Offered is a large, ancient pottery vessel in very good condition. There are a couple of small chips under the rim at the top and around the bottom. Otherwise is it in solid and sound condit ion. There are worn areas and age appro priate inconsistencie s in the clay. It measures 1 0 1/2" tall. Is 12" across at the widest point in the middle, and is 6" across at the base. It is unglazed. It was probably used as a military base during punitive raids. The civil settlement of Fectio was probably to the east of the fort. But excavation is not easy because there is a nineteenth-century military settlement on the site(Fort Vechten) However, the ancient fort itself is, together with Nijmegen, Vechten is one of the best excavated sites in the Netherlands; in 1894, it was the site of one of the ... morefirst excavations of a Roman ship. Ancient Chinese Tang Dynasty Sancai Pottery Military Official Figure 650 AD
A beautiful ancient Chinese terracotta Wushiyong or military official. Dating to the Tang Dynasty, approximately 618- 907 A.D. A beautiful Sancai(three colour) glazed piece. With ambers, greens and browns dripping and bleeding into one another to create a wonderful aesthetic. The depiction is one of a Wushiyong(military official) Shown standing defiantly, dressed in elaborate armour and holding his right fist clenched at his waist, his left resting on his hip. The figure is shown slightly smiling, his head turned to the right, hair in a top knot and facial details highlighted in black pigment. The armour shown here is of the mingguang(bright and shining) type. A new close-fitting armour developed in the Tang Dynasty, which incorporated breastplate, skirt like thigh protectors and shoulder plates. His head tilted up, right leg straight and left flexed at the knee. He holds his left arm skywards and right hand clenched at the chest, the sleeves hanging from the arms and the figure with hair in a top-knot. A very fine ancient Chinese Han Dynasty horse and rider figure. Dating to approximately 206 B.C. 220 A.D. This is a beautiful ancient sculpture displaying the unparalleled ability of the Ancient Chinese to depict the restrained power and beauty of the Horse. The dark grey horse is shown standing four-square. With well defined musculature and the features highlighted in black, white, orange and umber pigments. The rider's arms are held forward and perforated for the original fabric reins. Long perished. He wears an elaborate suit of armor, long under-robe and helmet, a quiver on his back perhaps held wooden arrows in antiquity, now long since perished. A wonderful balanced sculpture. Rare and Large Ancient Chinese Northern Wei pottery horse
An exceedingly rare Ancient Chinese Northern Wei glazed pottery Horse. Dating to approximately 386-534 A.D. Genuine Horse and Riders from the Northern Wei period seldom appear on the art market and are considerably rarer than their Han and Tang equivalents. They are characterized by their elegance of form. The horses with arched necks and slim heads, with an almost squatting posture at the back. This example is particularly large and decorated with unusual amber glaze. Which contrasts beautifully with the buff earthenware of the saddle, mane and base. The horse stands four-square, legs squatting at the back and front-right leg flexed as if advancing. The creature is fully bridled, with bells on the chest and saddle cloth, saddle and stirrups visible to the sides. The tail is thick and downturning. Figures such as this were placed in tombs ... morein Early China and would have provided comfort to the deceased as a representation of daily life. The horse may also have had a funerary significance. The bells visible on this piece possibly announcing a funerary procession. Height: 12 1/8 inches. Length: 14 inches. Small Ancient Chinese Pottery Vase, Yuan Dynasty, Possibly Early Ming
Here is an authentic antique Chinese pottery vase. I acquired this from a private estate over 20 years ago and I was told it was from China and possibly from the Yuan Dynasty. Please see the pictures for details and please ask questions. The vase is 5 inches in length and 2 1/2 inches in diameter at the mouth and approx. 4 1/2 inches in diameter toward the base and then it tapers back to 2 1/2 inches. It has a kind of blue/green glaze that doesn't cover the base and it's missing some glaze in a couple of spots. Not chipped or anything like that. Just missing the glaze like they missed a spot. It has crazing and what appears to be bubbles on the glaze. See pictures for details. This auction is for the small vase only. I will not ship this without insurance.
