Ancient Byzantine Very Large Bronze Ring with Portrait of Saint 700-900 AD
Ancient Byzantine Very Large Bronze Ring with Portrait of Saint 700-900 AD Byzantine jewelry was a full continuation of the Roman traditions which were kept alive behind the high walls of the new capital. Constantinople. Byzantine Onyx pure gold ring
An ancient Byzantine gold ring with an onyx"eye" Was bought at a shop on the Isles of Scilly quite a while back in a shop that specialises in shipwreck artifacts. I was told this was worn to ward off the evil eye. It is a beautiful ring. The gold is very very yellow almost orangey yellow and weighs 6oz on my kitchen electric scales. I wondered if the other shank had broken off, but saw another very similar Byzantine ring with only one shank so I don't know if it is supposed to be like this, I see no evidence of a"break" but I am no expert, I bought this simply because I love medieval history and this ring had a huge appeal, however as its just sitting in a box I think it would be better going to a collector who would know more about this wonderful ring. I have worn it a couple of times(it is perfectly wearable) but ... moreI do now feel this should be preserved as being pure gold it will be soft. The back of the ring is already thinner than the rest from constant wear. I am happy to provide more photos and details if requested I am happy to accept return if you feel this does not match the description above, but not if it is damaged as the ring currently is in very good condition Ring size O and half

This may tell us something about the widespread use and great popularity of jewelry. One could easily argue that there hadn't been a need for such a law if jewelry had been a purely aristocratic phenomenon. The Byzantine Empire was wealthy. It had gold mines within its borders and its geographical position was perfect for trade between the East and West. Successful traders. Military officers and high officials in the empire's administration would all have been in the position to afford luxurious jewelry. In an attempt to keep jewelry exclusive Justinian ruled that only he got to decide who wore the finest jewels by presenting his favorite'servants' with presents from the imperial worksh

Byzantine Bronze Cross Ring with Stone and Cross Hair Pin with Chain Set
Byzantine Bronze Cross Ring with Stone and Cross Hair Pin with Chain Set weight: 73 grams dia: 24 mm measures: 99 mm/ 5 mm The history of the Roman world is an epic story which stretches out over the course of more than two millennia- the story of an small group of villages which went on to dominate a major part of the western world and was to substantially define its culture. It is obviously impossible to summarize the entire history within a few lines. However. Most chronologies distinguish between the following phases: Origins and Roman Monarchy(753- 509 B.C. A somewhat less familiar period, at the end of which Roman territory was only one small area, Latium, which remained threatened on all sides by Italic and Etruscan peoples. The Roman Republic(509- 27 B.C. paved the way for the institutions. Administration and organizational structures ... morethat were to sustain the force of Rome. By 264 B.C. Rome controlled the entire Italian peninsula. Its ambition would then be to dominate the Mediterranean. Following the destruction of Carthage in 146, this was achieved for the western part. Macedonia, allied with Carthage, was then defeated, and Greece was“liberated” from the Macedonians in 194. Rome occupied what is today the Turkish coastline. Julius Caesar was at the origin of the change which, within a few years(49-29 B.C. would change the Roman institutions into an empire which covered almost the whole of the Mediterranean shores, plus Gaul and present day Spain. The Roman Empire(27 B.C. 476 A.D. increased the grasp of Rome on the Western world even more so. However signs of crisis increase from 250 A.D. onwards. With the rise of new peoples who threaten the borders of the Roman empire. Within the empire, Christianity progresses and the Emperor Constantine converts to it in 324. In 395, Theodosius shares the empire between his two sons. The Western Empire fell in 476, whereas the Byzantine Empire remained, with many trials and tribulations until 1453. CV Byzantine Bronze Ring **NEW** EARLY CHRISTIAN CHRIST CHI RHO LABARUM WAX SEAL
ROMAN BRONZE RING Byzantine Christ's CHI RHO or LABARUM Symbol Ring Size 8 1/2 Average Opening = 18.54mm Antiquities Corner is proud to present this fine historical artifact for your collecting pleasure. These artifacts were originally designed to be enjoyed by their owners and I have tried to return these treasures to a state which will both charm and enchant their new owners and show the skill and craftsmanship of old. True Holy Artifact! This ring was found at a Roman site in Ancient Moesia and dates from 400- 600 A.D. This ring was never made as a fancy article and may have been a much older ring that was re-used as it appears to have quite a bit of wear to it. It has a band that still seems solid. This ring has a flat. 13mm x 13mm round bezel. Right in the center is an early Christian Chi Rho symbol that has the remains of an outlining ... moredecoration. The design was put on the ring sideways to make it easier to be used a seal ring to seal letters or documents. The labarum of the Roman army was a vexillium banner that displayed the"Chi-Rho" symbol. Formed from the first two Greek letters of the word"Christ" Chi and Rho, which look like an"X: and a"P" to us today. The Chi Rho was first used by the Roman emperor Constantine I towards the end of his reign but was more widely used by his son Constantine II. Since the vexillium consisted of a flag suspended from the crossbar of a cross, it was ideally suited to symbolize crucifixion. The Chi-Rho symbol was also used by Greek scribes to mark, in the margin, a particularly valuable or relevant passage; the combined letters Chi and Rho standing for chre-ston, meaning"good. The etymology of the word labarum is unclear. it is perhaps to be derived from Latin verb"labare" to totter, to waver' in the sense of the"waving" of a flag in the breeze. Later usage has sometimes regarded the terms"labarum" and"Chi-Rho" as synonyms. Ancient sources however draw an unambiguous distinction between t

