The interior includes geometric patterns and ... morelines, and a zoomorphic condor or mythical bird within a fiery circle in the center of the interior. This circle is mirrored on the inside of and overlapping the top of the rim. The exterior and interior have two black lines around the center with a weave pattern in the interior between the uppermost line and the rim. All three legs are also decorated. The bowl has a rounded bottom and curved sides with a slightly flared rim, and the ovoid legs are hollow and contain rattles. In excellent condition, although visible flaking has occurred, with mineral deposits normal for its age and only a very few minor nicks. Original condition, not restored. Estimated age of 300 BCE- 300 CE. Approx. 6” diameter x 3 1/8” high with the bowl about 2 ½” deep.Provenance- This item was recently purchased from the estate of the late Willis Pratt, a career academic at the University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Pratt owned a residence in Guanajuato and frequently visited Central Mexico between the mid 1930’s and mid 1960’s. Up for sale is this Millersburg"Mayan" Green Carnival Glass Bowl. Seldom Seen. Antique Millersburg glass is Turn of the century early carnival glass. Nice clean bowl with even radium iridescence. This bowl is in very good condition with no cracks, or scratches, however this is early carnival glass with the normal imperfections- there is a small chip on one of the scalloped edges of the bowl but it has glazing over part of it so we believe that this is a manufacturer imperfection. This bowl measures 9 inches in diameter and stands 2 and 1/8 inches tall. This is a lovely example of early Carnival glass with subtle shades of pink, green and blue. Vintage Guatemalan dance mask. This mask was made to be used in the Dance of the Conquest. A ritual dance performed annually in several indigenous Mayan villages in Guatemala. The dance tells the story of the Spanish conquest of Guatemala. Mostly from the viewpoint of the conquered Mayan peoples. The mask could represent Pedro de Alvarado, the ruthless and cruel Spanish conquistador who violently subdued the indigenous population and become Guatemala's first governor under Spanish rule. Even though de Alvarado was the only of the Spaniards with blond hair and very light skin. All of the Spaniards in the dance wear masks with blond hair, moustache and beard, as a way to racially distinguish them from the Mayan dancers. This mask was purchased in Antigua. This cool stone has some kind of god etched on either side and has a hole through the middle. It measures 3" by 1 1/2" by 3/4" thick. It is the shape of a large Bic lighter and has a design etched above and below the god figure. It is virtually the same on both sides. I have no idea what it is. This is an interesting wall plaque that depicts what I believe is a Mayan or Aztec god or warrior. It is a vintage reproduction of ancient pieces of art. The figure is made of some sort of resin. With thousands of tiny pieces making up the figure. This is somewhat evocative of a mosaic. The figure is mounted on a wooden back. The backing is about 10 1/8" x 12 5/8" and the resin figure is about 10.25" x 7.5" The plaque has wear from handling, but is in good condition. Ornamental eating utensils. Not really sure what this piece is. Other than beautifully ugly. Flute? Whistle? Folk art? Made of clay and does make sound when you blow into its tail. I do not know how to play it, so not sure what tunes it makes. I have been told it may be from Peru, or Mexico, or somewhere else. It does appear that the head may have been reattached, but I am not sure. Looks like a line around the neck. About 8" long and 3.5" tall at the ears. No pieces broken off. Mexican Silver Mayan Aztec Calendar Ashtray on Pyramid Of Green Stone Vintage
Gorgeous vintage Mexican silver ashtray on top of a carved green stone pyramid. Chatacterizing the steps up to the ancient pyramids in Mexico. The detail in the silver is truly awsome. It does seem to have a mark in the wind symbol of the calendar(see pics) but I do not find it unpleasant and considering this is an very old ashtray! 2 1/2" tall and 4" widest corner to corner of pyramid. The silversmith mark is TVE surrounded in an"eye" shape saying"Echo en Mexico" It is marked 800 that i can see but that makes sense for an ashtray. I love this piece! Here is a Mayan eccentric or exotic from the Yucatan Peninsula of South America. These items were thought to have been used as an offering to the underworld gods asking their premission to enter their domain(a cave) The Maya could then ask a blessing or maybe advice on some delima they were facing. This one appears to be a form of a llama it has one side that is the head and ears then you see the body with the tail at the other end forming the other side appearing to show a face maybe of a underworld god or the chief of their clan. There is another matching smaller face(twin) at the neck on the other side(llama) There may have been something at the tip of that side. 12" Hammered Copper Aztec/Mayan Calendar Plate Souvenir Folk Art Wall Hanging
This is a very pretty. But fairly crudely made metal souvenir plate. It is hand enameled/painted with an Aztec or Mayan, maybe even Incan, I can never remember the difference, calendar. The number below the design is M XI O(year 511? I think it is copper. But the back looks a little more like brass- so I'm not completely sure of material. It is just about 1 foot across and has some corrosion spots from age and wear marks from being stacked with other plates. Still looks shiny though. It does have a hook on the back for hanging. Very Rare Mayan Jadeite amulet bead. Sourced in the Highlands of Guatemala. This bead was crafted from true Mayan Apple Green Jadeite(next down on the scale from Imperial Jadeite) This is a VERY old bead, as can be seen from both the patina and the stringing hole wear. The body of the piece was minimally shaped, likely to preserve every bit of the precious bright green jadeite. But the face is full of character and detail. Good ancient condition.
