~ Primitive Vintage 1940s Jalisco Guadalajara Mexican Clay Pottery Bowl ~
Old clay pottery bowl from Guadalajara. Mexico. This dates back to somewhere in the 40s-50s eras. This may be from Oaxaca or Tonala; I lean toward Oaxaca. Though it has shades of Michoacan pottery too. Handsome colors: deep. Rich shades of evergreen and daffodil yellow, with the soft green created when the two overlap. The base pottery is the rougher yellowish type found in a number of old styles; the bowl is hand-thrown. Rather minor wear for a piece of this age and this material; one small flake from rim that appears glazed over so might have happened during creation. There are a few spots visible inside the bowl that are actually relics of the creative process and not wear or damage. Probably could use a good scrubbing; it was in storage for some time and I've only dusted it. Measures about 5.5" in diameter at rim and 2.5" ... moredeep. Due to its age and iridescence it is not suitable for food use. But you wouldn't want to cover up its beauty anyway. Handsome piece that's very evocative of Old Mexico; perfect complement for a collection of vintage Mexicana or southwestern decor. Shipping: please use the calculator. Sadly. One small pitcher measuring 4 1/2 inches tall and two small butter pat sized plates measuring 3 3/4 inches in diameter. The pitcher is decorated in the Petatillo style with agave. Cactus, a sleeping figure in a sombrero and sarape and a large bucket or something similar. The plates are in the grained style with stipling. One has fish, florals and a hummingbird and the other has flowers and a hummingbird. The plates are in excelletnt condition. The pitcher has a bit of wear and a shallow glazed over chip on the foot that appears to be done in the making. These charming pieces are offered with a low starting bid and no reserve. Folk Yarn art from the Huichol peoples of Jalisco/Nayarit Mexico. We are pleased to be able to offer for your consideration this colorful piece of Folk yarn art from Mexico. The folk artist of the Huichol peoples from the Jalisco/ Nayarit region of Mexico have become well known for their colorful yarn art. The panel offered is a fine example of this folk art technique. The Huichol yarn paintings consist of commercial yarn pressed into boards coated with wax and resin and are derived from a ceremonial tablet called a nearika. These yarn paintings first appeared in 1962 in Guadalajara and were derived from“nierikas” a small board or disc with a hole or mirror in the center. Nierikas were initially produced by shamans to represent visions they experienced while consuming peyote. Then left as offerings to the gods in places such as caves, temples ... moreand streams. These modern yarn paintings quickly proved popular and were imitated. They have also developed into complex designs which can take weeks to complete. This panel looks to be very much in keeping with some Shamanic vision. The figures rendered in this design are very abstract. The writing. In Spanish, on the back of this panel we believe, explains the meaning. This framed yarn art panel is approximately 23 7/8 inches square. Mounted under glass in a simple matte black frame that measures 25 1/4 inches square. This framed panel weighs approximately 8 pounds. Vintage Mexican Pottery - Large Platter - Possibly Tlaquepaque Jalisco
Vintage Mexican pottery is DEFINITELY not my strong suit. But I BELIEVE this mid-century platter is from the Tlaquepaque region of Mexico. It measures about 12" x 11 1/2" x 2" There is no doubt it is folk art: no factory-made feel about this piece. It has the typical wear and abrasion of pottery from that time. There are dozens(hundreds? of what at first appeared to be water spots- mostly on the topside of the platter. They did not wash off with water, but it seems that some of them would scrape off with a fingernail. Being the non-expert that I am, I decided to leave them alone. If you want them removed, sharpen up your fingernails and have at it! Please feel free to ask for additional pictures and/or information.

It was located near the town of Tequila(Please see map below) in the State of Jalisco. Mexico. It is dated 1857 and was issued by Lazaro J. Gallardo. The Token has been counterstamped or countermarked with the figure of a Horse. A tavern owner and tequila producer. Lazaro Gallardo invented a unique tequila making process. This unique process blended newly rested tequilas with the smoothest, aged tequila reserves creating the highest quality and best tasting tequila available. Weight: 11.18 Gram. 27.5 Millimeter, Copper or Brass. Latin American Tokens by Russell Rulau#Jal-146. Rulau lists it as 27 Millimeter and calls it Copper. Tokens of Mexico by Frank W. Grove#1443. Roy Dimitri Parsons, famed artist. Both Dimitri and his wife were avid travelers and loved to obtain old antiquities and art throughout their travels; sometimes by trading their art. We had someone very knowledgable in pre-HIspanic art look at this and he stated that there appeared to be some mineral deposits. But could not date this piece. Just saying that it is at least as old at the 1960's if not before and that with this level of artistry and detail, it's a nice acquisition.
