WEIGHT: Approximately 0.93 Carats(the pair) NOTES: Upon request we can set your gemstones as a ring. Pendant, or as earrings(click for more information) DETAIL: The name“peridot” is derived from the Arabic"faridat" meaning"gem" Peridot was mined as early as 3000 B.C. on an island in the Red Sea off the coast of Aswan. Egypt known to the Greeks and Persians as“Zebirget” or“Zabargad” later renamed“St. John’s Island by Medieval Crusaders) This barren little mound of land was one of the best-guarded areas of the ancient world. The Egyptians valued peridot so highly that guards stationed on the island were given orders to kill anyone approaching the shore without permission. Many pieces of ancient Egyptian jewelry(some as much as 4,000 years old) featuring peridot have been uncovered by archaeologists. To the ancient Egyptians, the glow of Peridot symbolized"Ra" their sun god. According to some accounts, peridot gemstones were a traditional“gift” given by the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt to their High Priests, ensuring according to one source, that the priests might"keep their minds free from envious thoughts and jealousies" concerning the pharaoh's powers and wealth. Here are two absolutely gorgeous. Pastel green faceted peridot ovals from Burma. High quality, transparent, at a minimum eye clean, these lustrous semi-precious gemstones possess a beautiful, light, citrus character. DETAIL: In the ancient world malachite was a famous and very popular semi-precious stone. The Egyptians seem to have been the first to mine and use malachite as early as 4000 B.C. In addition to use in the manufacture of amulets and jewelry. Malachite was ground for use as eye shadow and as pigment for tomb paintings. The application of eye shadow was believed to provide psychic protection as well. The Egyptian word for eye-palette is derived from their word for"protect. An unadorned and therefore unprotected eye was believed vulnerable to the“Evil Eye” Outlining the eyes thus gained significance beyond beautification. The act itself created a personal protective amulet drawn directly on the skin; an amulet that once applied could not be broken, lost, or stolen. Found in tombs of the pre-dynastic period, eye makeup equipment(palettes, grinders and applicators) seems to have also been essential for the afterlife. Malachite gets its name from the Greek word"Mala'khe" which refers to its green color. Following in the Egyptians' footsteps, Greeks also made jewelry and talismans from malachite to ward off evil spel

Nice example of this rare 150-year-old Egyptian title. Description: Egyptology was very popular during the Victorian era. In large part due to several pioneering expeditions to Egypt led by historians and archaeologists of the day. The foremost of these was Sir John Gardner Wilkinson, who in his lifetime visited virtually every known ancient Egyptian ... moresite, skillfully recording inscriptions, copying paintings and compiling copious notes. In fact, there was hardly an ancient Egyptian site known at that time that Wilkinson did not visit and record in his notebooks. Wilkinson’s exploits. And those of the Egyptologists who followed in his footsteps, fired the imaginations of readers in England and America. They were reported in newspapers and periodicals, and in lavishly illustrated books. As more expeditions were mounted, and as more books were published, everything Egyptian soon became fascinating to the 19th-century audience. DALETH was one of the earlier works to capitalize on the“Egyptian fever” sweeping the public. Published in 1864. It features lavish illustrations including colored and tinted lithographs, accompanied by a descriptive and thoughtful narrative full of richness and romance which discusses the Egyptian antiquities and the history behind them. The Preface states: The researches of scholars and critics. Which have been so generously and successfully lavished for two centuries upon the ruins of Egypt, only increase our desire to be acquainted with the people who built and adorned these monuments. ANCIENT EGYPTIAN ANTIQUITIES "FROG" OIL LAMP ATTRIBUTED TO 3rd-4th CENTURY AD
This ovoid-shaped. Ancient, pottery"frog" oil lamp is believed to have been fabricated in Egypt circa the third to fourth Centuries AD(the Roman Era) The oval body has two holes. The hole for the wick is at the center of the lamp; the other hole. Into which the oil was poured, is at the far edge of the reservoir. To the Egyptians, the frog symbolized rebirth, life and fertility; thus, the remnants of an outline of a crouching frog often remain on the top surface of these lamps(as seen on this particular example) The concentric circles inscribed on this lamp’s bottom are believed to be the mark of the artist who made this lamp. Dimensions: Length = 7.5 cm(3 inches) Width = 6.5 cm(2.6 inches) Height = 3.5 cm(1.4 inches) Provenance: The Estate of a Maryland collector who inherited from his family of world travelers and collectors of ... moreantiquities.
