We’re happy to send you a summary of the differing conditions and prices we may have for the same title. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover: 192 pages. Publisher: Time-Life Books Inc. 1975) The“Great Ages of Man” series was released in the mid-1960’s. Each volume undertakes to describe the major events that happened in one specific time period(or“age” in the development of mankind’s civilization(s) The volumes are richly illustrated. And designed as an introduction to the time frame covered. Especially compelling are the artists interpretations or recreations of what various ancient civilizations would have looked like– their architecture, homes, monuments, cities, daily life, jewelry, food, family life, dwellings, occupations, etc. As just one instance, the ruins of Babylon and Ur, Athens and Rome hint at the incredible richness of those fabled cities. The artist’s recreations in this series are simply mind-numbing. This is as close as you can be to actually having been there. Equally noteworthy are the photographic collections of artifacts and relics attributed to the specific age, really exceptional. The entire series is truly a magnificent introduction to the history of the era. If you could have just one book(or series of books)

Three Ancient Egyptian Coptic Christian Textiles - 200 AD
Three intricate and extremely rare ancient Egyptian Coptic Christian textiles. Dating to circa 200-400 A.D. In a simply remarkable state of preservation. These tapestry woven roundels would have once been worn by a Coptic Christian as part of a tunic or shawl, the classic garments of the late antique world. The upper and lower roundels depict a four pointed star in the centre. Encircled by a scene of flowers, creeping vines and geometric patterns in vibrant hues of red, green and gold. Only the oldest of fabrics, dating from the second through to the fifth centuries, show these most natural of forms. The artisan who produced this piece would have been highly influenced by the vegetal displays often seen in Byzantine floor mosaics of the period. The central roundel is of a particularly rare type and reflects a more intricate motif. An eight ... morepointed star lies at its heart, surrounded by animal figures, plants and an upturned human palm. This seemingly naturalistic scene is imbued with early Christian symbology. Christian art was necessarily and deliberately furtive and ambiguous during this period, using imagery that was seemingly innocuous but had a special meaning for believers. The intricately woven fish has particular significance; ancient Christians, during their persecution by the Roman Empire in the first few centuries after Christ, used the fish symbol to mark meeting places, tombs and to distinguish friends from foes. This piece would appear to reflect that ancient tradition. The upturned palm may be a depiction of orans, an ancient form of prayer often seen in early Christian art whereby the hands were outstretched sideways, palms up. The richness of design and the magnificence of the colours of Coptic textiles have long been recognized. Indeed the designs and motifs of Coptic and Byzantine textiles went on to influence the later visual repertoire of the early Islamic period. Yet this piece has an equally special significance, surviving to our own time as a beautiful remnant of early Christian society, s

1 Leaf Ornate TITLE PAGE Beautiful Christian Coptic Bible Manuscript from Egypt
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 First of all. I must mention that 35 years ago when we lived in England, my husband bought this fragmentary Coptic handwritten manuscript, and because it was incomplete, I am selling them one leaf at a time. This particular leaf is the ornate title page from that beautiful manuscript. This is a rare illuminated Coptic Christian Bible manuscript leaf. I do not know exactly when this manuscript leaf was written by the scribe. But my best estimate would be either the late 17th century or early 18th century. On thick paper. With some discoloration, especially around the edges of the page, due to age and use. Total size of the page is about 4 1/2 in. x 6 1/2 in. The Coptic text in its distinctive and beautiful large uncial letters starts ... moreon the left of each line. Since it is read from left to right. There are n umerous instances of red rubrication in letters and words. As well as diacritical and punctuation marks. This particular leaf has two(2) large initial letters(see the 5th scanned image) This title page leaf has a very ornate heading with two arches at the bottom. And in these arches are the names of God-on the left"God" in Coptic and on the right"God" in Arabic(see the bottom of the 1st scanned image) The manuscript as a whole contains many instances of the Nomina Sacra or Sacred Names(which are used for such terms as God. Lord, Jesus, Christ, Savior, Father, Son, Holy, Spirit, Cross, and Heaven) and you can tell it is a Nomina Sacra because it has a horizontal line above. And sometimes with red dot(s) above the line. This particular leaf has the following Nomina Sacra: three(3) instances of"Kurios" meaning"The Lord" for one of them. See the 1st scanned image, 2nd line from the bottom, 2nd word from the left) also, the Nomina Sacra for"The Spirit" see the 6th scanned image. Top line, 2nd word from the right) This leaf also contains the following words: Hea
Ancient Ethiopian Coptic Bible Leaf
Ancient Ethiopian Coptic Hand Written Bible Leaf. On goatskin vellum with red illuminations on both sides. Written in Ge'ez. These leaves were originally hand stitched between covers of clay tablets. Later hand carved covers of wood were used instead of clay. Originating in Egypt, the Christianization of Abyssinia(Ethiopia) took place in the early Fourth century. The earliest Ge'ez documents date from that period. The language ceased to be used as a spoken language before the year 1000, but it continues to this day to be used as the official written language of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. In written form these handwritten Bible leaves were produced from the fourth century through the mid-1800's so they can be very difficult to date. This leaf is remarkably similar in appearance, style and coloring to museum collections from ... morethe early 1700's, and I am estimating its age at approximately 300 years, though it could be much older. The leaf has been identified as a portion of the Book of Psalms. We are full time autograph and document dealers registered with the UACC(036) And members of the Manuscript Society. Payments must be by Pay Pal. We will combine shipping on multiple purchases. 79C) Powered by inkFrog Analytics.

ETHIOPIAN Coptic BIBLE Manuscript ANTIQUE Handwritten GE'EZ Vellum OCCULT Psalms
You are bidding on a true piece of Biblical history! Presenting a handwritten Coptic Ethiopian Bible/Psalm Book w/ great aging throughout! Written in the Ethiopic(Ge'ez) script. A Semitic language that is no longer spoken, but is still used for liturgical and other religious purposes by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The subject of these"Bibles" are generally always Christian, but actual content varies. Dating Ethiopian manuscripts is very difficult as scribes copied old monastic manuscripts using the same materials as had been used for centuries, and have been as old as the 14th century; this carries many examples of an older age within, with original vellum animal skin pages, faded, browned, stained and aged, as shown, bound in hand sewn and attached wooden boards, wrapped in an attractive well worn and colorful fabric wrap. ... moreWe could loosely guess this one originated sometime c1700- late 1800s, with wear to the vellum as an indicator; the wraps probably newer, c1850-1900s. A majority of the text are incantations to protect the owner from supernatural forces. Combined with what looks to be the Psalms of David. Written in red/black, as shown, the red indicating sacred words spoken by the savior. The Bible also includes a few crudely drawn native icons at the rear, with a few examples as shown in the pics. This example is bound in square wooden boards. Fabric wrapped; the covers tied through with twine with a leather cover on the spine, with some loss to the fabric. There is some definitive age to the interior of this example, and some staining, notable water damage and warping, and more, which is normal for these rare gems; this one undoubtedly hundreds of years old. There are 88 leaves/176 pages in this, as shown. There is also some interesting marginalia, as shown ion the pics, undoubtedly newer in origin, but again, in Ge'ez. Obtained in an online auction direct from Ethiopia. Bible measures 6.25" x 4.5" x 2" thick. A True treasure. These have sold for $1,000s of dollars, and t
