Late 18th. Early 19th C Colonial Period Iron Open Pan Lamp Cruise Betty Antique Description: LARGE Antique Early Iron Pan"Betty" Lamp! Lovely example of a late 18th. Early 19th century blacksmith made double pan lamp, one of the largest we've ever seen. Please take a moment to click on the individual images of the piece and you'll see you can produce enlarged details of the great construction and condition. The lamp itself standing measures approximately 15" tall. A truly impressive size, and one that must have put out quite a bit of illumination. As the large size of this piece suggests it was probably used in a public house. Or in a tradesmans quarters. This style is sometimes refered to as a'cruise' lamp. And I believe is referenced as such in the Rushlight Club's reference on early lighting. The design ... morecan also be seen referenced in numerous volumes on early country furnishings as the style, design and function made is a common choice for early illumination needs. The two-pan example allowed this piece to save fuel. The top pan would have been filled with grease or oil with the wick laid through the curved channel. While burning. Spilt over fuel would be collected in the bottom pan and reused(also allowed the piece to be cleaner burning as well) As you can see the top pan bears a great"Ram's Horn" design pattern. Again. They were once quite functional(still could be as a matter of fact) This is an interesting pair in that they are each marked in two places. One reads" Carson Pirie& Scott Co. Chicago" The Carson Pirie& Scott company began in 1890 with two downtown Chicago Stores and kept expanding right into the twentieth century. These old trees are also marked" MILLER Trade Mark O.A.M. Co. Made In U.S.A. I'm guessing that the Miller Company MADE these.while the Carson Pirie& Scott company actually USED them in their stores OR sold them. We used to sell these small primitive Asian milking stools. But we lost our source for them several years ago. We're clearing out our warehouse right now and this is one that we bought to sell but it got stuck out there and I just now came back across it. It's very old and weathered. It has nice weight for its' small size. It is a child sized milking stool. You could leave it with the weathered and worn finish OR paint or stain it. The legs are built to come up and THROUGH the wood. The peg legs are loose(they wiggle a bit when you maneuver them) HOWEVER. Wonderful"Cooper Brand" wooden cheese box/crate with it's original lid. What someone did yrs ago. Is once they opened it, they just hammered the lid back onto the bottom of the crate. I never tried to take it off due to its age. So if you so choose to try it, that will be up to the buyer. I love it just as it is, and I didn't want to damage it since it is very old. They also put this crate together upside down. Most you see are right side up for reading the front and backs, but this one the front is upside down and the back is blank due to the fact they put the wrong side out. But both of the sides are correct and still readable. I think it makes this crate more interesting and unique personally. I love cheese boxes& collect them and just have to start parting with some. This primitive utensil tote is very primitive. It has not been cleaned and is a bit grimy in the corners and crevices. The paint is chippy and green. There is a raised. Syrup or melted glue stain in the bottom of one of the compartments. An area of the handle has been broken off. the divider is in tact, but can be wiggled. the bottom shows burn marks and old, nails that appear hand made. Please see and supersize all pics. Vintage BEAVER BROOK FARM 13" Steel Milk Can!! NR!!
This vintage milk can is from a local estate. It has an overall height of 13 1/4" and is 7 3/4" wide. On the front is a brass band which reads. BEAVER BROOK FARM. Above that is a smaller brass band which reads, FILL TO ARROW POINT. This milk can has been painted red and has an eagle decal applied to the front. The handle is marked with the initials. CPM CO. This milk can has a hole drilled into the bottom and through the cork to allow lamp parts. There is another hole drilled on the back bottom rim, which will allow for the cord of the lamp to come through. CONDITION: As you can see in pic. This milk can is in Very Good Condition! Primitive Black Shelf gathering - coverlet cat - clothspins - rusty hearts
Measures about 7 x 11 inches and about 2 1/2 inches deep. I started the gathering with a small black shelf that I painted black. Attached to the shelf- a grungy coffee stained doily a cat made from a barn red coverlet. Two clothspins, a small spool of thread, two rusty tin hearts and some moss. Primitive Pineapple Bowls - crackle finish - set of 3
A set of 3 pineapple bowls. The largest one measures 10 x 4 1/2 inches. The two smaller ones measure 7 x 4 inches. I painted the bowls black.
