Primitive Axe - Found Buried in Baltimore Back Yard - Wood Handle - 33" Long
This axe has a fascinating story. It was buried in my back yard. And I found it when I was making a garden just a few years ago. My house was built in 1948 and I have no idea how long the axe was there. It measures about 33" long. The blade is 7" wide by 5" high at the highest part. The wooden handle is damaged at the top and the blade does come off. This axe looks like it was most likely handmade. There are no markings or names on it. There is pitting in the blade and it is dirty and rusty. SO the buyer is buying"as is. I have tried to take pictures of all angles of the axe. Please email me with any questions. For Sale: An antique Handmade Painted basket. The underside is signed"Alquist. There is some wear on the paint. But it is still very displayable. The handles are wrapped on either corner and the wrap is missing on one corner and slides up and down on the other. On the handle where the wrap is missing, there is a piece of the handle hanging slightly lower than the rest of it. I posted a photo. There is a glue spot on the top so something else may have been attached to the handle at one time. There are a few broken pieces of straw here and there. But nothing that affects the solid condition of the basket and blends very well. The inside weave is in very good condition. there may be a few splits in the straw, but overall condition is very good. Rusty Barbed Wire Roll Wreath Make Your Own RUSTIC COUNTRY ART!

This auction is for a very unusual folk art sculpture. It is a polychrome chalkware egg on pedestal measuring seven inches tall. It retains its original paint with trailing vines around the base. Condition is very good with paint chipping on the very top which can be seen in the last picture. It came out of an old Pennsylvania estate last week. The glass dome has no damage and the figure inside also appears to be in very nice condition. I picked this harness up at an estate sale in Northwest Wyoming. It has a true one-of-a-kind with experienced patina and wear marks. There are a multitude of straps. Buckles, hinges, rings and loops on this harness. As with any authentically worn ranching apparatus, there were times when a piece may have broken or fallen off with wear and the most suitable piece of material was used for repair. As that is the case, there is a place on here where a pin must have fallen out and the rancher fashioned a twisted metal loop to replace said part– neat to imagine them going into the barn or tack shed and looking around for a suitable replacement part and that piece ending up on this piece! please see the twisted wire pin that was fashioned) The metal part of the harness measures approximately 29” tall. This lot is 2 Ox/Horse single tree yokes. No makers name I can find. One is 18 1/2 inches long with 2 side hooks and a top ring. One is 20 1/2 inches long with a top hook and 2 side rings. It has a chain that is 26 inches long. The stationary side of the chain is held on by a wire and needs to be fixed. The other end of the chain is as designed. Don't know much more about these. Up for your consideration is this really great primitive farm bucket. Due to the shape of the hand forged handle. It could have been used for drawing water from a well. Wooden staves, two"piggen Ear" extended staves on each side for the handle. Three metal hoops or bands holding the staves together. The size of this bucket is 13 1/2" in diameter, 16" to the top of the extended staves, 14 1/2" to the rim of the bucket. The weight of the bucket is 11 1/2 pounds. Ottomans used to carry water and wine in this vessel when they traveled with a horse or а mule wagon. There is a special place on the wagon to fit the vessel. It has been recently(during last 50 years) painted in green and orange. But this is not the original paint. They did not used paint when they were making vessels like this. Antique Nutting Dolly (Early 1900s, steampunk, plant stand)
Old railroad luggage/trunk dolly. Wheels indicate it was made by Nutting in Fairbault. MN. Wood is in rougher shape but it has lots of character. All metal slats and hardware is present. Wheels spin freely. The horizontal wood slats are dovetailed into rails and it looks older than the few other Nutting hand dollys out there. The Great American Civil War. What a time for our nation! Just to imagine the soldiers without shoes. enjoying a" gourmet" meal of hardtack biscuits.the doctors and nurses who tended to all the afflicted on the battlefield as well as in the hospital. Children's pictures in the newspaper to help identify a possible father who had gone off to fight. It all staggers the imagination. Up for your consideration this fine Pennsylvania evening is a mystery drum.just not sure of its origin. I do not believe this to have been on the battleground simply because the calfskin on the head of the drum is not so worn. Quite possibly it could have been in antebellum parades to honor Civil War veterans. Or used as a display some place. I just don't know! Standing 23 inches high, it has an 18 inch breadth, and the edges are made of wood that ... morehas been wearied through time. The veneer of the wood is intact for the most part with a bit of slight buckling in the one area. The artistry on the drum says, Fifth US Infantry" There was a 5th U.S. Infantry that came out of NewYork that was a volunteer regiment. This drum was discovered in an old house in Pennsylvania, so that makes me doubt that it was used for re-enactment. The drum has a wood core and leather ears and very primitive twine encasing it. I believe the part painted on to be leather. I wish I knew more about this drum. Added to the collection are my primitive stars and pieces as well as a Gettysburg Address that I hand-wrote. This would make a fabulous display not only in a home but any place to honor Civil War memorabilia. Primitive Blacksmith Forged Kettle Pot Handle ~Wrought Iron Hearth Caldron Swing
Here we have a really great primitive wrought iron kettle pot or caldron handle with a wonderful time aged patina. This handle was hand forged and blacksmith made and it is of New England origin. It has a flat top. Rounded underside, two gooseneck hooks and a bump in the center for hanging. This early handle has a super time aged patina and it is in untouched as-found condition from Connecticut. There is some light surface rust and pitting that is uniform around the whole handle. It measures 9 1/2" wide. The hooks are 8 1/2" on center and it is 4 3/4" tail at the center. The lemon in the photos is not included in this auction and is for display purposes only. I am selling without reserve a rare FAMILY RECORD needlework sampler from 1809. Found in Redding. CT over 40 years ago, it lists the birth dates of eleven members of the Small and Patch families. The earliest stitched date is 1769 to the latest date 1809. The 4 lines at the bottom read: When memory oer this scene shall wake- And retrospective pleasures take- How shall I wish in vain- To enjoy youths careless hours again. This verse. From 1806, is listed in: American Samplers by Ethel Stanwood Botton and Eva Johnston Coe, The Pine Press, Princeton, 1973. The condition is very good, but there is thread loss in the center probably from being folded at one time. The stitching is pale and dark green on what appears to be natural cotton or linen. Stayed at a fabulous B&B in South Dakota- made even more heaven by the fact that they also had an antique store on the property. I shopped in several other locations in both states and brought home some great primitives. Advertising, pottery, and all in all interesting finds. Before I left, I went to a new farm auction, and an estate auction- so I have a BUNCH of new items this week- I’ll be posting every day, so be sure to check back! I'll tell you- the auctioneer called this a water bucket- but I'm not so sure that it wasn't intended as a tool bag when it was made. This a heavy. Workhorse of a piece- made of thick canvase that is reinforced with a leather bottom, and leather ... morereinforcement around the hole that holds the thick rope handle. There's a maker's mark stamped in black on the side, and you can read the word, LinemenS, word, Quality, No. 3? sorry, but I can't make it all out. The bag has a fabulous rustic primitive look to it, and it would be perfect to use as a harvest collection bag, for your tools, or just fill it with sticks or flowers for a primitive display. It measures 15" tall not including the handle and is 12" diameter. It weighs 3 lbs. There's a pocket on the inside wall for holding smalls- another reason why I think it's not a water bucket. It's in excellent solid and sturdy structural condition overall- this one is sound. It shows lots of rustic wear from use, though. I'm showing a close up of a 1/4" hole in the canvas toward the bottom in photo 6. It does go all the way through. There's other scrapes and scratches but not other holes that I can find. There's loooots of scratching, scraping and wear to the leather, but it's intact and the bottom is strong.
