This is a highly detailed cast iron string holder. The bigger than life size detail of string decorates the entire piece. Around the middle. Cast into the design is the patent information: PAT'D FEB'Y 14, 1860" One of the most handsome cast iron string holders, this was surely used at the counter of a mid-19th Century Country Store. It is heavy enough that it didn't need to be screwed to the countertop. As you see, it hinges open to replace string and it would have held a very large ball. It is 5" tall and 6 1/2" across the base. It weighs very nearly 4 lbs. It makes for a fascinating display piece, especially when you put a roll of twine inside. They've become very popular in the Interior Design market as stand alone display pieces to hold knick knacks& such. When we come across an interesting piece we like to grab it. The reason THIS one is so wonderful is that A) it comes with its' original housing.I mention this because some people just"stack" drawers on top of each other in the pictures and you don't realize they don't have their original housing) THIS piece IS in its' original housing) B) it has its' ORIGINAL carved pulls. It's Not"perfect" see the many high resolution pictures below) It has wear to the veneer.pieces of veneer& overlays missing here and there.it could use a little tightening up.the bottom drawer"sticks" ... morebut it DOES go all the way in and out. When I got it it was very dried out. I gave it a once-over with our special wax solution. This made the wood patina"blend better" with the places of missing veneer. Antique Cast Iron AY McDonald Well Pump ~ Old Farm Water Hand Pump Homesteading
Up for bids at auction: Up for bids is this antique cast iron. A.Y. McDonald Well Pump. This pump is in great condition, it was found at an old farm estate in Central Iowa where the pump had been sitting unused on an old well for many years. It has been cleaned, given two coats of primer and two coats of enamel paint then detailed in white. The old rusted stuck bolts were replaced with"new old stock" square head nuts and bolts to keep it moving freely and looking great for many years to come. As you can see in the pictures, the pump is marked with raised, embossed lettering that reads, A.Y. McDONALD MFG. CO. ~ DUBUQUE, IA" on both sides of the stem as well as having embossed part numbers on the various pieces of the pump. The way it sits now, the pump displays beautifully and would make an eye-catching piece in any collection ... moreeither as décor or reclaimed hardware. The handle raises, lowers and works just as it should and the pump could easily be reconditioned to pump water. Overall height from the base of the pump to the top of the handle is 43 inches. Vintage Wooden Barrel Spigot
Vintage Wooden Barrel Spigot Up for auction is a vintage wooden barrel spigot. This piece is about 9 inches long overall. The end that goes into the barrel tapers from 3/4 of an inch up to about 1 1/2 inches near the handle. The hole for the liquid is approximately 3/8 of an inch in diameter. The spigot has a handle which allows you to turn the liquid flow on and off. I'm not sure what kind of wood the spigot is made from. But I believe it is a hardwood(maple, oak, walnut, etc) This spigot is in used condition. The spigot is in very good to excellent condition. This spigot is quit old. Here is a neat old cow bell with clapper. Bell is handmade. Or hand wrought. It may be brass under its patina of rust, I’m not sure. Bell is in very good used condition, rusty but still solid and useable. Clapper looks to be original, it makes a nice loud sound. Bell measures 7 inches in height by 2 inches wide. Primitive Antique Wood Wooden Dry Measure w/t Iron Metal Bands & Marked W.H. Rea
Sally's Cellar is honored to have up for sale(BIN or fair and generous bid) an absolutely outstanding authentic primitive wood measure. This piece is marked by the maker"W.H.Rea" Slight chance the mark could be the owner but most likely the maker and one could surmise that given it's age and well built construction that it would have been made in New Hampshire. Not marked nor confirmed but New Hampshire was known for it's well skilled artisan craftsman in this time period. This measure is fairly large. Measures in at 14"D x 7.5" H. It weighs a well built 4 lbs. and 5 ounces. The condition of this piece is excellent. There are a few scratches in the red paint on the bottom where you will find the rare maker's mark. The measure is well secured in iron or heavy metal bands at the top. Bottom and underneath ... morein an x-shaped format. The only loose spot that I can find is in a small place of the bottom band where a nail is missing. That is character and we firmly believe in not'fixing' it as it would ruin the ambience of a fine piece such as this one. Primitive wooden measures are very close cousins to firkin or sugar buckets in construction just one is a bucket and the other is a large round circular box meets crate. These measures were made in all sizes. In my personal collection. I have a set that has eight from small to large. The intended use was measurement like a bushel or a peck. I am not certain when pint or quart became standard. These measurers were used in general stores or in homes to measure dry ingredient items. Things like oats, sugar, flour, barley, wheat, etc. I could gush on for days about this beautiful piece. It is worth every penny of your investment for a real primitive piece. Antique Gram Scales
