In raised lettering on the handle is the following: Washington President of the US Apr. 30. 1789. I found this axe in an old box of tools at an estate sale. Thought I had struck"gold. But, seems like there are a lot of these axes on Ebay. This one most definately has age and this one may be much older than the more modern reproductions. But I do not know if this piece indeed dates to 1789 or some date later. The print on the handle shows much wear leaving me to believe it is indeed much older. Certainly made in the character of very old axes in Chinese history. It's appearance and patina make it a really nice item. I purchased this from a Chinese dealer for a good deal more. He stated it was very old but could not date it. I am ready to let go of some things and there is another wine vessel also on my site. There appears to be some kind of human figure on the haft. Ancient Celtic Bronze Socket Axe, Circa 1500 BC
This is a fantastic excavated ancient Celtic socket axe. It is complete and has a fine. Hard, original patina. Notable besides the obvious beautiful color is that it is totally complete including the tie loop. It also has fine line cast decorative lines on the top and bottom. This is many steps better than some of the axes that have recently appeared on ebay that have questionable grungy patina. The 3000 plus years in the ground have been good to this piece. It is 3 3/4 inches long and the opening is about an inch in diameter.

This ceremonial axe feels heavy at nearly 3 pounds. actual 2.12.5lbs. It measures 10"L x 6"H x 2 1/4"W at the thickest point. My brother brought it back from Thailand. It is light brown in color with a green patina. There is a carved face on each side of the axe head and carvings all along the handle. I don't know much about this stuff and am not sure of age or provenance. Its probably a bronze resin reproduction but very cool nevertheless! This Asian Bronze Dagger-Axe features a thin blade sharpened all the way around. The long rectangular section(hilt) would have been inserted through a slit at the end of a long wooden shaft. The holes on the blade would have en used to bind the axe to the shaft. It is incised throughout with an intricate script pattern.
