This is a lot of 11 x Ancient Glass Beads. Which I bought in a mixed auction lot. They are approx. 15mm by 9 mm and are all in good condition, with no chips or other damage. However, they do have that pitted look, which only comes with considerable age and they may well be Roman/Egyption or early trade beads. The Egyptians also mummified animals. Indeed nearly every animal imaginable was mummified; bulls, dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, lizards and fish to name a few! Pets were also mummified for the obvious reasons. They were a part of the family. But the others? A bull? A crocodile? A snake or fish? Why them? For the Egyptians. The reason and logic was simple. The gods were often associated with animals. Distinguishing attributes of an animal helped priests and teachers convey ideas to the people about the nature of God. Strong as a bull, as mighty as a lion. So, for instance. We will often read, the god or pharaoh is'as a bull. Especially strong& especially virile. In this way, animals became associated with the'gods. In fact actually became an aspect of God by association. It is very interesting because it shows how the ancient egyptian craftmen worked. There is a part missing showing a dowel hole where an insert piece of wood separately had been mounted. Also beneath the gesso is visible some linen mummytissue which they used to fill out the wood to derive a smooth surface. On the back side some remains of white gesso where a couple of hieroglyps are still visible. The Neter sign and the Hetep sign are easy to determine.
