Is hand thrown in red earthenware(terracotta) ... morepottery of large chunky footed form with undulating rounded well and flattened wide rim. It is finely hand painted in shades of underglaze black with a lotus flower design and glazed in rich greenish blue turquoise glaze. There are yellow and green highlighted jewel spots and the back has a dark jade green glaze. It has the typical three kiln support marks to the front where the dishes where stacked in the kiln, these are filled and hand painted with paints after firing and the border of the rim is also painted in black. This gorgeous old piece is marked to the base'SAFI' one of the two main historical pottery towns in Morocco. It has two large holes in the foot rim on opposite sides for hanging on the wall. There are three large chunky chips around the edge of the bowl, one of these has an old repair of filler and is touched up in green, the other two have dark stained touch up. The black painted rim edge is quite worn and there are cutlery marks and scratches to the surface of the well and rim, all conducive with its age and use, otherwise it is in good condition(please see photos) Height min 6.5cm. 2& 9/16" inches) maximum 7.3cm, 2& 7/8" inches) diameter 33.2cm, 13& 1/16" inches) unpacked weight 1426 grams. Islamic Mediterranean Morracon Middle East Pottery Vase Bottle Safi Iafi Rare
This vase or bottle is unmarked. I can feel the inside and it is glazed as far as I can reach my finger. Outside is also glazed but the outer bottom rim is not. It stands 9 1/2" tall x 1" top opening x 3" at bottom. With all the research I have done I think it was made by Ierghini Iafi or Serghini Safi. Could be Middle eastern. Or Moroccan pottery, maybe even European, I'm so confused with this. It is awesome though and would make a very good addition to any pottery collection! See pictures. 19th C INDO-PERSIAN ISLAMIC IZNIK POTTERY VASE Cobalt & Turquoise Blue Floral
Offered is an antique INDO-PERSIAN ISLAMIC TURKISH IZNIK KUTAHYA SINDH MULTAN POTTERY VASE with splayed footed base and flared top rim. I believe it hails from the second half of the 19th Century. Circa 1850- 1900, possibly earlier. I am not an expert, so will leave all final determinations to you. What I do know though, is that this is a scarce, outstanding piece! This bottle vase was hand thrown from a pale red clay on a kick wheel. Then covered with white slip. Then the cobalt blue and turquoise trailing Hatayi or Saz flowers& leaves below the arabesque or flame pattern decoration was hand painted within dark blue outlining. Then the entire vase was covered with a clear glaze. Then it was fired in an outdoor kiln. This was the traditional, labor-intensive process for this type of majolica pottery- also a clue as to its age and authenticity. ... moreThis vase measures 6 3/8" high x 4 1/4" across the widest diameter. It measures 2 3/4" across the top opening. And 3" across the base foot ring. It is in remarkably good condition for this type of old pottery. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. There are some glaze flakes on the top edge and on the foot ring edge(see photos) The glaze has achieved overall age crazing. An altogether beautiful rare piece for the advanced collector. SORRY. Offered is another PERSIAN ISLAMIC FOOTED POTTERY BOWL. This is a small one that I found in a London antique shop many years ago. I am not an expert. But my research has led me to believe it was made in the Tabriz or Yadz, circa 1950's. The cobalt blue and white glaze decoration features one beautiful flower in the center well of the bowl, surrounded by wide bands of solid blue, and dots& leaf bands on the inside and outside. I think the dots are berries, and the brush swishes are birds. This is a small bowl with wide flaring rim. Measuring 4" across x 1 3/4" deep. It is in really excellent old condition with no damage at all. All the white spots you may see in the photos are either where the artist missed the blue, or light glare. Offered is a beautiful antique ISLAMIC OTTOMAN TURKISH KUTAHYA POTTERY VASE. It is of baluster bottle form with a high neck and ruffled rim. I think it hails from early 20th Century 1930's- 1940's. I found it years ago in a Paris. France antique market. It was wheel-thrown from a buff colored clay. Then graced with an intricate hand painted design in polychrome glaze colors iron red, blue and green with black outlines- all against a very, very pale turquoise-green background. The inside was also glazed in that same very pale