This Roman Bronze ... moreFibula was used in ancient Rome as a clothing clasp to secure tunics or cloaks on a person's body. It would have been used by both men and women. Some were made of gold or silver(if you were rich) But most were cast in bronze-like this one. This is a fine large example of a Fibula. But like many examples-it is missing the fastening pin. Specifically, it is called a"bow-style" Fibula and measures 3.12" long. It was found on the site of an ancient Roman settlement called Dacia. Which is in present day Romania. Darcia became a Roman province in the early 1st Century AD and had many forts to protect the miners who found and processed gold ore. The Romans were mostly ousted in 256 AD, so this Fibula had to date before then. It was made by an ancient blacksmith during the Golden Age of the Roman Empire about 1.800 years ago. An essential early bronze tool for every man or woman or child to have. Very Stylish at Toga Parties! Look carefully at the attached photo and you can see the unique pattern of this stylish Fibula. Because of its large size, I would suggest this one was used by a man. This Fibula was buried for almost 1.800 years, but it is in excellent condition. Moroccan Silver& Enamel Fibulae This is a superb pair of Berber Moroccan solid silver fibula and belt with pendant. It is a rare and complete set. The wonderful etched detailed designs are highlighted with enamel bosses and colored glass pastes. In addition to the enameling and paste. The pendant is further adorned with moroccan silver coins from the late 1800s. The wire work on the belt is similarly decorated. This piece dates to the late 19th to early 20th century. This set is in excellent condition with no breaks. Repairs or missing pieces. I have not polished the silver to retain the patina consistent with its age, but could be polished back to its original glory if so desired. This is the largest fibulae set that I've ever seen.
