However, the fact that it is made of bronze and cut glass indicates that it was fashioned during the fall of the Byzantine Empire, under Muslim dominance, when precious metals and stones were scarce. This therefore dates the fibula to between the 10th and 12th centuries. Research will reveal that it is very difficult to find examples similar to this fibular.
