Street in historic Natchez, Mississippi. Beautiful. Guatemalan, vintage, brocaded, huipil circa 1950's from the Chajul region. Mayan women in Guatemala weave and wear a labor-intensive indigenous garment called a huipil. This particular huipil is made of very tightly woven blue wool panels with mult-colored brocaded cotton embroidery in a pattern depicting traditional indigenous fox motifs. Blouse measures 30 by 21 inches and has minimal wear or fading. Huipil was collected by former owner in the 1950's. Guatemalan Huipils. Are the traditional blouses that Mayan women and their daughters in Guatemala have worn for centuries. They are still the traditional attire of indigenous Guatemalans and a few other Latin American Mayan cultures today. These beautiful blouses are of great cultural significance to contemporary Mayan culture, and help to identify the individual personality ... moreand the village from where the wearer lives, as well as her marital, social and religious status. The patterns and meanings on the huipils harken back to the days of Ancient Mayan civilization and have remained the same over the years.