color. Though I am by no means an expert, this ware may fall into the category of Turkish Majolica. This fabulous vase measures 5 3/4" high x 3 3/4" across the widest diameter. It measures 2 3/4" across the top opening. Offered is a superlative. Very old PERSIAN ISLAMIC FOOTED BOWL with deep blue glaze decoration of leaves, flowers and a gorgeous long-necked bird. The bowl also has a wide, ruffled rim(see photos) I believe this bowl was made in the Middle East. And hails from circa 19th Century. I'm sure you experts will know for sure. There are three kiln stilt marks on the inside of the bowl well. It measures 5 1/4" across x 1 1/4" deep. There are a few very old shallow flakes on the underside of the rim. And a divided stress line on the base(see photos) However, the bowl is still intact(never broken) with no sense of fragility along the stress lines. Those lines are barely apparent on the front. Still a more than viable piece- a very impressive little bowl to add to an advanced collection! SORRY. Offered is an antique BLUE& WHITE PERSIAN ISLAMIC FOOTED POTTERY BOWL. I found this bowl in a Paris. France antique market, and believe it was made in Yadz, Iran circa late 19th Century, early 20th Century- perhaps older. It may be called Safavid pottery. It features a most beautiful hand painted cobalt blue glaze decoration on white, then everything was covered with a clear glaze before firing. The glaze on the back of the bowl has a very, very pale bluish green color(see photos) I am not an expert, so will leave final determinations to you. The design features arabesque shapes around berries and leaves. With a central circular shape enclosing a beautiful blue bird bluebird, eating a big ripe berry. Late Byzantine/ Early Islamic Pottery Oil Lamp with Crosses CULTURE/ REGION OF ORIGIN: Palestine. Byzantine Empire to Early Islamic transitional period DATE: Circa 600- 800 AD DIMENSIONS: 8.3 cm(3.26 in. long DESCRIPTION: Intact. A pottery oil lamp made in a mold from rather rough pinkish-buff clay. It has a pointed oval shape. A conical handle at the back ridge, large central fill hole with surrounding ridge, another ridge extending from around the fill hole to the wick hole, with 3 raised dots just above the wick hole. Both shoulders are decorated with a central cross inside a circle with a stylized fish to either side. Remains of a reddish slip adhere to the recessed areas. The base is a raised circle inside of which is a maker's mark of 3 intersecting lines, resembling a simplified Chi-Rho sign. The prominence of early Christian symbolism ... moreon this example suggests it dates to the earliest part of the Byzantine- Islamic transition in Palestine. PROVENANCE: Ex Colorado Springs private collector who assembled a large group of oil lamps. Ceramics and related antiquities while serving with the United Nations in the Middle East in the mid-1960s, thence by descent to the most recent owner. Wonderful THOUNE(Switzerland) pottery pitcher in the Islamic style. It is old. Perhaps from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Stunning Majolica glazes. It stands 4.15 inches tall and 4 inches wide. A few rim frits which one can see in the photos, but nothing terrible considering it's age. I would still call it EXCELLENT condition because there are no breaks, cracks or repairs. Here is one of three heavy hand made and hand painted great Persian/ Middle Eastern/ Islamic tiles that I am listing in addition to a few other cool items from the same area of the world and estates from here in the Charleston area. The tile is probably late 19th century to early 20th century and is super neat.deer or antelope is the subject with fauna and grass! The colors are vibrant yet muted grays and greens and the hand painted tile is detailed. Seems to be a small herd simply resting under a tree and this will be a great tile to add to a collection of Middle East art pottery or just a great hand painted antique art pottery type of Middle Eastern tile. This tile measures approximately 6 1/2" square and is about 1/2" at thickest point. It is in very good antique condition! There is some crazing and no repairs. Hairlines, or ... morecracks. Offered is a Vintage Persian Islamic Middle East(Turkey? Majolica Faience Pottery Bowl/Dish. This piece measures 10.5 inches in diameter and 3 inches high from the foot or base. A lovely hand-painted geometric design in red and black against a lovely gold background. The back is covered in a terracotta glaze and there are two holes so