The cross is decorated with the circle engravings that provide protection from the evil eye. It measures 64mm x 48mm. And has a Carnelian stone in the center. This stone was replaced. As the original was lost in antiquity. The carnelian stone was chosen, because of the blood of Christ, and the stone's calming and peaceful omitting energies. Byzantine Bronze Cross 12th to 14th Century Restored; Low Reserve Must see!
For your consideration is an absolutely beautifully restored Byzantine bronze cross depicting what appears to be the risen Jesus Christ with arms stretched out. Engraved on the surface. This piece measures 60mm x 35mm x 2mm. And has a nice weight to it. The cross was restored to what it actually looked like when it was made. Photos of what the original patina looked like are listed. The remaining patina is actually lighter than the photos indicate; actually it is always a good idea to leave some intact. As it's proof of it's authenticity. Ordinarily. It's not a good idea to clean any artifact. But the only exceptions to this rule is. When it's such an extraordinary piece as this one is, that restoration would enhance the beauty of the piece, and the detail that would be impossible or near impossible to see had it not been ... morerestored. Also, if the piece is to be apart of a museum collection. This particular piece. Was purchased by me from a dealer in the U.K. and the decision to have it restored was because if the semi encrusted patina, and that parts of the cross was already showing small signs the patina wearing off(see left side of patina photo) due to the area of the U.K. that it was found.
