Antique Greek Helmet Hat Possible Theater Prop Roman Feel
Up for auction is very unusual antique hat which I believe could be a theater prop. The shell of the hat is a hard material that is covered with sewn cloth. The original colors seem to have been green and purple but has faded over the years. Look closely at the close up pictures of the material. The top has a 2 piece metal spike held to the hat with a wire that runs through the top of the hat. The back has a metal"band" that has a Greek flair to it as far as the shape and design. It has 2 round emblems that depict a roman soldier or citizen on each side of the band and a floral motif in the center. The hat is in solid shape overall but does have wear and minor condition issues due to age. The cloth exterior is discolored and faded and has unraveled areas. The metal is tarnished and has rub spots, the brim border has spots of wear, ... moreetc. The underside or inside of the hat shows wear as well. The inside headband is very fragile from age. Greek Spartan Gladiator Helmet Brass Metal Roman Wearable
For sale is a 100% brass Greek/Spartan/Roman/Gladiator helmet I made from an existing helmet. It has black paint painted(as some originals were on the face the brass and paint was aged to look like it has seen a but of action. Paint could be removed with a scotch brite pad and some mineral oil if you wanted to. Handsome helmet and it's brass which everyone gets a kick out of and wants to check it out. After cutting parts of the helmet to make it fit better I filed the edges down to what I thought was good. If you really wanted to you could get a metal file from the Home Depot and have at it, but I like it the way it is. At first it benefited the Russian masters but when every Russian who could pick up a brush and paint jumped on the internet band wagon the lower quality artist undersold the masters. The writing was one the wall just like when the cheap and lower quality Indian made armor ... moreflooded American markets. The true master armorers from both Europe and America were hit hard as most American buyers just wanted what-ever was cheaper priced. Many of these armorers either went out of business to do other things or they tripled their prices to stay in business to those who had lost of extra cash. The vast majority of my figure collection was handpicked in person at figure shows of only the best of the best mostly in the North East and many were also custom ordered from base metal kits purchased here and then shipped off to Russia to be custom painted by one of the true Russian masters.