Up for auction is this antique set of gram scales patented in the USA on July 5. 1921. When closed they measure 6 1/8" long, when opened they measure 8 1/4" They weigh up to 70 grams on either side of the scale and have a pivoting piece that acts as a marker. They also have adjustment screws for calibrating. I am not exactly sure what they were designed for but they are well made. I am offering them at a low opening bid with no reserve. I recently acquired an antique SAD iron marked ENTERPRISE MFG CO PHILA. Along with a PATENT date which I can not quite read(starts with OCT) It is 6 ¾” long and approximately 4 ¾” high. It has a wooden handle and a wooden knob. It is quite heavy, weighing over 5 pounds. Condition: it has general wear. Including wear to the wooden handle and wooden knob and some rust to the iron. I was not able to remove the handle even though it wiggles back and forth, but I was unsure exactly how to remove the handle. Antique Handmade WOOD TOOL TRAY CADDY Decorative BOX Tote VINTAGE
You are bidding on a primitive hand made antique wood tool tray/box made of pine with a round 1" diameter handle that appears to be oak. The handle rolls freely but is held in the tray by old square nails that have been driven through the handle on the inside of the tray on each end as can be seen in some of the photos. The tops of both ends of the box have small diameter holes that were probably drilled to hold screwdrivers or other small tools. The tray has a nice patina with paint splotches and other stains that demonstrate the extensive use of the box over a long period of time. This would be a great piece for displaying or storing old tools or kitchen utensils or perhaps as a decoration in a country style decorated home or cabin. The tray measures approximately 23" long by 11-3/4" wide by 10" high.

Antique 60Year Old Galvanized Steel Wash Tub ex. Historic winery rustic planter
I am saving the best for the last. Here is a great old Galvanized Steel Wash Tub which is approximately from 1950. I purchased this at an estate sale years ago from an old defunct winery located in the city of Fontana. California. I purchased all they had and have had this treasure trove on display in my patio until recently when my wife decided to redecorate. This is a good size tub and stands 10 1/2 inches tall and is approximately 20 inches across at the top opening and is 17 inches across at the base. It's fairly heavy and weighs over 6 pounds. If one looks close at the photos. One can see that this basin will leak and is very corroded. Has been banged around and used for decades and this use only lends to its authentic antique rustic appearance.

This is such an unusual piece of antique stoneware! Chocolate brown glazed. Tall stoneware blacking crock bottle isn't terribly rare; the original cork and porcelain stopper, however, are really rare! The jar style. With the stopper, once held"blacking" or polish, and was used for boots, harnesses, and other leather goods. There are even records of blacking being used on hearths. Bottle is in great shape, with a long, old chip on the bottom edge. Porcelain knob is crazed and has minor staining. Cork is dark, except where it's been in contact with and protected by the inside of the bottle. A great primitive antique! Unsure of maker. Hails from the mid to late 1800s. This old redware strap-handled crock milk jug is incredible! It has obviously been used. But is in amazing condition for its age. Has a hand applied handle, and a green spatter glaze, with lighter greenish daubs of glaze around the shoulder. Glazed inside and out. Has quite a few manufacturing flaws that don't affect the beauty of this piece. No maker's marks that I can see. Probably this piece is Pennsylvania Dutch, mid to late 1800s. Interestingly, this type of redware has been made since the late 1600s, and is made from the same material as bricks and roof tiles. See photos. Unsure of exact age or maker. No damage to this piece. At some point someone has added a typed tag to the back which reads. 16 1/2 inch deep dish made by Robert Nicholson, London, touch No 462 of the London Touch Place in 1686-7. The doorknob cover is in really nice condition. But it does need cleaning. I don't edit photos. With no reserve, is this vintage brass scoop with a turned wooden handle for ease in dipping into buckets or barrels of goods that were offered in a country store. Overall length is 11 1/2" and the brass scoop has a closure of three brass nails or brads and three more to secure the brass scoop to the handle. The turned handle has two"splits" in the wood and the brass has age related conditions to the surface. But the wonderful patina remains! Scoop has a nicely rounded edge for dipping and then scooping. Here is a nice aged tin ceiling light.