Constantinople. The Roman techniques and styles continued to form the foundation of Byzantine goldsmith's skills who weren't complete copycats; some innovations such as the use of Christian iconography and further specialization of new and old techniques occurred. Production in the old jewelry centers of Alexandria and Antioch gave way to an increased production in Constantinople. Pretty Bronze Ring w/ Gilding fr Baltic Region est.d Byzantine or Victorian sz 8
This is a beautifully decorated ladies bronze ring in size 8* which was found in the Baltic region of Europe during a metal detector expedition and purchased on eBay in 2013. My best estimate of its age falls within the Byzantine and Victorian periods. Its scroll work is made plainly visible by conveniently located remains of original gilding. Its setting also shows a remnant of black stone. Suggesting its forcible removal and strong likelihood of it being Black Onyx, given its popularity and frequent use during those centuries of the past. It could be worn without a gemstone. Particularly once its remaining shard of stone is removed. Or a replacement flat backed gemstone of any color or a small, round faced gold or smooth carved stone relic could potentially be mounted making it customized to perfectly suit and display one's individual ... moretaste for antiquities with pride. Please write with any questions or if you would like me to add shipping insurance. I will adjust your invoice accordingly. Please pay within 3 days of the close of the auction. Measurement of mounting area will be added shortly. So please save to your watching list and check back. Thanks and Happy Bidding!

Beautiful 18kt white gold Byzantine ring made in Turkey. It is handmade of highly polished strands of 18kt white gold. Woven into this beautiful interlocking design. The added gold rings along top and bottom of this Byzantine design adds structure and prevents the'rocking movement' noticed with other types of byzantine rings. The outer bands stabilize the delicate interlacing of the gold strands and prevents breaking. This design accentuates the Byzantine design while adding needed structure to the ring. I have a Byzantine without these simple gold outer rings and the Byzantine design is actually breaking, losing pieces. This ring is beautiful and securely made. It is solid 18kt white gold without plating or resin core. Ring is unisex in design. It does not taper in the back. Approx. measurement is 7mm. Size 7. not resizable. Weighs ... more4.12 grams of 18kt gold. The ring has been worn a few times and has been well cared for. It is in great pre-owned condition without much wear. Pure solid 18kt white gold. This ring is'softer' than 14kt gold. It easily molds to hug your finger and has the'buttery' shine of the richer 18kt gold jewelry. 10kt and 14kt gold has other alloys added to the metal which makes them a'harder' structure. 18kt gold has always been thought of as a finer, richer, more luxurious gold. In excellent, pre-owned condition! see pictures! Payment must be received within 3 days of end of auction. I want your experience to be pleasant.
