Antique 1299 Tribal MOROCCAN Silver Fibula & Huge Pendant Jewelry Dirham Coins
I have acquired a large estate collection of Vintage Moroccan jewelry which was purchased years ago by a US resident living abroad for a few decades. Please check back often for other pieces as there are over 35 pieces in this collection. Chain portion is 26 inches. From coins down is 9 1/2 inches. Weight:5.7 oz. Additional info: The fibula set is a strange mixture of old elements. Again remarkable as a survival of how things like this were actually worn and used by their owners. That it survived intact is amazing. This would have been worn in the same way as the other set with the circular disc, one fibula pinned at each shoulder and the pendants hanging in the middle. The fibulas are one of many small north/eastern types, cute and a near-match, connected to a big fibula chain of the type seen from Essairoua to Risani about 80 or more years ... moreago, with carefully engraved sheet silver covers for the connecting links. The coin pieces(dirhams of some kind) were also sometimes made into fibulas in various parts of the country(including Essaouira, the new name for old Mogador) so they probably came along with the chain. The central bulla-like circular dome I can't really place with any certainty, though it does resemble a kind of temple/headdress ornament worn in some places in pairs. That thing is noteworthy just for its age and true rarity(it's definitely Moroccan) I've seen similarly shaped dome pendants maybe 5 times in all these years and they're absent even from the books that exist. For the most part. The three pendants hanging from it are from further south, the two on the ends having what appears to be real niello(an indication of age) and are a type of supplementary dangle often seen on jewelry of the Ida ou Nadiff and Ida ou Zekri tribes from the Anti Atlas Mountain region. The central dangle seems younger than the two around it(those are antique, I feel sure, as shown by the softly worn edges alone) and seems like the style some call Citidine, but a later version, 20th century, and the newes

Anitque SILVER Moroccan Fibulas This is a wonderful pair of Antique SILVER FIBULAE(actually pen-annular brooches) from the Anti-Atlas region of Southern Morocco. One is about 1/4" shorter than the other. But the longest one measures just under 7 3/4” 19,7 cm) long by just under 3 7/8" 9,85 cm) wide at widest. The fibulae feature a good grade silver(currently unpolished, around 800) knobs, cones, stamped and incised decorations. The wear and patina are superb and they are in good condition commensurate with age and use. There is a crack/ fracture in the silver portion of one of the pins; it can be repaired but does not make the piece too much weaker and once repaired, would hardly show at all.