that it can be hung on the wall. It is not signed. Condition is Excellent; there is minor crazing from age and some imperfections in glaze as a result of a hand-made manufacturing process. you are bidding on this very rare and early palestine pottery tile.This tile was made in around 1930s' to commemorate the opening of the saint andrews church the was built in jerusalem from 1927 to 1930, the tile was made by the famous armenian artist ohannessian who made a lot of tile works in the church complex( ohannessian was the"dome of the rock tiles" workshop founder and manager) this wonderful tile is made from glazed pottery and on it there is the scottish cross symbol and on it a painting of the actual church of saint andrews with an inscription"saint andrews jerusalem" this tiles are very very rare and i have never seen another one like this, the tile was broken and glowed as you can see in the photos and there is a small chip in its edge but this does not effect the beauty of this important and rare tile. ... morethe size of the tile is: 15x15 cm or 6x6 inch. David Ohannessian The Armenian potter David Ohannessian. Whose tiles decorate the Rockefeller Museum, was born in a small village in eastern Anatolia(Turkey) in 1884. At the age of fourteen he joined a pottery workshop in Kutahya and within a short time became its owner. Ohannessian produced tiles and vessels and renovated buildings, some of them historical sites, in Turkey, Egypt, and Saudia Arabia. During the First World War. Ohannessian and his family were exiled to Syria. It was in Aleppo that he met the British diplomat Sir Mark Sykes, who was instrumental in bringing him to Palestine in 1918 to renovate the tiles of the Dome of the Rock. The ceramic workshop he established on the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem was called"Dome of the Rock Tiles. It produced various types of ceramics and provided tiles for churches, cemeteries, and public buildings, among them Government House and, of course, the Rockefeller Museum. Ohannessian continued to work in Jerusalem until 1948, after which he relocated to Beirut, where he died four years later. Description This antique/ vintage circa 1900-30's Safi Moroccan majolica faience pottery Islamic large bowl. Is hand thrown in red earthenware(terracotta) pottery of large chunky footed form with undulating rounded well and flattened wide rim. It is finely hand painted in shades of underglaze black with a lotus flower design and glazed in rich greenish blue turquoise glaze. There are yellow and green highlighted jewel spots and the back has a dark jade green glaze. It has the typical three kiln support marks to the front where the dishes where stacked in the kiln, these are filled and hand painted with paints after firing and the border of the rim is also painted in black. This gorgeous old piece is marked to the base'SAFI' one of the two main historical pottery towns in Morocco. It has two large holes in the foot rim on opposite ... moresides for hanging on the wall. There are three large chunky chips around the edge of the bowl, one of these has an old repair of filler and is touched up in green, the other two have dark stained touch up. Description This antique circa mid 19th century Moroccan pottery Islamic bowl. We believe to be an early Safi pottery piece. It is hand thrown in pale red earthenware(terracotta) pottery of footed form with rounded well and angled rim with up turned edge. It is nicely hand painted in underglaze cobalt blue and turquoise with geometric lotus flower inspired patterns and has a semi-matt buff coloured glaze with yellow enamel detail. Painted decoration Dimensions: H. 24 cm; W. 21 cm; diameter of opening 9 cm The distinctive feature of this pitcher is its brown. Freehand brushwork decoration on a cream ground. The artist has divided the outside into three levels separated from each other by a broad line. On the upper level, situated on the neck, he has drawn regular series of triangles and diamond-shapes which meet at their points. The second level, on the shoulder, is ornamented with a repeated motif of three parallel lines. The third and last level, the belly, is painted with irregular freehand triangles, bigger than those on the neck and pointing downwards. The granular clay used contains impurities which have been hidden with cream-coloured slip. Firing was done at ... moremedium temperature and in two stages: one for the clay and another for the paint. This pitcher was doubtless used in everyday life.
