Ancient Indus Valley Pottery Zebu Bull Figure - 3500 BC
An ancient Neolithic Indus Valley pottery zebu bull figure. Dating to around 3500 BC. The majority of Indus Valley bull figures on the market are modern reproductions, yet this wonderful piece is a rare and genuine example. A figure of a zebu bull standing on four short. Conical legs with pronounced hump. With painted facial features and stripes on the back. The bull was a symbol of male strength and virility in Indus Valley society. And was the counterpart to the female bird fertility goddess, together they are believed to have been presented to young couples in the hope of producing children. The Indus Valley Culture flourished throughout large areas of modern India and Pakistan during the 3rd Millennium BC. Along the flood plains of the Indus, a river flowing from its headwaters in the Himalayan Mountains. Along with Ancient Egypt and ... moreMesopotamia it was one of three early civilizations of the Old World, and of the three the most widespread. The roots of our own urban civilization lie in the remarkable developments that took place during this period. Although remote in time and place, this urban revolution, first represented by the formation of cities in areas such as the Indus Valley, must be looked upon as one of humanity's defining moments. This piece is a beautiful and striking remnant from this momentous period. Length: 3 ½ inches. Condition: Good. Horns fractured, as shown. Some original pigment surviving. Provenance: Ex. British private collection. Acquired 1980's. Authenticity All items are unconditionally guaranteed to be Authentic as described. Indus Valley, Harappa, Mohenjo Daro Seal (2600 - 1900 BC)
Very rare Indus Valley. Harappa, Mohenjo Daro Seal(2600- 1900 BC? Quite impressive(ca. 42mm x ca. 42mm) Very rare seal from the Indus Valley(Harappa, Mohenjo Daro) civilisation. Some criteria which would underline the authenticity of this seal: The holes are burred from both sides and don't line up 100% The axes of the burr holes are slightly tilted towards the lower part of the seal, some small stress cracks from firing are visible on the edges of the seal(these are not visible on the surface as the surface is worn) Some losses on one edge. Most seals from this civilisation sold on eBay are obvious modern forgeries. We have not enough experience with antiquities from this culture. So we have sent the same pictures shown here to a German seal colletor and a British antiquities dealer. Both couldn't of course confirm the authenticity ... moreof this seal, but both made following statements: the first impression is not bad' all in all quite convincing' Please make up your own mind about it! Ex. Swiss private collection formed during the 1980ies. Please note: Free Worldwide shipping with tracking number. We can not be held responsible for import duties and taxes. This is the buyer's responsability. We can not be held responsable for lost or damaged parcels. All items are carefully packed and come from a smoke-and petfree home.
