A beautiful and totally wearable gold pendant mounted with a steatite amulet or seal in the form of a hare. The base is carved with an indistinct design. We do not think that this amulet is ancient, but it is clearly antique as the gold mount is around 100 years old and beautifully made. There's a little blue glass bezel/bead also suspended from the attachment loop of the mount. 2.3 x 3.1 cms, the mount is not hallmarked. An ancient Egyptian turquoise faience statue of the Goddess Isis suckling the infant Horus. Dating to Egypt's Late Period, approximately 664 B.C. A particularly fine and attractive example. A tender and emotive artefact. This faience sculpture merges the traditions of pharaonic Egypt with the artistic style of the Ptolemaic period. Isis is shown seated, nursing the infant Horus upon her lap. Atop the tripartite wig on the goddess's head is the throne hieroglyph that represents her name. Following ancient conventions for indicating childhood, Horus is naked and wears a single lock of hair on the right side of his head. For the ancient Egyptians the image of the goddess Isis suckling her son Horus was a powerful symbol of rebirth that was carried into the Ptolemaic period and later transferred to Rome. Up for auction is a wonderful Egyptian Scarab. Rare and Unusual- I have never seen one like this before. Fired Egyptian clay with a fine glaze. Scarab is a soft sea-foam green frosted with coppery-tan shimmer. Exact age unknown. My Great Aunt Ondine spent much time in Egypt where she picked up fine antique scarabs. Turquoise, beads, and jewelry. I have recently come into the estate of my Great Aunt Ondine. Originally from France. She was a great world traveler. Necklace is in found condition with antique patina on all surfaces left intact. There are 2 broken and 1 cracked mummy beads and no clasp. Ancient Egyptian Faience Amulet of SEKHMET in excavated uncleaned condition. Height 3.4cm x 2cm wide and 1.8cm deep, circa 1100-500 B.C. Intact and un-restored. A hole goes through one side to the other just below the ears. This is wearable with care and professional clean if preferred. Faience was made from a compound including a crushed quartz like material which was usually pushed into a mould, left to set, then fired which turned the material into a glass-like substance, coloured by adding a dye from a crushed blue flower found in Egypt. Head, thorax and legs. The base is inscribed with a cartouche of Queen Nefertiti. Traces of the original blue glaze still remain, the colour is particularly vivid on the underside. An enigmatic piece from a chaotic period. The reign of the heretic Pharaoh Akhenaten. He is known primarily for attempting to introduce both a religious revolution and a more intimate form of expression into Egyptian art. An example of this unique style includes the world renowned bust of his royal wife, Nefertiti, one of the most famous women of the ancient world and an icon of feminine beauty.
